Some ideas/suggestions I've had so far:

Ship Inn:

approx 3/pint, student discount 10%

comfy sofas and fires

Location: Lower Park Row

Alma tavern:

Price pint? BRA discount.

off whiteladies, easy for freshers to find/get the bus to.

Robin Hood:

Price/Pint: Approx 3, 2.50 with BRA discount

Good selection real ales & ciders
lots space, usually relatively quiet

Location: St Michaels Hill

Any more ideas welcome, and let me know what you think of these ones!

I think its important to go for something not too far from Stoke Bishop to encourage freshers to turn up and get involved.

When we used to use the Ship we'd get about a dozen people a night, tops. In the Red Lion we've been averaging over 20 this year.

We need somewhere that'll encourage these people to keep coming. Conveniently located, capable of taking a decent sized group and with decent drinks at decent prices.

I fully support the Alma Tavern idea...

Though the Coach and Horses is a possibility, or did we decide that it was a bit small??

I vote for a pub crawl to work this out....

I am a fan on the Robin Hood, it's also close to uni and so good for freshers.
However, post decision making pub crawl sounds like a plan. I'll organise one for after exams :-)

It's quite far from the Stoke Bishop Halls, though.

I approve of being close to Stoke Bishop...

The coach and horses is pretty big, might be worth speaking to them as I've seen corners of it reserved before...

Robin Hood is expensive! More than 3 per pint... Nice food though
