Title: Calathrax Iv Cities Of Death
Description: my city of death

carpediem833 - May 6, 2007 11:41 PM (GMT)
Well, here are a few of my projects I have been working on. Working on putting some working spotlight/search lights on top of some of the buildings. And once I get the actual table painted and textured, it will look loads better. But here are some of the pieces...

 WOW, nice stuff you got there.

I like the industrial complex and the rubble best.

carpediem833 - May 6, 2007 11:50 PM (GMT)
thankya ;) found out that using pieces of sheet rock, broken up, makes very convincing rubble.

carpediem833 - May 9, 2007 11:26 PM (GMT)
Hmm... anything? Would definately appreciate some C&C. need to figure out what I should do different, what might look better, etc

Have you given any thought to Flocking the base? what about making plaster spotches on the buildings?

I also suggest that you build it up around the foundation. It will make it look like it is in the ground.

carpediem833 - May 10, 2007 10:06 PM (GMT)
yeah. base "ruining" is definately in the works. just trying to work up a collection of stuff to lay around the base of the building. the sheet rock works great, but still think its missing something else...

Finally, someone does some buildings that are actually believably large.

Nice work, i might borrow some design elements of your cathedral, if you don't mind...

Ghost Fist - May 11, 2007 01:56 AM (GMT)
Very nice stuff here. Good scale, like the cathedral in particular.

My favorite thing is the "and.....rubble" building. I like the squished guardsman and the blood oozing out from under.

 Good job

go right ahead! currently working on the stained glass windows. can give you the building measurements if you would like. The windows where a little harder, but having a shop in the basement helps. Jig saws are handy. its alot harder than it looks... any ideas anyhow on stained glass?

It was a cool building before, but these CoD bits are adding some beautiful extra details and really pushing it up a level.

I'd love to fight over it!

carpediem833 - July 15, 2007 10:37 PM (GMT)
tested it last night. It was a take and hold mission. my armoured company vs my wifes eldar. her falcon grav tank dropped off her fire dragons and they reinforced their position. but my storm troopers where air dropped by my valkyrie with rappelling lines. while they where duking it out i brought up my armoured fists squads and over powered her. go little guardsmen! go! turns out she then had demolition charges that levelled it in turn 4. rather humorous scenario twist.

It was quite the battle. and it will really come into its own with snipers. the master sniper strategem combined with plunging fire is going to be NICE. its the second tallest building I have. I want to do a special scenario where it is only snipers. like enemy at the gates.

Its Been based, and next I am going to paint it. My wife, the artist, is being tasked with possibly painting a mural on the inside ceiling. possibly the emperor standing over an ork or something...

I wouls love to see so long vertical detailing on the sides (both in and out if possible)

maybe use some small detail molding from a craft store.

I bought several roman columns from Petco yesterday. going to buy some marines and paint them up like statues and glue them to the top and post them inside the church between the windows. and hack up a couple by the ruins inside the church.

Well, its been a while since I updated THIS thread. But I've been busy the past few days with a few new buildings as well as reflocking/dusting the entire city with snow (baking soda).

Wow, just wow.

I love the new top for your cathedral, it looks much better... and I like the original.

I'm a huge fan of your landing pad being 3 stories up. I looks like it's 3 building pieces up and 2 of them wide? Is that about right?

I also really like your semi-intact building the 4 across, 2 stories one. 6th picture, I think. What does the inside of that one look like?

I might steal some of your ideas, I have a pile of CoD sprue lying around. I hope my roommate doesn't mind MORE buildings, haha.

Awesome work!

user posted image you mean this one?

Marshal_Ezra - April 29, 2011 03:58 AM (GMT)
Thats the one.

Is it playable inside at all?

carpediem833 - April 29, 2011 03:48 PM (GMT)
Sorta-kinda. There is one level that's 4x1 on either side, more just for placing guys to fire out the windows. Pic to follow...

My latest creation to add a little more height dynamic to the game. These two buildings are connected by a foot bridge about 3" off the ground. Its roughly three levels high with different platforms and small details here and there...

user posted image "Follow me men!"

user posted image The top level of building 1 has a command station with different monitors. The guardsmen also setup an hasty bridge.

user posted image Building 2 is an L shape, offering a nice nook to setup an ambush

user posted image The bridge isn't quite high enough for a land raider or a leman russ, but will allow a chimera, dread, or monstrous creature through.

user posted image The bridge is two tiles wide, offering good room for model placement.
