The boarding house is untidy, but with the multiude of animals going in and out of it, it's hardly surprising. On the lower floor of the room, several cages give this room an almost maze-like layout. A set of double doors at the left side leads out to the Service Road, while the double doors at the right side of this large room lead out into the Stage area.

Towards the back of this room, a set of steel steps leads to the balcony above, where the controls for operating the crane can be found. At the other end of this balcony, a door leads out into the balcony area of the Stage.

Stepping into the board house Max staggered forwards slightly but regained his composure before looking around the current room he was in. sliding his empty handgun into the back of his pants he held his pipe in both hands, like an expecting housewife with a rolling pin, testing the heavy end.

Entering, Max can see that the lighting in the building is dim, making it a little difficult to see clearly. A large cage, some of the bars of which appear to have been bent out of shape, stands in front of him, with paths running around the left and right sides of it. Another similar looking cage stands to the left a short distance, blocking off a quick route to what looks to be a set of steps beyond it up to a balcony, though giving enough room for Max to advance along the left path.

The right path leads past a small open vent in the wall nearby, which likely leads back outside to the Service Road.

A low snarling can be heard from somewhere within...

Squinting to see further ahead, Max cautiously walked forwards towards the left path, looking for any signs of what wasnt appreciating his presence.

Heading around the left side of the cage in front of him, Max moves around the corner. Straight ahead from here is a short row of crates, which Max could climb over to get to the other side if he wished, though a path also runs to the right just before these crates and around a third cage down in this section of the room. Opposite him, across on the other side of the crates, Max can see another set of double doors leading outside to elsewhere.

Trying to discern where the snarling was coming from, Max soon finds himself discovering without a choice as a hyena drops down from the cage he had just moved to get around and a second can be seen scampering quickly past the other side of the row of crates, vanishing from sight afterwards.

Startled at the hyena Max decided there wasnt much more here for him except the possibility of more Hyenas lying in wait. He thought the best option he had at the moment was to make for the double doors. Climbing the first crate of the row Max braced himself for anymore Hyenas as he jumped down from the crates and began made his way to the double doors, his pipe clutched tightly in both hands...

Max is able to quickly climb atop the crates before the Hyena nips at him, though dropping down on the other side reveals the second Hyena waiting just to his left, blocking off the path that runs along to the steps he had previously seen. The first hyena begins to scamper off to the right back on the other side of the crates, no doubt intending to flank Max.

Max finds the double doors to be right in front of him from where he is standing.

Making a move for the doors, Max takes the initiative to swing for the second Hyena stalking him on the left hand side before making a bee line to the double doors, not wanting to fight two rabid Hyenas with a pipe...

Max takes one step forward, the doors now right up in front of him considering he had already been in close proximity to them. Swinging his pipe at the second hyena, Max misses as the beast dodges back. The other hyena appears from around the corner of a crate to the right and begins slowly moving over towards Max.

"Well fuck this!" Backing up against the door, staying facing the first hyena until he can open the door, Max quickly heads throw, attempting to close it directly behind him.

Heading back to the boarding house, Max hoped the Hyenas were too busy with other guests to give him a warm welcome. The well-being of Jen and Austin weighed on him, but right now he had to fend for himself.

Entering from the tower, Max finds himself on the metal platform at the left side of the Boarding House, elevated above the lower floor he had been in previously. To the right at the far end of the platform from him are the steps leading down to the lower floor.

Along the wall to the right, Max can see a few shelves lined with various things, most of it appearing to be equipment for maintaining the zoo enclosures. To the left, there appears to be the control for operating a crane which dangles over one of the cages in the lower section.

Max cannot see any signs of the hyenas from his current position, though he can hear their growling...

Spotting the shelves, Max scavenges for anything that might help him "maintain the zoo"... he'd make his way over to the cages next, but for now- a good rummage would help him out.

Searching the nearby shelves, Max is able to find some ammo as well as a medicinal item.

As he searches, one of the hyenas scampers up from the steps and turns to face him, now just a short distance away from the old man.

Taking the hemostat and quickly snapping the half empty magazine into his gun, Max remains put and fires off 2 rounds at the Hyena, backed up against the shelves with nowhere to go, and it wasnt the first time- just like the time he held of 30 enemy troppers with nothing but a boobytrap set off by his shoelaces he used for a trip wire, and his M16.

After the two shots, Max closes the distance with a stance that prepares his iron pipe swing almost in a golf club fashion.

Max slips the ammo into his handgun and promptly fires off two shots as he enters yet another state of war frenzy, hitting the Hyena right between the eyes with both shots, killing it. (ZH #1, Killed).

War does crazy things to a man, evidently.

Max would love to stop and admire the incredible (as usual) shot he had just performed, but something inside of his head told him the danger hadnt subsided...

he'd check the remaining areas within the boarding house and then head back out to fight the lion mano y mano, for now he checked the area for any more ambushing Hyenas

The scampering of the second of the two hyenas he had encountered here previously can be heard, though the beast is not in sight from his position on the platform.

Heading down the steps the hyena he had just killed had sprung up from, he finds himself face to face with a large cage that blocks off the quick route from the bottom of these steps to the double doors back out to the Service Road.

To his left is a route past various crates, leading around a cage to the right at the end towards the lower floor door out to the Stage area he had been in just before. Looking along this route however, Max can now see the second hyena, staring at him from just a few steps away.

Swapping his handgun out for his pipe, he clutches it in both hands in preparation, he spotted the hyena late, but these definitely werent as vicious as the lion- and for that he was grateful. Attempting to take the hyena off guard, Max runs to the left side and brings the pipe down on the hyena in a hammer-like motion twice.
