The sky shined an orange and pink color as the sun began to set on the beach. The water was a grey color as the night clouds forced to settle in. Jay watched the war between noon and night as he stood there. He was wearing some sweat shorts and no shirt. The less clothing, the more sweat. It was time to train for basketball season and he had to get back on his game.

Jackson ran around the beach with his iPod in his ear. It was cool for sundown, but this was the perfect time to exercise. He had to get in shape for basketball season. If he didn't there would be know way he would make Varsity that year. He worked his arm and leg muscles harder as he began to take longer strides. It was weird training with a slightly injured arm and knee, but he swore that he was going to make it work this year. There was a slight burning in his joints, good, that meant he was working them well. It was said that Jay was a work-a-holic, he didn't care, as long as he was in shape for basketball-his main priority- then it was no pain no gain.

Jackson took a break and sat on the beach, watching the horizon slipping away. It was beautiful and peaceful.

Blake walked around the beach, her sandals in her hand. The beach had been a comforting place for her, ever since Kayla had listened about her dad. She hadn't been judged, it was like the beach was magical. The sun was slowly setting and it was gorgeous. A lot more pretty than New York.

Surprisingly the beach was pretty empty, but then again it was nighttime. She continued her walk, splashing in the tide as it slapped lightly against her ankles. She glanced up and noticed a guy sitting on the beach. "Hey." she said, looking over at him. She had already made one good friend here, why not make another?

Jackson looked at the beautiful girl in front of him. Her lips were moving, but he couldn’t exactly hear a word she was saying. Just a light murmur. He wished he could listen to all women like this, just a dull murmur over the blasting of his earphones. But he didn’t know this girl and hell, he decided he would be nice to a stranger. He took out his headphones and cut off his iPod, flashing the girl a smile as he looked down to put it up.
”I apologize. I didn’t hear a word you just said.” She offered a hand forward as he grabbed hers firmly and shook it. ” I’m Jackson Jeremiah. You look familiar. Do you go to the university or something?” He said, keeping his handshake to a minimum and retreated from the grip, since his shoulder was aching and he didn’t want to risk anything.
”You’re welcome to sit if you want.” he said, wiping some sand away from a the spot next to him. ”I mean, I can only tidy up so much, the sand just doesn’t go away. I might need to call somebody about that.” He joked as he looked back up at her, a spark coming into a mind on who she really was. ”The album cover….what was it. It was so awesome. But you were on it….your Elliot Smith’s daughter, right? Yeah, I’m okay with his music, but it’s not really my genre. No offense.” There he was again, giving his honest opinion when it wasn’t asked.

"I'm Blake," she replied. She sat down next to him, smiling softly. She nodded her head, not really offended that he didn't like her dad's music. He didn't look like the type of person who would listen to that type of music anyways. "Yeah, that's me. Blake Smith."

She looked out at the water, and the colors in the sky. "So what type of music do you listen to? Let me guess...rap, hip hop, maybe some R&B?" Blake asked, looking over at him.

Jackson felt a cool breeze go past him as he watched the sky continue in it’s battle between light and dark. He thought about the kinds of music that intrigued him. ”I don’t know. I’m into all kinds. But I don’t know about some pretentious music where people pretend to be more hardcore than they actually are.” He said, offering his opinion. ”Not that I’m saying that was what your dad did, but all the wannabes after him tend to.” He shrugged off his comment and turned his attention to the waves, for one A.D.D. moment, he pictured himself swimming, but then he was brought back to reality by the woman next to him.
”I think I like a little Techno though, or Underground sort of alt/r&b sort of thing. Anything with intense beats. The pulse amps me during training. He felt another cold breeze and instinctively took off his jacket to offer it to her.

Blake was about to respond when he corrected himself. "My dad never pretended to be something he wasn't, but I agree. It seems like every singer these days try to be like someone else. Except for me of course." she told him. Her dad was nothing like that. He had been himself, that was it. "Training? What sport?" she asked.

She smiled gratefully at him and accepted the jacket, sliding it over her shoulders. It was really warm and comfortable.

He appreciated the fact that she decided to take his jacket. It made him feel a little better that he made someone feel good. He was surprised when she asked what he did. Most people in Hawaii knew what he was capable of and came to most of the games. He couldn‘t blame them, though. The only reason they came was because Jackson was bringing a funding money and a good name in basketball to Hawaii.
”I play B-ball at the University.” He said to her as he took a moment to stretch his arms, since they were sore from the workout. ” With me on the team, we’re a shoe in for Div. 1 finals, something Hawaii has never seen. The main things that come out of here are surfers. I‘m glad to make milestones.” he was being honest, it was weird that people looked at Basketball as being foreign, which was oblivious to him. ”But I‘m glad that I can make a name for myself out here. Your dad seemed cool and let you follow your passions. My dad is a big shot lawyer out there and the only way I could even think about basketball is if I double major in Business Management and Finance.” He said, stating the words as if were painful.

She nodded her head, a little surprised. She didn't know there were star basketball players in Hawaii. "Your dad sounds a lot like my mom." she said. "I hate how most parents don't believe in their kids. It's either that, or they want their kids to be a younger version of themselves." Blake added, slight disgust in her voice.

In a way she resented her mom. If her parents hadn't been arguing over the whole music business, maybe her dad would still be alive. "So do you plan on going pro?"

Jackson ran a hand through his air as he felt another cool wind go by. It was almost dark now and that was signified by the sudden pop of electricity that went through the air. He turned his head slightly to see that all of the pier lights had turned on, leaving a white soft glow hanging in the mist.
"My dad would like me to go pro." he started, tilting his head a bit, "Don't get me wrong, I'd like to go pro, too. Maybe even making Hawaii known for it's surfing, that would be awesome. Or even try to get into the Chicago Bulls." He listened to himself list all of his father's wants for him. It was a little sad. "But I know my dad would want me to do basketball and be the CEO of a Fortune 500 company. Maybe even help him with his law firm. he smirked. "But the only way I'd ever want to be apart of law is if I was ever arrested." He knew that would never happen. Because the second Jackson got in trouble his father was two steps ahead of him paying off whoever he could to get his beloved son out of jail.
"I guess I'm his hope, my dad's. There's only me and my twin bro and my twin is the one he likes to keep locked in the back room." He shrugged. His brother was always the goof off and sometimes, he wished his dad would care less about him than he did his look alike.
