I know Tut and Pepper probably have a drawer full of these somewhere with nearly the same photo on them... But it's my first one and I'm ready to get the next one!

CORE Colorado 200 - First Place, Sportsman Class

This was my first desert race as the new owner of KITT and my wife's first desert race experience and as you can see, we had a great time! I thought Tut was crazy, calling KITT a "small" car (it barely fit on my trailer) but when we were lined up behind the unlimited cars, we did seem small... smile.gif

Jeannine is suited up and ready for the race!

I don't have anything exciting to make a good race report... I guess that's a good thing though. The only problem we had was a kingpin snap ring coming loose (didn't seem to do any damage, I probably didn't seat it in properly) and some understeer in the gravelly spots, which I'm hoping that moving some weight forward might help. The course was a 15 mile lap and was quite fast but still interesting with lots of terrain including a wash, lots of kickers, and a pretty nasty (but short) whoop section. We ran mostly 3rd and 4th gear. There were about 18 cars entered and ranged from full on class1 (with lap times to match) to rock racers. About 5 cars per class so it made for some good racing.

I know that nobody posts much on Tut's old site anymore but I figured I'd post a last photo of KITT, but if any of you see us, feel free to come say "HI"! We are also at Little Sahara dunes in Waynoka, I know some of the minibuggy group also haunt those dunes...

Nice!!! Congrats on the win but mostly for having so much fun!

Very cool and wow... glad you had fun and only had the kingpin problem..
Hope you don't have to many problems and enjoy racing her more in the future.

Please keep us posted and again congrats!

What did Jeannine think of her first race? Hope she liked it enough to get in and do it again? And is she ready to take over and drive at the More Powder Puff this year?

Keep us posted.

Jeannine really enjoyed the race and was a great co driver. She learned the course quickly and called out the corners, reminded me of the nasty spots, where we could open up and kept reminding me to just drive and not watch the mirrors.

We raced sportsman which is only half the distance so i didnt need to stop for fuel. She got out for the last lap for a pee "pit stop" and I ran that lap myself (really need to add another horn button for when the codriver is missing!..) We are going to have to figure that out somehow. I'm not sure how the ladies handle natures calling on the long courses... My dad raced baja back in the '70s with my mom and he said they just had to stop and "check the tires" every 100 miles :-)

Jeannine drove some out at dumont but was a bit too short to be comfortable. I called mastercraft and they made us up a seat cushion that seems to work for her. We had to leave before they opened the track to the public, but she wants to drive the course if we go pre run for the July race. She raced dirt bikes and rides really well on sand and is good at picking lines so I'm hoping that transfers to dirt.

She was talking to my sister in law about the powder puff... I don't think we will make it this year because my brother is getting married the week before, but maybe now that she's excited about racing they might work something out.
