Introduction:
Video Game Card Clash (VGCC for short) is a card game based on Video Games. Most of the gameplay is based around Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Magic the Gathering, so if you have played those games, this may seem self explanitory. The game focuses around 8 card types. Characters (Gold), Final Characters (Black), Items (Grey), Events (Red), Traps (Blue), Stages (Grey/Brown), Spells (Green, and Music (White). There are also subtypes for a couple cards, in the way of Equipment for Items and Units for Characters. Game Basics: Your deck may have between 30 and 60 cards. You may have up to 4 copies of a single card name in your deck (This does mean that you cannot have 4 Omega cards from the Sonic set and 4 Omega cards from the Megaman set). The goal of the game is to lower your opponent's "Stock" to 0. Whenever your stock becomes 0 or less, you lose. Every time you destroy an opponent's character, he or she loses 1 stock. Each person starts with 5 stock. You destroy characters by playing items and attacking them to deal damage. There is also an alternate way to win, which is making your opponent unable to draw any cards (Also called "Decking Out"). To start the game, each player draws 5 cards. If you wish, you may 'Mulligan' and reshuffle your hand into your deck and draw 5 more cards, but you start with 1 point less on turn 1. The game is divided into 6 phases: Beggining Phase (When any effects that happen at the start of each player's turn happen), Draw Step (At each of these phases, the player whose turn it is draws a card. This phase is skipped on the first turn of the duel), Main Phase 1 (Cards can be played), Battle (You can make attacks, this phase is skipped on each player's first turn), Main Phase 2 (Cards can be played), and End Phase (Any effects that last until end of turn go away now). Whenever a card is "destroyed", it is sent to its owner's discard pile. Item, Event, Trap, and Spell cards stay in play until the effect is resolved, then it is sent to the discard pile. Combat is very simple. Characters may not attack the turn they come into play (Unless specified on the card). Each character you control may "attack" a character controlled by an opponent once per turn (Unlesss specified on the card), and the opposing character takes damage (In loss of HP) equal to the current ATK of your character. Whenever a character has taken equal to or more damage than it has HP, it is destroyed and its controller loses 1 stock. If, since the start of this turn, an opponent has no characters out, you may attack him/her directly for 1 stock loss for this turn. (Only 1 direct attack may be made per turn) There is also a cost system. At the start of each of your turns, your points are reset and you get a number of points equal to 5 + How many turns you have taken previously (For example, if this is your 5th turn, you have 9 points). On the symbol of the set, it is colored in a certain way. Black=Common, Silver=Uncommon, Gold=Rare, Purple=UR, Orange=Promo. For each common you play, it costs 1 point to play. Uncommons cost 2, Rares cost 3, UR's cost 4, and Promos cost 5. You may play any item, event, spell, or trap facedown. You may have up to 5 facedowns in play at a time. Facedowns can be turned over at any time during your turn, for its playing cost (Playing it facedown does not cost any points, although activating it does). At that time, the effect is resolved and it is sent to the discard pile. Having a card facedown does not count as playing a non-character card until it is turned over. Card Specifics: Characters. This is your primary force of damage, and without them, you can be attacked directly. You can play 1 of these cards per turn. You may only have 5 characters in play at a time. Units. Unit Characters are like Characters, except they do not count towards stock, you may play as many of these during your turn as you can, and Units do not count towards you having 5 Characters in play. Also, if you only controlled units since the start of this turn and your last unit is destroyed, you may be attacked directly. You may also have as many of a single unit as you want in your deck. Final Characters. These are played as Characters, except for 2 things. First, they cannot be brought into play by any means other than playing them from your hand. Second, there is another cost in order to play the card other than points. Read the card to find out what. Items. You can play as many of these as you can during your turn. Equipment. Equipment cards are "equipped" to a Character you control. Whenever the equipped Character is destroyed, the equipment is thus destroyed. Equipments count as a facedown when determining how many facedowns you may have in play. Events. These function in the same way as Items. Traps. These can be played facedown and turned face up when it is not your turn. Stages. Only one of these cards may be in play at a time, and the provide benefits to both players. Whenever a new stage is played, any stage currently in play (And any music) is destroyed. Spells. Spells function in the same way as items except they cost MP from your characters to play. You may only spend MP from 1 character to pay for a MP cost. Music. These act as equipment cards for stages, but do not count towards facedowns. Also, there may only be 1 Music card in play at a time. Therefore, if a new Music card is played, any old one currently in play is destroyed. Various Other Rules: Whenever a character is removed from play, its stats are reset. Abilities on cards cannot be used when it is not your turn unless it is either a trap or it is otherwise stated. Whenever a card gives +HP until a certain time, whenever the character would take damage, subtract from the excess HP. When the character reverts back to its original HP, don't subtract any that has already been damaged. (For example, say a character gets +10 HP until end of your next turn, and on your opponent's next turn, takes 5 damage. At the end of your next turn, subtract 5 HP to bring it back to normal, not 10) When a character cannot attack, you may not allow it to attack by giving it multiple attacks. (For example, Green Hill Zone does not allow Big to attack the turn it comes into play) On 'Toon Link', it mentions switching the position. This means that you switch who controls those characters.
