I've seen only one video of this title and it looks cool but in an interview with Tom's Hardware some time ago, Lucasarts mentioned that this game won't be released on the PC due to some technical deficiencies compared to the XBox 360, which I find hard to believe. P.S. And why is this game under the adventure section? Isn't it more appropriate as an action game?

Given that their stated theme for the game is "Kicking someone's ass with the force." you're probably right.
I love that they are releasing this game on the wii... exclusive duel mode, oh gods...

The release date has been confirmed. It's September 2008. A few titbits from the article: First it was coming in November 2007, then it was pushed back to the second quarter of 2008, but now it looks like the highly anticipated new chapter in the Star Wars game library will finally be gracing store shelves this September.
In an almost simultaneous worldwide launch, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be coming to North America on September 16, Southeast Asia and Australia on September 17, and Europe on September 19.And it is, as usual, for the consoles: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is coming to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Wii, DS, and PlayStation Portable.

I know this news bit came out ages ago but I'd just want to post it anyway to give you an idea why it ain't coming to the PC. Excerpt below: | QUOTE | VideoGamer.com: Force Unleashed is coming to every platform going, except...
Cameron Suey: No Commodore 64, no Apple IIE...
VideoGamer.com: No PC...
Cameron Suey: No PC as well, yes.
VideoGamer.com: We're a multiplatform website and some of our PC-owning readers have complained about this.
Cameron Suey: And that's something that every time I read that, we do hear that complaint, it hurts. Our goal was we wanted to get this game to as many people as possible. I definitely wish it had been possible. However the PC being the gaming platform that it is, someone with a $4,000 high-end system would definitely be able to play the Euphoria, the DMM and really technical elements of the game. But someone with a low-end PC would have a watered down experience, they would have to turn all the settings down and it wouldn't be the same game. On the other hand if we made that game for as many people as possible, because we are trying to make mass market games, something that everybody can enjoy, well then it's not taking advantage of what those $4,000 systems can do. So one way or the other depending on how you build that lead PC SKU, it's not going to be for the same amount of people, it's going to be not as good or only for a select few people.
That said we're definitely not out of the PC market. It's just with our choice for this game, with the known quantity for the consoles, and every console is the same with the same processing power, it made sense for us to develop for those consoles. |
I know I mentioned that Tom's Hardware did have an interview about this before but I lost that article. Have to make do with this one instead.

Since Lucasarts can scale down the game for the PS2 and the handheld platforms, I don't see how it is impossible for them to do the same thing when it comes to lower-spec PCs. More like it's business driven than incompatibility issues, since they can sell a lot more on the consoles than the PC platform itself.

Time to trash this game.
Button masher. All the hype, undeserved, as pretty much you'd expect. It's one linear timeline, so no KotOR-like light/dark battle, no real interactions with people where you make choices, which we probably knew. The powers the character gets, overrated. For some reason, which is totally unexplained in the game, my character falls in love with his pilot, despite the fact that they show very little interaction. So how that develops is a complete mystery. And the databank on his personal ship talks about Bail Organa, and it specifically calls Leia the daughter of Anakin Skywalker. No one's supposed to know that, certainly not Vader's apprentice. And you fight on the unfinished first Death Star, where the planet-destroying laser is always firing (walking the halls, every couple minutes, a laser would fire in the corridor, but during the final battle you can see in the background the superlaser is just constantly firing). That's just stupid; what exactly is it firing for? I could buy the idea they were testing it, but not like that. Took me around 12 hours to finish the game.
Crappy review, but I don't feel like being all proper and making some spiffy one. Is it worth buying? I didn't think so.
