"Ah, a beautiful day in the neighborhood, as usual." The headmaster of the school, Dr. Kilroy Mefistus Churchill IV, stood by the window, staring out of it and watching the people in the marketplace from afar. Of course, the only thing he saw from this distance was the mass of movement and not much more, but he could pick out a race of person here and there through the pipe smoke that seemed to consistantly inhabit it. Turning away from the window with a sigh, he returned to his big office chair and looked over the paperwork on it. "Let's see...bills...meeting tomorrow...Education head's report for the year...ah, here it is." He pulled a file filled with several papers reviewing a certain Kantre's documents. "Juliani Formeterro...Male, Kantre, 26...I remember this one, bright one, he was...Fresh out of college, I see...Master's degree in Magical Development, going for a Field position, makes sense, and we've got one retiring...Seems like Mr. Formeterro's lucky day."
Meanwhile, the one being scrutinized via paperwork was making his way towards the smokey office. While he was a little disoriented by the time he spent away from the school, it hadn't changed more than a bit, and so he was able to make his way to the office without much work. With a few knocks to the main office, which beheld a quite magnificent oaken door with two stained glass windows at eye-level, he recieved a slightly muffled 'come in' from the voice inside. Walking in with a bright smile, he opened the door to find Dr. Churchill vacating his seat and standing to move in front of his desk. "Ah, Juliani, speak of the devil. Welcome back, son!" As usual, the good-natured side of the headmaster came out in private.
"Dr. Churchill, it's good to be back," Juliani responded, placing his pack down and offering a hand to his superior. He happened to ignore it, however, and went for an embrace instead.
"Juliani, please, its Kilroy now! We've got no need for such formalities when no one's around, you know. How've you been? Well, I hope?"
The younger one laughed and returned the embrace. "Well enough, I suppose. How did you feel when you were in college?"
"Too true, my boy, too true. Well, its good that you went through with it, though, it'll do you good, trust me. And what of the family, are they well?"
Juliani nodded. "They're well, they were happy to see me for longer than a short break before I came here. My brother's in college now, studying mechnics and the like. 'Cars are the future!' I've heard that's been his new motto for quite a while," he said, chuckling. "And what of your family, how are they doing?"
Kilroy chuckled as well. "Well, that's good. As for Jesse and the kids, they're well. Word is, she'll be cooking up a roast for us sometime soon, and you know how those always turn out, eh?"
Juliani's face suddenly turned to one of alarm. Roasts never ended well. This, of course, brought laughter from Kilroy. "Don't worry, my boy, she's actually able to make them now! She's learned to be quite the cook, actually, ever since the neighbor started showing off her skills. One reason I love my Jezebel, always competative until the end, ha! But enough of that." His face became serious. "How're the arms? Are they any better?"
Juliani's hand went to his arm instinctively. "Only as good as they'll ever get, and that's usually not all that grand. We both know that they won't be getting any better any time soon, either, not with what I'm meant for. But at least now I've got other ways to display my uses, rather than doing the normal routine."
"I see. And what of the drinking problem? I'm guessing that's just as good as your arms?"
Juliani nodded. "The less I mess with my arms and my powers, the less I drink. The less I drink, the happier everyone is. So, I try to keep it to other things, like sweat or other things of that nature, to show what I can do." As if to prove this, he spat into his hand, only to hold out a crysal ball of sorts. "This usually works well enough for demonstrations and the like, even if it is a little vulgar-seeming."
Kilroy took the ball and nodded, looking over his glasses at it. "I see. Well, at least you don't have to turn into pudding, yes?" he said, chuckling. "It's good to know that you've at least got some sort of alternative. But anyways, no more depressing stuff. On to business, which isn't much. You've pretty much got the job, if you're willing to take it. You'll be on probation for a while, as is the normal occurence, but it won't effect your pay or your duties and whatnot. You accept, I assume?"
The Kantre smiled. "Of course, sir, how couldn't I?"
"Very easily, my friend: say 'no'!" he commented, laughing and returning to his chair. "Well, now that that's out of the way, come, sit, and we'll discuss the past, present, and future."
Juliani did just that, and they spoke, planned, and discussed for the remainder of most of the day, until the headmaster led the new teacher to his new quarters.
