Just a thought ,could someone confirm?

Should a unit fire upon a hydra and keepers, the hits are randomized as per any other skirmishing beast with handlers....

The hits are `lucky` and hit the packmasters, and say 1 dies!!!

Does the unit test for panic as per the main rulebook , as it has now LOST 25% of its MODELS? cool.gif

You are wrong and here is why you are wrong:

You should know that any shooting attacks aimed at this unit and randomly allocated are always resolved against the hydra.

should have known right enough that the poxy DE book would have some `clause` to overrule this premise, strange that the lizzie book doesn`t have it (or does it?).....

I thought the idea of giving the unit the abilities to skirmish, and move through woods would have negated the need for such a rule implement, it would have been harder to hit anyway!, now your struggling to wound it!

shame really it would have balanced the hydra abit better (well the druchii players would have dropped it again pretty quick as a waste of points! rolleyes.gif )

Lets hope they instigate the same rule for the skaven book, as this was one of the main gripes for the loss of rat ogre units to shooting....
lose a handler or 2+ld 5 = Unit gone!
(guess what I was reading when I put this post up)

but overall I assume I was correct in the case of beasts and handlers without this queer Dark Elf Ruling?

I'd agree with you on this so I can see why units like rat ogres aren't used very much.

It will of course panic if template weapons or any missiles (magic or otherwise) which can target any model kill a handler. The Dark Elf Hydra has had the rule which stops randomising for a while though, it was in the last book too.

Also, the Hydra isn't harder to hit. It doesn't count as a skirmishing unit for the purposes of shooting, only movement.

blink.gif

so does it have the skirmish rule or not, and if not then it also has facings to charge/shoot or otherwise like any other monster?

Surely GW haven`t created a rule for something, that allows you to basically pick and choose the best bits and ignore the worst, imagine if they did it with frenzy for example blink.gif

The last page of the monsters section in the rulebook details the behaviour on monster and handlers. I suggest you look at that.

Suffice to say that you treat it as a skirmisher for purposes of movement and as a single monster (ignore the handlers) when it is charging or being charged.

Simples.

...and if you want to kill the Handlers?

Any spell which allows you to target a single model e.g. Rule of Burning Iron
Hunter's Talon
Paegent of Shrikes

Probably more stuff but that was just off the top of my head.
