Shortfic Exercises, entries between 100 and 500 words

This is going to be an ongoing series of challenges. Each challenge will usually be based on a prompt from an outside source, but I will give credit to that source. I'll probably be using Caer Awen's prompts most of all, so I'd suggest that if you're an LJ user and you enter a challenge that uses one of their prompts, you should feel free to post it at the community as well. Entries must be PMed to me; you should not post here. I will post the winning entries as replies to this post.
To start off, there'll be no deadline until I have at least three people willing to enter. Once the challenge becomes pretty regular, I'll give regular deadlines.
This is meant to be a pretty relaxing challenge since the only guidelines will be in the prompt used (which you can interpret however you see fit), the length of the entry (100-500 words), and that it must be prose (meaning no poetry).
So, without further ado:
