Little in the galaxy is feared more than the roar of the TIE Fighter's twin ion engines.Designed to replace the RFS TIE Fighter, and originally designated the "Interceptor", the TIE/ln is now the standard TIE Fighter model carried by Imperial warships and deployed at flash points around the galaxy. They take the brunt of Rebel fire in deep-space battles and serve to ward off enemy starfighters, freeing the Star Destroyers or other Imperial cruisers to concentrate firepower on Rebel starships and larger military targets. The TIE/ln differs from the original TIE Space Superiority Fighter model in that its engines are 20% more powerful, its double laser cannons replace the TIE Fighter's single laser cannon, and the hull plates are of a darker hue.

The first of Sienar's TIE series was produced around the time of the rise of the Empire. Like other TIEs, the TIE/ln is built exclusively with Sienar Fleet Systems components. The TIE Front Line Fighter can perform any number of short-range tasks, from fleet escort to space patrol to dogfighting. Recent advances in Rebel technology have rendered starfighters with a slight advantage over the TIE Fighter, which is shieldless and does not have the weapon capacity of the Rebel ships. However, this small disadvantage is remedied by sheer numbers and the skill of our pilots.

To counteract the newer Rebel craft, such as the X-Wing and A-Wing, Imperial forces saw the need to create a starfighter faster and stronger armed than the over-matched TIE Fighter. The TIE Interceptor was born, featuring the bent-tip solar panel design invented by Lord Vader. These solar panels are dagger-shaped for increased visibility from inside the cockpit. Four laser cannons, rather than two, are mounted not on the fuselage, but on the solar panels. The TIE Interceptor is incredibly fast, maybe even more so than the A-Wing. However, it is shieldless.

The TIE Advanced/Avenger is a single-hulled attack ship with bent wings, built from a design developed by Darth Vader just prior the Battle of Yavin. Vader flew a prototype TIE/Ad in the battle, and following the loss of the Death Star, he worked with Seinar Fleet Systems to refine it. The 10-meter craft is very quick and agile.

The TIE Avenger was a version of the TIE Fighter based on the TIE Advanced x1 prototype, and was the precursor to the TIE Interceptor. The Avenger's wings were bent inward at the top and bottom, and the wing supports were strengthened with fins attached to the hull. It also has defelctor shields and a hyperdrive, which significantly added to its cost. Because of this, it was quickly phased out of production and replaced with the TIE Interceptor.

Now more common among the Imperial starfighter wings, the TIE Advanced shows a clear advantage over other TIE models such as the Interceptor because of its shields, which give the pilot added protection, and the hyperdrive, which opens many new possibilities for missions the TIE Advanced can be involved in without the support of a larger mother ship.

The Avenger received its nickname from Imperial pilots after its excellent performance in trials and special missions, and they hoped that this ship would be the retribution against the Rebels for what happened at the Battle of Yavin.

The TIE Defender is an advanced TIE model employing shields and a hyperdrive. This 10-meter starfighter took the stability and agility of the TIE Interceptor's bent-wing design and added a third bent-wing to it. Not much is known about the TIE/de, as it was never fully accepted in battle and never mass-produced.

The TIE Defender was used to defeat the traitor Admiral Zaarin, although the missions were so secret that very few Imperial officials were unaware of its role. The TIE Defender was produced at a cost of over 300,000 credits per fighter - about five times the cost of a TIE/ln. This, plus the political upheaval created by the Battle of Endor and the fact that it had an aft blindspot created by the wing placement, led to the demise of the TIE Defender as a widely-accepted starfighter.

The V38 stealth fighter is a new form of TIE Fighter, developed by Darth Vader during the later years of the Galactic Civil War. It had a central sphere surrounded by three triangular wings, mounted with laser cannons. It had incredible stealth power, evading nearly every known form of sensor. This was due to its uniqe cloaking ability. It was classified by Alliance military leaders as an assault fighter.

Though deadly coming out of its cloak, the element of surprise is the Phantom's only real advantage, because it projects very weak shields. The Phantom has never been mass-produced.

One of the most lethal TIE models, the Bomber's signature feature is the double hull. One portion of the double-hull can carry a lethal array of torpedoes, missiles, space bombs, or other warheads. The Bomber prides itself in its accuracy, and is able to selectively target and destroy small military targets on planetary surfaces or capital ships, while leaving commercial or miltiary assets untouched.

TIE/d's are pilotless TIE Fighters run by onboard droids, designed by Arndall Lott following the Battle of Endor. Lott used the Katana fleet as an inspiration, seeing that the automated systems could work if implemented correctly. Lott originally automated the AT-AT, but his early work suffered from lack of computer power. The TIE/D has received the best automation the Empire could afford, and could be used as independent fighters or computer-slaved squadrons. However, the initial TIE/Ds were not very powerful, and were only effective in large numbers. The TIE/D measured 6.1 meters, and resemble the center section of a TIE Fighter with squared-off TIE Interceptor-like wings which were flat and tilted. The TIE/D was armed with a pair of laser cannons, and lacked a hyperdrive. A Cybot Galactica Ace-6 combat droid brain is the heart of the ship, but was shown to be greatly inferior to human pilots. The TIE/D, although produced in large volumes to overwhelm New Republic starfighters, was primarily produced by the nuclear furnaces and factories of World Devastators. When these were destroyed over Calamari, the primary sources of the TIE/Ds were eliminated.

An upgrade to the TIE/rc, the TIE Vanguard Enhanced Reconnaissance Fighter carries more advanced state-of-the-art sensor systems, as well as sporting a reduced profile with its unique bent-shaped solar panels to evade notice from enemy sensors. Built from the basic TIE/ln design, the Vanguard's solar collectors were smaller on the top half than on the bottom. The top part was also bent slightly outward. The central ball of the strafighter was equipped with enhanced communications equipment.

This reconnaissance fighter was deployed to gather information of enemy starship movements before engaging the fleet in battle. Proceeding a fleet in realspace, the Vanguard would sweep for mines, powered down starfighters, and other hazards, and conduct (escorted) perimeter sweeps around space installations.

The Empire's newest and most common scout/reconnaissance fighter is the TIE/src. Outwardly, the TIE/src resembles a TIE Avenger with a large sensor drum above the cockpit ball. This drum carries the TIE/src's sensor equipment. The solar panel pylons are longer and thicker, and these also carry sensor equipment. Very fast and equipped with a hyperdrive, the Empire believes that this is their ideal scout.

As pirates, smugglers, crime lords and the Rebellion gained access to more advanced surface-to-air defense weapons, ground suppression and drop-ship missions became increasingly dangerous for the Empire. To defend against these emplacements, a number of Sector commands started replacing the weapons systems of the TIE/gt and TIE Bomber with off-the-shelf communication and sensor jammers. Sienar engineers learned of these field modifications and requested permission to examine them. From these early field prototypes, they designed a successful sensors and communications jamming craft. The TIE/ew is equipped with a communications scanner, full spectrum communications and sensor jammers, and a slightly improved sensor package. Crippling the planet-based forces' ability to see incoming craft, they were unable to target and destroy them before they reached the planet surface. When coupled with TIE/fr's in Hunter elements, these are a great danger to Rebel units. The TIE/ew has saved the lives of many Imperial soldiers.

TIE/h Hunter
user posted image

The TIE Hunter sports a wing configuration that is the reverse of a TIE interceptor, but without the center square piece. Its wings have S-foil servos allowing them to open when in attack mode and close for improved acceleration.

The fighter is armed with two ion cannons, two laser cannons and two proton torpedo launchers. Unusually, it also has shields and a hyperdrive. It carries a crew of one.

Hunters were designed exclusively for the Imperial Storm Commandos to combat the X-wing. The fighter copied the X-wing's main feature (the wing configuration) while keeping the distinctive TIE fighter look. The Empire refused to use the ships in large quantities because they were based on a craft of the Rebellion.

TIE Hunters tend to accelerate faster than the X-Wing, but sacrifice the inherent manuverability of the classic TIE fighter, TIE interceptor, etc.

During one assault on an Executor-Class Star Destroyer that was under construction above Fondor, Rogue Squadron commander Wedge Antilles and fellow members used captured TIE Hunters to try to trick Imperial officers into letting them pass. The plan failed, but they managed to break in by destroying a shield generator. Once in, Rogue Squadron destroyed all three cloaking devices, causing a chain reaction that destroyed the ship.

Introduced as an even deadlier upgrade to the Assault Gunboat, the Missile Boat is the elite long-distance weapons fighting platform. Designed by Cygnus under the commission of Grand Admiral Thrawn, the Missile Boat quickly made a name for itself, becoming an object of terror to convoys, starfighter pilots, and capital ship crews alike. A single Missile Boat can hold up to 80 concussion missiles, an unprecedented amount of fire power for a ship of that size.

Though deadly from long-range, Imperial pilots dislike the Missile Boat once they get into the thick of combat. A single weak laser cannon and bad maneuverability make the Missile Boat vulnerable in dogfights. For this reason it is best to dispatch a flight of TIE Advanced or Defenders to guard the Missile Boats and dogfight, freeing up the Missile Boat to sow death from long range.

Because of the Missile Boat's production cost and its dogfighting handicap, the Missile Boat has not become as common in Imperial fleets as many anticipated.

After desining the beautiful Lambda-class Imperial Shuttle, Cygnus Spaceworks was awarded a contract to produce an assault vehicle, and the XG-1 Star Wing, commonly called the Assault Gunboat, was the result. Its unique five-wing design enables the Assault Gunboat to excel in atmosphere or deep space. The Assault Gunboat is an ideal escort craft, and with its heavy shielding and strong armament, the Star Wing is deadly when attacking convoys and capital ships.

The TIE Interdictor is the most powerful bomber and capital-ship killer in the Imperial Navy. With four ordnance pods- each with two bays- attached to a command pod, the Interdictor's ordnance load is staggering.

The central pod has the obligatory twin laser cannons, and each ordnance pod has a universal launcher to fire its contents into space. When using proton bombs, which must be fed out of the ordnance chutes on the underside of the bottom two pods, bombs in the upper pods can be transferred to the lower ones for delivery via a set of ports which drop the ordnance directly into the lower bays' racks.

The Interdictor is expensive, ponderous, and rare. It therefore is equipped with significant shielding to protect it on its runs.

A single wing of Interdictors can destroy most small and medium sized capital ships if they are able to accurately deliver their payloads. Interdictors are never deployed without heavy fighter and corvette screening to protect them and draw fire.

2 Borstel NK-3 Ion Cannons (top wing)
1 Krupx Void-7 aft seismic charge launcher (3 charges)
Shields: Novaldex Forward/Rear (220 SBD)

The TIE Oppressor is an elite Imperial multi-role fighter. Rare and with excellent performance, the Oppressor's high cost prevents its large-scale deployment.

The Oppressor's heavy armament is built around a whopping eight laser cannons and a pair of ion cannons. A triple array of modified torpedo launchers provide heavy firepower and are effective against capital ships. Its defensive weapon- a seismic charge launcher- can destroy entire squadrons of enemy starfighters if properly employed.

This TIE variant is almost as fast as the TIE Interceptor, and is slightly more maneuverable. It is outrun and outmaneuvered by the Avenger and Defender, but is more heavily armed than either of them. Its role is, primarily, to combat enemy capital ships, but it is very capable against most Rebel starfighters. It is a well-balanced, all-purpose fighter.

Shields: Chempat Defender forward/rear (55 SBD)
Hull: Structurally reinforced titanium with quadanium armored solar panels; internal anticoncussion system.

The TIE Aggressor is the fastest TIE model yet produced. Its incredibly powerful advanced ion engines draw from a large internal fuel reserve. It easily can match the Frei-tek D-wing.

The Aggressor can reach speeds up to 400 MGLT for short durations with its advanced sublight accelerator boost unit engaged. This system diverts power from other systems to the engine arrays, giving the fighter unprecedented speed at the cost of weapon and shield power. It is also hard on the reinforced structure of the craft to maneuver at these speeds, despite its advanced inertial compensator.

As an interceptor, the Aggressor is designed to catch a fleeing target and disable or destroy it. It is armed with two powerful laser cannons and a single ion cannon. Because of its powerful engine system, the Aggressor can generate large amounts of power; thus, when the SLA is not engaged, the ion cannon and lasers are much more powerful than normal. They are modified to handle the increased power throughput. This gives the Aggressor deadly firepower despite only having 3 forward cannons. Oddly, the ion cannon is mounted on the pod's chin instead of the traditional lasers. Due to the modifications made, the laser cannons are slung under the pod on either side, giving them greater barrel galven length and more room for upgraded components.

On the stern of the craft, two small KX5 lasers are mounted on a turret. A fiberoptic vision system allows the pilot to see from the turret's point of view as well as aim and fire it. Aggressor pilots use their aft lasers to surprise and momentarily stun enemy pursuers, before easily outmaneuvering and destroying them. Aggressor pilots are trained to mastery of this system, allowing them to manage the aft defense gun and fly at the same time with only minimal performance loss.

Although incredibly fast and maneuverable, the Aggressor suffers from a weak shield system. Its hull is heavily reinforced to withstand the rigors of high-speed sublight in and out of atmosphere and can take more punishment than most TIE model hulls. Though not normally utilized against capital ships, the Aggressor is relatively effective against them, as its speed allows it to easily evade turbolaser and point-defense fire. It is hindered by its lack of a torpedo or missile launcher.

The Aggressor is also used as a point-defense fighter for capital ships. Thanks to its maneuverability, it is exceptionally effective in this regard and can quickly clear away enemy bombers attacking the hull.

The TIE Sniper is built around the TIE Experimental E1 chassis retooled for a human pilot rather than a droid brain, and an improved weapon, plus a specialized mission.

The Sniper is a standoff attack fighter designed for use against capital ships. It functions against them much like the Torpedo Sphere does against planetary shields.

Its single ball-mounted H9 turbolaser has been modified extensively, adding far more galven coils and circuitry and a much larger power allotment.

The pilot has access to advanced dedicated energy receptor banks, optical magnifiers, and vision filters, allowing him to zoom in on the target for long-range shots.

When the Sniper finds a valid target, it uses its DERs to analyse the target's shield from a safe distance, locating seams and intermittent weak points in the shield. The advanced fire control computer automatically aids the pilot in targeting a precise shot on these weak points and seams.

The H9 turbolaser is modulated to fire a two-shot burst when fired. The first blast opens a minuscule hole in the weak point of the shield, allowing the trailing second shot to pass through unaffected and damage the target's hull. Sniper pilots are trained to go for a vessel's engines and shield generators, but generally these are well-shielded and not vulnerable to a precision lightning strike.

The Sniper has weak shields and a hyperdrive. After attacking, the Sniper generally makes a quick getaway, as it is helpless in a dogfight.

These flying cannons are built to suppress enemy columns in space and on the ground. Although slow and ponderous, the Predator's armament speaks for itself. Enemy troops on a planet's surface are in terrible danger when a Predator squadron is present.

Armed with six standard lasers for space combat and strafing, two XV7 light turbolasers providing destructive area firepower and power against large ships, two firelinked ion cannons for attacking ships, three bolt-spewing rotary ground-attack heavy blasters, twin missile launchers, and a bomb launcher, the Predator can force enemy formations in space into unfavorable positions by operating as standoff, and in atmosphere, they perform all of the ground attack and close air support functions a ground commander should ever need.

Because of their limited bomb armament, they often serve as strafing support while TIE Bombers and Interdictors carry heavy bomb loads in. With all its lasers and blasters firing, the Predator can produce a terrifying barrage of destruction, and can effortlessly vaporize armor and infantry under cover with its turbolasers.

Hull: Structurally reinforced titanium with quadanium armored solar panels.

The TIE Cobra is fast becoming the Remnant's atmospheric fighter of choice.

With blazing in-atmosphere speed and maneuverability and fair armament, the Cobra can intercept enemy bombing wings or defend friendly bombers from enemy defense fighters with ease.

The Cobra performs relatively poorly in space, barely defeating the basic TIE/ln in space performance, but can outmaneuver almost any other craft in a planet's atmosphere thanks to its design, thrusters and jet boosters.

The Cobra's concussion missile launcher fires gravity-wave/infrared homing missiles with enhanced range, maneuverability and speed for tracking down enemy fighters and destroying them. A single missile hit is usually enough to disable or destroy most fighters and small bombers.

The Cobra's wing design creates lift in atmosphere and reduces strain and power consumption of the fighter's repulsorlift enginges. The wings are mounted on vertical servos that allow the wings to be angled up or down up to 30 degrees either way, giving the lasers rotation capability like the Alliance A-wing.

Further, Imperial technicians have souped up the Cobra's lasers for its mission by increasing their rate of fire. The Cobra's twin lasers are capable of linked full autofire- excellent for dogfights- but the pilot must be careful and regulate his firing, as the cannons will overheat and be rendered temporarily inoperable if overused.

The TIE Cyclone is a very special TIE model; it is perhaps the most maneuverable fighter ever produced. It may not be the fastest or most heavily armed, but no standard fighter can outmaneuver the Cyclone.

With three Interceptor wing arrays mounted with maneuvering thrusters, the Cyclone can generate large amounts of power from its solar arrays and uses this to power its engines and its blistering array of twelve forward lasers and ion cannons.

The Cyclone's wing arrangement gives the maneuvering thrusters better spacing and cover of the ship than the Defender, allowing it to perform seemingly impossible maneuvers to outwit and destroy or disable the enemy.

The Cyclone's lone major flaw is its inability to fit in standard TIE racks. This means it must be deployed in shuttle slots aboard Star Destroyers, limiting them to only a few Cyclones. Therefore, Cyclones are carried on board Escort Carriers, specially modified carrier capital ships, or launched from planetary garrisons for space defense.

Shields: Chempat Defender (50 SBD)
Hull: Structurally reinforced titanium with quadanium armored solar panels

The Devastator has one purpose: to loft its massive pair of proton missiles to the target and destroy it.

This TIE variant utilizes two massive, state-of-the-art proton missiles in its special launch tubes. These missiles can penetrate hardened armor plating and particle shields and are half-comprised of their proton-scattering warheads, providing enough power to annihilate entire chunks of superstructure with a solid hit. Unfortunately, due to the massive warhead and armor-piercing plating, these missiles are lax in the propulsion department and thus must be launched from within a few kilometers of the target ship's hull. They are quite slow and can be hit by point defense batteries; thus, Devastator pilots prefer to tail along with fighter wings and fire their missiles at point-blank range, allowing the propellant to drive the missile further in and deal more explosive damage.

Once free of its explosive burden, the Devastator becomes a somewhat capable fighter in its own right, comparable to the TIE/ln, except with shields.

The TIE Reaper is often called a support gun platform; this is not the case. The Reaper is designed to support agile dogfighting craft against large numbers of enemy fighters.

Four massive heavy laser cannons deliver a withering, nonstop barrage of firepower across a wide area. Compared to standard TIE lasers, the Reaper's heavy cannons can rip through an enemy starfighter with far fewer shots than normal. They are cryocooled and can use autofire to saturate a flight route, making it a suicide run for enemy starfighters.

Reapers generally travel in packs of three in order to most effectively deluge in area in laser fire. Because of their volume of fire, they are also quite deadly against light capital ships in groups, and can hit from beyond standard lasers' range. Their heavy lasers cannot outrange turbolasers, however.

Generally employed by the elite of the elite, the TIE Omega is considered by many to be the epitome of current Imperial fighter technology, and by some as the greatest TIE variant ever.

This versatile all-purpose fighter is fast, maneuverable, and hits brutally hard, employing laser and ion cannons, missiles and torpedoes, mass drivers, and an after defense cannon. It remains effective in atmosphere, and its destructive potential is matched only by a few other TIE variants. Even more, it mounts a powerful active jamming package to blind its victims, but it is rarely needed; the Omega has the ability to cloak just like the TIE Phantom, but uses an innovative one-way monopolarity shield, allowing limited forward vision for the pilot while cloaked. All other sensors are still blocked both ways by the cloak.

A blistering Class .5 hyperdrive and potent shields round out the Omega. These fighters are incredibly difficult to take down, especially when coupled with their superior speed and maneuverability.

Its fatal flaw is its rarity, with only a few Omegas being produced every year due to cost and difficult production. However, they are top quality.

The TIE Sigma is the Empire's starfighter of the future. It outclasses all when it comes to space combat, although most pilots prefer to fly the more straightforward TIE Omega; the Sigma has one of the steepest learning curves of any fighter in the Galaxy. Only the best pilots are able to tame this highly unstable fighter- with terrifying results.

Though capable of ground assault, the Sigma is born and bred to shoot down enemy starfighters with ease. It has four standard laser cannons, two ion cannons, two continuous-beam laser cannons, and two missile launchers above and below the cockpit. A sternward-angled bomblet generator uses onboard energy cells to create unstable energy spheres and eject them out behind the craft. Though the cell capacity is limited depending on the level of charge per bomb, a fully charged energy bomb will devastate ships and ground forces.

The Sigma is hard to learn because of its bubble cockpit and because of its extreme maneuverability. Pilots must grow accustomed to being a giant holographic HUD bubble instead of just the forward mounted displays. This system tracks targets in all directions, and making out targets amidst the clutter can be frustrating.

Not only that, but the Sigma's maneuvering thrusters are incredibly responsive and powerful, and overcompensating is potentially catastrophic even with the safety systems.

But it doesn't stop there. The pilot must operate the micro-tractor beam arrays- similar to those on the Geonosian Nantex fighters of yore- for maximum effectiveness. Mounted in strips for full coverage, these arrays allow the Sigma to slingshot off of terrain, ships, or starfighters while slowing enemy fighters down. In a high-target environment, a Sigma can literally catapult itself around the battlefield at speeds so great it appears to be a giant proton torpedo. The Sigma can even do 180-degree turns against trailing fighters using this system.

All in all, coupled with the advanced lead-computing system and avionics, the TIE Sigma has the upper hand against any starfighter, and should be flown with care.
