James let out a short 'ha!'
"I could pass my NEWTS without Lily" he inofrmed her, "easily" he added. Mostly just to impress on her that he was smart and clever and intelligent, despite what she seemed to think. Not that he really cared about his grades. In the grand scale of things for James Potter to give a rats about, they were not high up. Leaving a legacy of a different sort in the school ranked high up there, not to mention Quidditch and just plain ol having fun.

James raised his eyebrows a touch at the querie, and as she continued on a little bit he took the time to think of a responce other than 'I was a big loner', or 'my friends ditched me'. He grinned slightly as she finished with a mention to Lily.
"Ah, if only" he said wistfully, artfully avoiding the actual question.

"It's only a burden to those who don't have it" James said, feeling rather wise as he said it.
"Well, it's seventh year, and The Marauders aren't old news yet" James pointed out.
"Almost seven long years of being the most exciting thing in this school" he said, tipping his chin up as his voice took on a familiar boastful tone.

"mhmm." Was all Issy said, continuing in her book. Her finger turned the page and the silence continued. The wind blew by them, birds twittered, and in the distance splashing could be heard by the children playing in the Black Lake with the Giant Squid. All of the sudden, Issy put her book shut on her lap and looked at him. "I..um...could I ask you about something. Your a guy so you may be able to help...what do you guys think about all the time? What occupies your mind?"

"You want Lily to put a collar around your neck and leash you? I thought marauders wanted to be free to do as they please?" Issy asked, raising an eyebrow in response to his. "I suppose Lily also kicked you out of the castle, and that's why your out here."

"Until now, most girls are giggling over some other boys now. You're little fan clubs are starting to dissipate." Isabella said, smirking. "I fear that already one month and going on two have almost put the marauders at the back of everyone's mind other than to wonder what ever happened to them. Did they lose their passion, did they grow up, are they really just dead and now impostors are in their place?"

James fidgeted in the silence, not liking the sound of her 'mhmm.'
"Huh" he grunted softly, though barely making a dent in the silence. He looked around, leaning just a little to the side to watch the younger students and the Squid. He smiled slightly to himself, recalling many a time where that Squid had helped in the destruction of homework. Mostly Snape's.
"Huh?" James said, louder this time, as he caught the tail end of her question. He had heard it, it just took a moment to process. The question had caught him off guard; he hadn't been expecting it. He shrugged his shoulders.
"I dunno" he answered dumbly, while wishing that he had kept his mouth shut just a few moments longer.
"Girls. Quidditch. Pranks" he summed up, rubbing his chin slightly and thinking that about covered the basics.

"Kinky and whipped are two very different things" James informed her matter of factly.
"And she did not kick me out" he added, with a haughty 'huh', as if the very idea was laughable.
"No one kicks James Potter out of anything" he went on, pausing before just explaining properly.
"She's in hiding. Probably hiding in the dankest, dustiest corner of the library she can find" James said, wrinkling his nose, and tugging a nearby leaf viciously off of its stem. He would have gone after her, he was going to. He had made a mental plan of attack, and searching the grounds had appealed to him more than the library.

"Never" James said, dismissing the thought that their fan clubs were breaking up. Just because they weren't as active as ever in the pranks department. James knew he was still just as much of a star in Quidditch. Not to mention they were still good looking. Well, maybe not quite Peter, but James felt that he certainly was.
"Our absence has got just as many rumours as when we were active" James said, "we're too big to be forgotten in just a month" he continued with a smile, and a touch of what looked like determination in his eyes. He wanted, The Marauders wanted, to leave a legacy long after they were gone. Perhaps just one final statement. Something big, real big. James didn't like the order of just being forgotten, and he wasn't about to let that happen.
"Dead huh? I like that one. Haven't heard it before" he said lightly, chuckling to himself.

Isabella laughed to herself. "Great, like I hadn't thought of that myself. Perhaps this is useless..." She shook her head and looked over at the castle. "Tell me, why do you like Lily?" She asked suddenly, curious as anyone else for the reason. She cared about her academic scores, he couldn't care less. She hated his guts, he proclaimed to love her. She hates the pranks he did, he thoroughly enjoyed them. She's spurned him for years, he's still trying.

Isabella chuckled and shook her head. "So you want Lily to be kinky with you??" She was nearly in a fit of laughter as she finished, her voice now light with amusement. "James Potter wants to be tied up.... wait till all of Hogwarts hears that.

"Actually, I think I heard that Lily was 'hiding' in the Potion's classroom doing some tutoring. Or maybe she's just working on perfecting an advanced potion she came across. I heard both stories on my way out here. You'd be surprised about what you hear when your popularity level is so low." Isabella smiled, her face toward the lake.

"Never say never James Potter, because then for certain it will happen." Isabella warned. There were so many cases where someone said they would never do this, this would never happen, and indeed it did. Poor James, he didn't know the consequences of his actions did he?

"Now James Potter wants to be dead, great. I'm sure Lily will be delighted. I'm sure if you tie a large rock to your ankle then have someone fling both of you into the middle of the Black Lake your wish will come true." Isabella said, using dry humor. "People have been forgotten in much less time that one month, remember that."

"This 20 questions or something?" James said, wrinkling his nose at the second question to do with the inner workings of his mind. He shrugged.
"I dunno. I just do" he answered, shrugging his shoulders. He realised it was a stupid and useless answer. He knew what he felt, he just couldn't explain it.

"I want Lily to be anythin with me" James said, watching the girl on the verge of laughter. He grinned his usual haughty grin.
"Any girl in this school would give their right leg to be kinky with me" James said playfully, "go on, spread that rumour. It'll be fun" he said, raising his eyebrows suggestively.

"Seriously?" James said, straightenign up slightly and leaning in a touch towards Isabella, with an expression of earnest eagerness on his face. James looked back towards the castle, glad that he knew where she was. He could go surprise her.

"That's a stupid saying" James said, and cleared his throat, about to prove it.
"Lily Evans will never race outside this second and proclaim her undieing love for me, James Potter" he announced, then paused for effect, and made a show of looking around, and sighing heavily as he turned back to Isabella.

James snorted.
"Why would I want to be dead? Just saying it's a cool rumour to have around" he said.
"And if there are rumours, then no one has forgotten us" he added, "simple as that" he finished on a decisive note.

"No wonder Lily thinks it's just an infatuation." Issy said, rolling her eyes at his answer. "I'm simply curious, as the rest of the school, James. She's books, your looks. She's a rule upholder and your a rule breaker. She has a love of educational knowledge, you couldn't care less. She likes you help people, you like to hex people. You hex her old best friend, do you call that loving her? Love is being unselfish and making sure SHE'S happy no matter what, do you know nothing of love?"

Isabella raised an eyebrow. "I'm beginning to understand Lily more and more." She stated dryly. She knew all about kinkiness, sadly. "Let me guess, you also like pink furry handcuffs." She added, just as dryly as before. "Poor Lily."

"Yeah, umm seriously."She rolled her eyes. "I believe she's working on some sleeping drought or even antidotes on some poisons." She leaned back as he leaned in,. "Also, might want to grab a mint before you go down there." She made a face. "Your breath smells."

Isabella laughed out loud at his proclamation. "Perhaps she will in about thirty years or so when you dead and she finally realizes what she lost. Doesn't mean something will happen immediately." She shook his head. "That would certainly be a site to see though."

"Rumor becomes legend, legend becomes myth, myth becomes unknown." She said, quoting a book she had read recently. Fellowship of the Ring was fiction, but also inspiring. "Better to have different kind of rumors, if you think about it.".

""It's not like I said it was because she's hot. Which she is, but that's beside the point" James said, "it's more than an infatuation" he stated firmly.
"Opposites attract" James murmured intrusively, halfway through her speech on the differences between Lily and himself.
"Snivellus is a git. The whole school knows that. He didn't even deserve Lily's attention" James snapped, a sudden agressive tone appearing in his voice.
"That's love from those crappy romantic books that all you girls seem to read. You know just as little about it as I do" James said cooly.

"Red" James corrected with a grin, "they'd go better with her hair" he said, and laughed.

James recoiled slightly, offended.
"It does not" he protested, refusing all instinct to check it for himself. Sleeping droughts and antidotes for potions didn't sound too dangerous. His eyes flickered towards the castle, smiling slightly.

"Doesn't count. I specifically said 'right now'" James said, "and in thirty years we won't be at Hogwarts" he added.

"Not necessarily. We still hear about myths. And they've still got trophies way back when this school got started" James said, "not everything disapears from the face of the earth. You're just being all pissy and pessimistic about it, because you know you don't have a chance of your name hanging around, whereas mine at least has a very good chance of sticking around" he said, grinning triumphantly. He turned to her, frowning slightly, "what d'you mean, different type of rumours?" he asked.

Isabella rolled her eyes at James. "Then trying showing it a different way. Instead of using your ways to try and impress her, ask her what you can do to prove it. If you love someone enough, you'll do anything, right?"She hoped so. "Lily is a mature student, and she considers what you do childish. Show her how to balance the two. There are times to have fun and let loose, but also times to be serious."

Issy laughed. "Only at times. Think about it, would an ant and a anteater ever get along. Sometimes a compromise must be in order. Teach Lily, slowly, how to have fun. Her mind works differently than yours, so try and make it so she understands exactly what you say. What you say and what you mean can be two different things." She put a hand on James' shoulder. "You can do it. Isn't the famous James Potter supposed to be able to do anything?" She smiled softly and squeezed slightly on his shoulder before sitting back and looking up into the tree.

"If Lily wants to be a teacher, she will. Besides, that was just an example. No twisting my words around" Isabella watched James wearily. "Acting just like a Slytherin, you are" Sighing, she repositioned herself to be more comfortable in the tree.

"Lily didn't think that, perhaps she saw something you didn't. You don't think about that do you? He was her friend before she even came to Hogwarts, and it's rumor that Severus has a tough life at home. Don't be judgmental. I suppose you were just jealous..." Isabella sighed. He was being jealous in her opinion. It also wasn't rumor about what she heard about Severus. Lily had brought it up to him some years ago and Isabella had...overheard.

"I could be mature if I wanted" James said cooly, with a light shrug. His expression was only mildly thoughtful as he listened to what she said. He rolled his eyes when she laughed at his colour choices. If it was the same colour it matched, that was good enough for him.

"Whatever" he said quickly and dismissively, waving a flippant hand.
"Lily stubbornly refuses fun at any turn" James grumbled, eyes flickering across to her hand on his shoulder. He grinned slightly.
"Right" he agreed with her, smile widening as he leant back, arms cross loosely over his chest, "even you can't keep your hands off of me" he teased.

"I am not!" James protested, taking offence at being called, of all things, a Slytherin, and flaring up quickly.

He flounced back just as quickly, arms returning to being cross over his chest but more moodily.
"Huh" he grunted, rolling his eyes again at Isabella's mention of a potential sob story for Snivellus.
"James Potter is jealous of no one" he said, "especially not that slimeball on legs" he said.

"Then do it. I do believe that many people would spend money to see you be mature. It's unfathomable. Something that would almost never happen. You have a reputation against maturity. " Issy said, closing her eyes and trying to imagine James being mature. It was hard, but she could just barely do it.

"Lily's kind of fun is different than yours. She doesn't want detention or anything to hurt her record so she can get a good job. She already has marks against her for just being who she is. With the war about to start, being a muggle born will prevent you from getting a good job. Everything will refuse you, even if you have an excellent record. She'll need to make money as well. She doesn't have any magical background at all, so it'll be a little rough for her." Isabella tried to explain. "Perhaps if you did something for fun that wouldn't land anyone in trouble she would join in. Even if it's to make sure you don't have something up your sleeve."

Issy glared at him as he spoke about her. "You don't know anything about me, James Potter. Don't make assumptions just to boost your male ego. I was trying to be a friend, not flirt with you while giving you tips on how to win another girl." She glared one last time at him before closing her eyes and laying her head back against the tree trunk.

Isabella smiled. "First sign of Jealousy. Denial." She grinned at him. "He was close to Lily, perhaps new all her secrets and all you get is insults? She cared for him, yet she would hex you off this world . Doesn't sound fair, doesn't James?"

"Yes, but mature is also boring. People will be disapointed that they spent their money to get boring. James Potter being boring is unfathomable. I have a reputation against boring" James said, re-using her words as if correcting her. In his opinion, the words 'maturity' and 'boring' were practically interchangeable.

"I don't want detention either" James said, muttering it over what Isabella was saying, but then staying quiet and listening patiently for a moment as she continued. He shrugged in responce, pretending to be considering this information seriously.
"True I guess, but she's going to have me remember?" he added, flashing his confident grin, "and I will be excellent at uh, what do the muggles call it?" James said, frowning for a moment, "bringing home the ham?" James nodded, thinking that was close enough, but deciding to stay away from muggle sayings.
"I will provide for her" he said simply.

He sighed.
"The trouble with that is that we don't know if it's gonna land us in trouble when we start" he said. Though, to be completely truthful, this 'fact' was based more on how good their escape plan was.

"Fine, fine" James said, rolling his eyes and pausing before he continued.
"I'm just not used to having girls not flirt with me" he said, his cheeky smile returning.

James frowned slightly as he listened to her. He snorted his contempt at the idea and shook his head slowly, silently telling her she had it wrong, all wrong. Although, in truth she had hit the nail on the head. Snivellus didn't deserve any of Lily's attention, he never had. He had proved that in fifth year.

"You've never given it a chance though, have you? I do agree, sometimes it can be boring but other times.... maturity can go a long way." Issy replied, shrugging her shoulders and looking up to try and see through the leaves and branches. "James," Issy said, shaking her head. "You're lucky enough not to have to worry about what you're record will look like. As long as you get through Hogwarts and take the right classes, you can get what ever job you like."

"Yes, but you don't care do you? AS I said, you don't have to worry about it." Issy hopped down and brushed the dirt and leaves off her clothes. "Another detention or two won't hurt you will it?" Issy looked up at him with a raised eyebrow.

"Lily's independent. Even if by some miracle she agreed to be with you, she would want to do this on her own. Be hired because she earned it, not because who's she's with." Issy looked up at James quite confused as she spoke about ham. "What does ham have to do with anything?"

"Does Lily seem like the type to let someone take care of her? She's not a woman who would stay at home while she could be outside doing something important to help the world. She's not just going to let you provide for her." Issy replied to James, then pulling her bag down from the tree.

"Really? I would have thought with going on seven years of rejection you would be used to it." Issy smirked and leaned against the tree. "Besides, I just have a lot on my mind, and I know your pinning for Lily so what reason would I have for flirting with you? I'm smarter than that."

James shrugged.
"So what? When I think I need it I'll use it" he said, "haven't found a reason to be mature yet." He wrinkled his nose slightly.
"That's hardly my fault" James said, not feeling like his own good fortune should be held against him. Though he did agree that it sucked it wasn't the same for everyone else. He knew it was something Remus worried about, being a werewolf, it was natural for potential employers to be hesitant about him.

"Or three or four" James added nonchalantly, with a soft but smug smile to show that he did not care at all.

"I dunno... Muggles say it" James said, shrugging casually and dismissing the idea with a wave of his hand. He moved on before she had time to realise he didn't have a clue what he was talking about.

"Fine. So maybe she doesn't want to be provided for" James said, "I'm just saying that I'd look after her. Y'know, whatever happens and stuff" James said.

"It's not seven years yet" James responded back. He shrugged again.
"I dunno. My irresistable charm?" he said in a lazy tone.

Issy sighed and smiled at James. "Mmmhmmm. What ever you say, James. I have some classes to get to though. " Perhaps he would learn someday. about how to properly woo a lass. That is, if he was lucky.. Things never turned out the way people think they will, so in essence, anything could happen at any time. For his sake, she hoped Lily would give in and save James the heart ache. After going on seven years, Lily should know that it was something more than what she thinks. Something more than normal. Even a crush leaves after so much denial.

Isabella Brown waved at a Mr. James Potter. "I wish you luck. I'm sure you'll need it, right?" She grinned and turned on her heels. Keeping the straps of her bag on her shoulder, she walked forward away from the tree. A moment later, she turned around. "By the way, a reason to be mature. That's the kind of guy I suspect Lily wants to date." She grinned wider and turned around as she began to run to the castle. She was definitely going to be late for her class.
