Personally, it is Nvidia, for several reasons
First of all I feel that you get more bang for your buck and are more reliable. Next, the drivers actually work, ATI produce good cards, but the drivers are what screws them over.
Next ATI will work better with HL2 because apparently some research has been done and results concluded that the programming was biased towards ATI, personally I think this is bulls.
Currently running a nVidia XFX 6600GT (overclocked)
AT the end of the day, I've never had any problems with it and works perfectly fine and never let me down.
This argument has been going around for a long time and the conclusion is that they both produce good chipsets but are constantly revelling with first place. nVidia hold the prize for dual graphic cards and with the release of the 7900GTX 512, thrown them into first with single cards as well. nVidia for gaming and ATI for more production.
At the end of the day it is up to you, each company has its own benefits and downfalls.
