*waves to all* I'm here to try out for Maes Hughes, if you hadn't guessed, and here goes. ^^
There was something amiss. There had been something tugging at the back of his mind since he had gotten up and gone to work that morning and for the life of him he couldn't put his finger on it. It wasn't that people were ignoring him, or paying him anymore attention than usual, but something was definately being plotted.
And being Maes Hughes, head of the Military's Information Department, he was going to find out.
It was only a few hours into the day in the office, and he was already beginning to become annoyed with the feeling that had been radiating around him. Any soul poor enough to enter the domain which was his office was immediately flooded with the endless supply of Elycia pictures and interogated mercilessly--to no avail. His office was not a safe place for the faint of heart.
Lunch finally rolled around and, finding a breaking point in his neglected work for the day, Hughes made his way to the cafeteria. What met his eyes was not something he expected, but instantly knew he should have. His co-workers had thrown him a surprise birthday party and he had forgotten it was his birthday.
Still amazed at his own lack of observation, Maes allowed himself to fall into the mood of celebration, the paranoia that had dominated his morning melting away instantly. "Thank you, all of you," he said to the room. "For such a touching surprise, I reward you each... with pictures of my darling daughter Elycia!"
