Title: Would anyone be interested in a roleplay of sorts?
Vault - June 8, 2011 11:58 PM (GMT)
I was updating my diary and I had this idea where, if we got some people interested, I'd make a new game and spend a few years getting plenty of cash so that wouldn't be an issue. Basically each player who's in the RP would take control of a team and choose what they work on, a new game, etc. They would tell me what they wanted to do, and I'd have their team do it in the game. You can name your team whatever you want. I just think it would be neat, you could see how well your game sells against other player's and we could RP things not in the actual game, like patches, expansion packs, etc.
I haven't fleshed out the idea too well, but I just wanted to do an interest check.
If nobody wants to do it it obviously won't happen, but...
Anyone have any thoughts/ideas/suggestions? Anyone interested?

Just brief comments but,
Assuming it takes six or so years to reach the point you have enough teams the company would already be established having a few series and such. How would one fairly decide how to split up those assets?
And certain teams would be boring like who would want to be the guy who works on company knowledge all the time? Or why would anybody want to be the hardware team?
Those are issues that are easy to spot but there probably is more. It is not that it is a bad idea it just has issues.

Well not all the teams would need players, and about the hardware thing, if a team wanted to make a console they still could, that wouldn't be an issue, in the RP we would just overlook the fact that their team isn't geared for hardware.
But thanks for the feedback, glad to hear it's a decent idea, I'm gonna flesh out the ideas a little more!

I'd definitely do this, I thought of doing a community driven diary before (close to what you're describing) but never ended up doing it. Would be cool to see if its possible to run a mega publisher like EA or Activision giving your studio heads creative control in GB xD.

Nice man. Were any of your ideas different than mine? I'd love to hear them.

It was more of a diary with a yearly board room meeting where the readers could be the share holders deciding on the company's plans for the year. I like the actual role play a lot more though :D

This sounds very interesting. Hope that you can get it up and "running" :) It might spawn some ideas of how GB4 could incorperate more co-op gaming of sorts...
snam23 - June 9, 2011 12:07 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I am definitely interested.
It would also be interesting to take the idea of the board meeting and whoever is in charge of a team plan out a year or two ahead so you know what to do without wasting time.
As for the hardware, if we could patch it or something to increase the output of consoles, one team could make a computer and compete with another team that is making a console. Personally, I'd be more interested in this part but we would have to increase the output of consoles so that all consoles sold equally as possible.
Good luck on this!

So when do you think you'd start this?
Vault - June 14, 2011 12:41 AM (GMT)
Hard to say. I'm not entirely sure how I'd do it. The team thing would work, but it kinda limits the players because they could only do one thing at once. Any suggestions?

I guess everyone could get a team or two or several although if some people get multiple teams, you will need A LOT of office space and money to hire people. Also, you would need people that can lead 29 or more people for everyone to make it fair. As cool as this idea is, I think there needs to be some rules and boundaries or else it won't work.
Also, for the research team, you could either have just one and research whatever platform you think/know will be popular or you can get everyone to vote and whatever the majority chooses is the platform to research.

I want to join too.
As I'm currently unable to actually buy GB 3 (I would have to make sure that I can afford Automation), I'm looking for something that would be as good as GB III. And I think that roleplaying game about making video games led by competent GM would be good enough.

thats sound very interesing, but how about competing game ?
One player driven comppany againts another.
Game will be simply played by PBEM and/or by server side.

While I haven't been logged in for awhile, I think this is a good idea in a sense, but I also suggest a bloodline game.
Considering we can access our saves, say have players play 5 years in game each, keeping a diary, then after that send the save to the next player on the list, and just watch the hilarity.

Recently had another surge of interest in this idea, anyone still interested?

If this is still up for discussion, I'd like to have in on this!
I was thinking maybe an IRC could be set up on freenode so that we could chat with each other about certain things in the gameworld at any point of the day.

The idea is neato actually dunno how this might work out im atm observing it and might jump in a little bit later on if i can fit it into my regular scedule.
Vault - March 26, 2012 01:12 AM (GMT)
I'm still working out the kinks, it would probably be started after my current diary finishes, or once I go bankrupt, whichever first, lol, but I think I've got a couple ideas of how it could work, but any suggestions, let me know.
PvtVain - April 14, 2012 06:49 PM (GMT)
Well I could make the base save we use. But you'd have to give me like a day.
Azhrei - May 1, 2012 09:48 AM (GMT)
Would be interested, no idea how to go about it though :D

This does look interesting, but I'm not sure how to make this work. As far as I can tell, providing enough office space for decent sized teams for each participant would be a major issue as new offices are expensive, take a long time to build, and only add a few offices each. At least in my own GB games that's one of the main challenges I face.
Absenteeism from some of the participants could also be an issue.
