Hiko shrugged. "At times," he said lightly. He lifted the sword to his lap and absently ran his fingers along the designs, soaking in the memories. "Why, do you?"

--------------------
Along the staircase,
I dream to hear you,
In a whisper quiet room,
Space for thinking,
Space to scream to,
But the echoes sound like you,
Not the stars at night,
In a pitch black sky,
I don't know just wants to see you
But the time is right and it only flies

This could be, this could be the last time

Layla couldn't help but feel a slight warmness creep to her cheeks. She looked back around the room again.
"Actually, yeah," she replied. "Or I used to. I can't do as much as I could." A slight distant look clouded her eyes, but quicky vanished when she blinked only seconds later.
"Er..." Great, the shyness was kicking in now. "What all do you do? I mean, if you do any of that stuff at all."

"Well, I have learned many types, including karate, kung fu, some kendo, and... oh, and ninjutsu. There are many more areas I have studied, but those are the ones I practice most." He shifted and took another drink from his water.

She nodded.
"Interesting," Layla murmured, pulling a knee up to herself. She wrapped her arms around it and settled her chin on top. "How long have you lived here?"

"Only a month," he said, glancing at the boxes. "I am originally from Japan."

Layla nodded again. She then looked to the ceiling, thought crossing her face yet again. How many places had she lived in? It was hard to remember, but she couldn't remember much of her past anyways. It was always difficult.

Hiko pushed up the sleeve of his leather jacket and glanced at his watch. It read 9:47. "Your... dorms, where you're staying, they don't impose any kind of curfew do they?" he asked.

A mischievious smile crept upon Layla's lips.
"Oh, they do," she said casually. "I just know about four other ways besides the front and back doors to get in." Layla slowly stood and flexed her fingers a few times.
"I should probably get going anyways, though. Thanks for the ride and.." She then shook her head. "Nevermind. Just thanks."

"Anytime," Hiko said quietly. He stood and ran a hand through his hair. "I should probably give you a ride back," he said, placing the katana carefully on the couch. "In case anything- well I don't know why, but it would be a good idea."

Layla hid a smirk and headed outside, looking around at all the buildings. Sometimes she really felt a rather large dislike towards the city. Things were too crowded and the air was too stuffy for her liking. But that was just her. Layla had always prefered a place that was quiet and didn't have alot going on here and there.

Hiko took Layla back to her "academy", not saying much along the way. He slowly pulled up to the entrance and turned his bike off. "Well, here we are," he said, his face reserved. "Helmet." He glanced around at the deserted streets; something felt wrong.

Layla took the helmet it off and handed it to him, placing a handon his shoulder lightly as she swung her leg over the bike.
"Thanks," she replied, looking about the parking lot. She made a face and slowly began to take off her gloves, tucking them into her back pocket of her jeans. Something, indeed, didn't feel right. Layla began to make her way across the parking lot, glancing up at the dorm windows. In one, there was a dim light on. She had always left it on, not liking the feeling of coming home to a pitch dark room alot of the times.

Hiko lowered his voice, though he wasn't sure why. "I'll wait here, until you're inside," he said, his keen eyes scanning the darkness around them. Gathering his energy, he pushed some of it away so there was a clearer path leading up to the building.

Layla nodded.
"Thanks..." she said awkwardly. She wasn't exactly used to people "looking out for her". She was used to taking care of herself and that was about it.

Following the path Hiko had made for her, Layla made her way to the side of the dark building, looking up at the many windows - some of which were illuminated. She walked to the front door and slowly opened it, allowing it to close behind her once she had walked through.

Nodding to himself, Hiko quietly pulled away. He stopped in front of his apartment and slowly climbed off his bike, and clipped the helmet to the back.

"Hiko..." A silvery voice whispered from behind him.

He tensed and swung around. "Who is there?" he said, his voice soft but commanding.

Slowly, a girl appeared in front of him. Although there was no moonlight, she glowed slightly, her long blonde hair cascading over her thin form. A thin smile curved her lips. "My old... friend," she said.

"Aveena?" Hiko asked incredulously.

She didn't respond. The answer was obvious enough. "Let us go inside," she said, and glided past him as if she knew exactly where to go.
