I have just bought a Canon 500D and will be looking for a flash unit over the next few weeks.
Any suggestions what to get/avoid? |

From my limited point of view this is a classic "you pays yer money and takes yer choice" With the new top spec Canon 500D the Canon Speedlite would be my one and only choice. The 430EX is available for under £200 and the 580EX about £100 more But what you get is a flash that is 100% compatible with the camera and it shows when you use it. Fully intuitive, sturdy and a swivel head. What you need to bear in mind is that 'some' flashes are no better than the in built camera flash - from my experience the Jessops 300AFD is a classic. Selling at £100 its cheap and easy to operate but with a GN of 30m is only slightly better better than the Canon 400D built in flash (15 GN) But then I am good at spending other peoples money............... |
