The rear gate of the Zoo leads out into the nearby street. A short distance down the road, the Elephant Restaurant is also part of the Zoo's business. A notice board is outside the restaurant, with a map of the vicinity nailed to it...

Looking over his shoulder, it seems like they had left the rioters behind, looking around Max sees the notice board outside the elephant restaurant slightly down the street, and decides that it'd be a good place to start. He had never been to the zoo even with it being so near, but his priority was getting Jen back to health.

Jen sits down on the edge of the pavement nearby while she catches her breath. Looking to the noticeboard, there appears to be a notice already stuck to it if he wished to read it.

Keeping an eye on Jen, Max decides the notice could be important, and goes to read it.

Max reads the notice, finding that it is written by the R.P.D.

Evacuation Order

To the citizens of Raccoon City:

This is an important bulletin from the Raccoon City Police Department. Incidents of riots and looting are being reported around the city at an alarming frequency.

We are doing all that we can to bring the city under control and quell the riots, but we recommend that citizens evacuate the area to ensure their safety.

We are dispatching helicopters to the following locations. Please bring proper ID and assemble here:
Place: Zoo front gate tram terminal
Time: Today at 10 AM. 3 PM. 6PM. 9PM (tentative schedule)

This area will soon be cordoned off, so civilians are advised to disperse immediately. Please follow all orders and, above all, remain calm.

Max waves over Jen to come read the notice

"Guess this is happening everywhere then.."

Max felt sorry for Jen, after all, she was relying on some old man who could barely protect himself, nevermind a wounded girl.

"so, lets get you patched up, and then we'll wait by the front gate and get out of here yeah?"

Max wasnt exactly the most profound speaker, and dreaded the moment when Jen inevitably started asking questions about her mom's whereabouts... Max looked around for any indications of the time.

Jen came over and began reading the notice. Meanwhile, Max found that the only indication of the time nearby that he could see was the Clock Tower, though 'nearby' was quite an overstatement. The Clock Tower was too far off in the distance to be able to see the time clearly enough. He'd just have to hope.

Jen finished reading the notice and pointed towards the nearby restaurant.

"Maybe there're others in there? Maybe my mom's in there, sir!"

"Well we're here, we may aswell go check inside."

Max grimaced, but it felt far easier than telling the truth of what he saw to Jen.
Turning from the notice board, Max walks towards the entrance to the restaurant.

Walking towards the entrance, Max is unable to see inside as a result of the blinds being drawn. Jen, in her excitment, rushes ahead of him and opens the door, heading inside.

Walking back out to the zoo gate, holding Jen's hand, he noticed he hadnt seen or heard any helicopters, so maybe they were getting lucky and due in for an evac.

Then again, maybe not.

Coming out into the alleyway behind the restaurant, Max could see that the alleyway led around a corner to the left, likely back onto the street out front. To the right, it appeared to be a deadend.

A single groan implied that the two were not alone in the alleyway, though the figure making the noise didn't appear to be in view from where they were standing.

Max curses his luck, he hoped inside the zoo wasnt going to be in the same situation. They must have followed them from the streets.

Moving into the alleyway, he motions for Jen to stay behind him, offering Jen his knife, and slipping the handgun out of the back of his pants...

"dont use it unless you really have to..."

Jen took the knife, though she seemed to fumble with it, entirely inexperienced with fighting by the looks of it. It seemed almost like she'd be unable to use it even when the time came.

Heading around the corner to the left, Max can see a door at the end of the alleyway which does indeed seem to run back out to the road in front of the restaurant.

However, between Max and Jen and the door, stood another one of the monsters...

thankfully, Max had just took out his handgun, and Jen didnt seem to mind. He didnt seem to mind using it either, it took him back to firing down the range back in boot camp. Licking his lips he dropped to one knee and straightened his arms. Holding his breathe, he fired two shots. He felt rusty, a shadow of his former self, but he could feel the experience of firing a weapon flood back to him as the recoil came.

The first shot blew one of the Zombie's arms clean off, while the next caught it in the chest and caused it to stumble backwards. (Zombie #1 -15, -9). Jen cowered behind Max, refusing to engage in combat.

Caught up in the moment, and not wanting to spend his precious ammo- Max capitalized on the zombie stumbling backwards, running forward and planting a kick before shooting the zombie a final time. All of this action took him way back, for so long he felt shallow, but action like this made him feel alive.

The kick causes the Zombie to stumble further back and the gunshot floors it. (Zombie #1 -3, -8). Jen runs for the door at the end of the alleyway and waits for Max there.

Not wanting to waste the rest of his ammo, Max flips the gun around and attempts caving in the zombies head with the but of his gun.
