 Organization Update
Posted by Kherezae - 08-24-07 05:03 - 1 comments
I just split the Writing Clinic into two separate forums. The subforums inside the Clinic were starting to take over the world and I wanted to add more, so I split it to make it more organized. Now we have:

Writing Clinic: Inspiration
For writing ideas, planning, tips, tricks, guides... everything leading up to the writing itself. Challenges and exercises are found here, as well, because they are meant to test your skill and improve you.

Writing Clinic: Editing
For revision, reviews, and concrit. This is where your writing goes when you're ready to attack it, tear it apart, and put it back together in a better form. It's very important in this forum to include the genre of your piece in its topic description to help other members decide what to review.

With this new arrangement, I'm going to start enforcing the difference between the Clinic and the Gallery. If your piece is mostly done and you're just looking for general feedback and advice, it belongs in the Gallery. If you already know your piece is going to be greatly revised and you're looking for concrit and tips on what needs improvement when you go through editing, it belongs in the Editing Clinic. I'm moving a couple pieces, but I will PM you to let you know if I've moved yours.

It's coming up on the end of the month, just a handful of days left! I'll be moving into the dorms (technically) tomorrow (I haven't gone to sleep yet, but it's past midnight, so Saturday counts as tomorrow right?). I won't have hours daily to devote to this site, but I'll still have plenty of time, so you shouldn't expect much change except that I'll have less time to waste fruitlessly advertising. I've been trying to continually add content to give everyone something to reply to, something to do, but I can't do everything. I'm hoping you guys will enter challenges and respond to exercises. And start your own! I'd love to do some myself, but I can't very well enter my own challenges! =P

Also, as a special note, the zine Alicia and rhinovirus (Rebecca) have been planning has hit a major milestone -- it has a name! So I'm sure that it will quickly pick up speed in its creation, and hopefully it will premiere soon.

 Awards & Other News
Posted by Kherezae - 08-20-07 02:47 - 0 comments
The deadline for the signature challenge is tomorrow, but since there have been no entries, I'm going to be moving it to the Challenge subforum in the Writing Clinic and temporarily removing the deadline. View the thread here for more information.

At the end of the month or after a challenge is completed -- whichever comes first -- we will be creating a new forum for Synergetic awards. Every month we will have a member of the month who will have a 'trophy' posted in the awards forum, along with any information and shameless self-promotion they desire. Winners of staff-issued challenges will also have a 'trophy' posted in the awards forum, along with their winning piece (or a link to it) and a brief personal snippet (again including any shameless self-promotion they desire).

Thanks for all the activity, guys! I love reading your writing and looking at your photography, and I'm looking forward to more! Keep posting, guys.

 New: the Writing Clinic
Posted by Kherezae - 08-15-07 02:16 - 0 comments
After looking at the results to the poll I put up in Synergism, I spent today putting together the Writing Clinic, and it is now officially open. As of right now there is only one guide posted; I wanted to have at least one up, so I wrote one out today. I am also the only reviewer.

Poke around in the Writing Clinic and see what there is to see. =) If you want to be a reviewer, let me know here. Feel free to submit a guide, or just jump right into discussion about plot, character, and world building problems.

edit The world, plot, and character development subforums of the Clinic have just been made members-only, as well as the review subforums; no guests can view them.

 Updates 08.11.2007
Posted by Kherezae - 08-11-07 20:36 - 0 comments
I've got a few updates, so I'm condensing them all into one post.

First, of course, is the challenge also posted in the news: the Synergism in Rivalry. It also should have been PMed to everyone. I'm looking forward to reading entries, and I hope everyone will participate!

Also, I updated the Rules just to clarify some confusion about the Synergism forum. The new rule just encourages members to create a new thread when none of the existing threads address their ideas.

Finally, just a reminder to respond to the threads in the Synergism forum with any ideas you have. I just edited the Writing and Art Clinics thread, but simple edits don't bump threads the way new posts do.

Thanks, everyone! I really appreciate the posting you guys have been doing, and I especially enjoy the artwork that has been posted. I'm going to try to do some more advertising to get some more people around the site. I've already been warned on one site and told off on another, but I'm trying =P

 Grand Opening!
Posted by Kherezae - 08-7-07 18:41 - 0 comments
Alright, time for me to go start advertising! I've tried to put up enough site content to give people something to respond to once they join the site, but the real fun won't begin until members start posting their own thoughts and work. So join, add your unique voice to the site!

And new members, please, your advertising would be welcome! I'll be doing most of my advertising on livejournal, I think. Maybe some on neopets, but it's harder to find people above a third grade reading level there most of the time. There are some great people there, they're just few and far between.

For anyone else who wants to advertise in their livejournal, feel free to use this code:

HTML
<center><table bgcolor=#cb771f width=450><tr><td cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0><a href=http://z11.invisionfree.com/Synergetic><img src=http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb277/synergeticart/adban.jpg border=0></a></td></tr><tr><td spacing=3 padding=3 bgcolor=#1b5da9><div style="text-align:justify"><font size=1 face=verdana color=#ffffff>Synergetic is a highly cooperative site for artists of all types: writers, photographers, painters, and more. The site was made to be very basic with the intention that the members and administrators would work together to expand and improve it. It will take the help and ideas of everyone to bring out the full potential of the site.

The purpose of Synergetic is for artists to have a place not only to share their work, but also to get the opinions of others and advice and challenges to help them improve. The ultimate goal is a community where all types of artists can find people to appreciate their art, guides to help them improve, and challenges to stretch their skills to their limits.

To take a look, just click on the Synergetic banner. Browse the site, see what you think. Just remember, we need new members with new ideas to help build the best site possible. We'd love to have you.</div></td></tr></table></center>

That code should result in this ad.
