Title: The Role Playing Game!
Description: Ok Everybody interested in Role Playing!

Marshmallow - October 21, 2007 06:21 AM (GMT)
Come here people and read :D

Ok we will do some simple rules :D

Everybody I can't find my Big Eyes Small Mouth RPG, and all my other RPGs seem to be a bit too involved.

And I want the rules to be simple ^_^

So here are the rules:

Each person has three main stats:

1. Physical
2. Mental
3. Spiritual/Power

Physical tells us how strong you are and how much of a beating you can take
Mental tells us how smart you are and how fast you can figure out puzzles
Spiritual tells us how cool you are with your soul and other powers (such as magic if you can cast magic)

Now you also have background:

Low Educated High Physical background means you're not as smart as everybody else, but you can do a lot of physical feats :D Most people from Rome or Gunslingers fit this category. This is also appropriate for characters such as Astro Boy who don't know much but are very powerful.
If you choose this then you have a 3 points in general knowledge (basic problems, cooking, survival all that goody stuff). You can also claim (make up) 7 different types of combat or physical oriented skills or advantages.

Medium Educated Medium Physical background - pretty much what an average schoolkid or college student is today: You get 5 points in general knowledge, and you can claim (make up) 5 different types of combat or physical oriented skills or advantages.

Highly Educated Low Physical Background - pretty much is someone who knows a lot but can't do physical activities. You get 5 points in general knowledge and 2 points in Advanced knowledge, and you only get 3 different points to claim Combat or Physical oriented skills or advantages.

Ok now, while you think of your background, let's talk about how you get to use your points for your three main stats:
1. Physical
2. Mental
3. Spiritual/Power

Each player gets 12 points to start off with.

Having 4 in each category is normal. Even if you're an alien, or a robot, or a fairy, or a warrior, or a starfleet officer you're considered normal and accepted in society.

Now you can choose Drawbacks, there are three levels for each drawback:
1. Low = severity of -5 to your checks associated with the drawback, but you get 2 bonus points to spend for your stats or skills or advantages.
Example of a low drawback: Astro Boy needs to recharge every night or his battery might fail. Pretty common drawback, and easily prevented.

Secret Identities can be low depending on how much of a problem the secret identity causes you.

2. Medium = severity of -10 to your checks associated with the drawback, but you get 4 bonus points to spend on your stats or skills or advantages.
Example of a medium drawback: Astro Boy is a Boy! And as such people treat him like a minor without much respect. Also, he is very new to the world and doesn't always understand why people do bad things.

Secret Identities can be Medium depending on how much of a problem the secret identity causes you.

3. Achilles heel = severity of -15 to your checks associated with the drawback. This is like Superman having Kryptonite! Or Astro Boy being a Robot in a world of anti-robot racist people (be careful choosing an achilles heel, if it's not detrimental enough, I might make it worse!). You get 8 bonus points to spend on your stats or skills/advantages.

Now, you can choose as many "drawbacks" as you want, but BE CAREFUL! I will use them against you!!!!!!!!! WUAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAH You can make up your own drawbacks :)

Advantages - ok this one is a biggie. You "buy" Advantages. When you lose an advantage you get 1/2 of the cost back to spend on your character, but you have to pay double to get that advantage back!

Examples of Advantages:

Low Advantage (costs 4 points for a bonus of +5 to an associated roll):
Example : Being a freelance photographer at a newspaper so you can get the inside scoop whenever a supervillain is heisting a bank. You can make extra money, and get information pretty easily, but you're not the richest kid on the block (Peter Parker)
Or a very Weak Power (such as the power to see random visions of the future like in the T.V. Show the Dead Zone).

Medium Advantage (Costs 8 points for +10 to an associated roll):
Example : Being a reporter at a newspaper so you can get the inside schoop whenever a villain is doing something bad. Because you're a full time reporter you also have access to various methods of research as well as friends you've made throughout your career (such as a local police department).
Another Example: Having a somewhat weak superpower (x ray vision)

High Advantage (cost 12 points for +15 to an associated roll):
Example : Being Bruce Wayne and practically owning the world.
Another Example : Having a very powerful Super Power

Each player has 2 types of Karma for each identity their character has (such as if you have a secret identity).

Now you can decide how you want your Karma to reflect. If you want to play a superhero such as a Lone Ranger, then your Karma is going to be a reflection of good and friendly. If you want to be Batman then your Karma is going to be a reflection of how you inspire fear in all bad guys.

So you have:

Populace Karma
Personal Karma

Populace Karma is for the whole of society. If you are saving the lives of large groups of people you gain this Karma.

Personal Karma is awarded for each good act you do for a single person, even if they won't tell anyone, you do it for them and just for them.

IF you have a Secret Identity then you have Karma for each Identity like this:

Joe Schmoe Populace Karma
Joe Schmoe Personal Karma
Super Joe Populace Karma
Super Joe Personal Karma

You gain bonuses for the amount of Karma you have. People who know you by both of your identities allow you to use both of the types of Karma together for related rolls (if Joe asks his girlfriend to trust him, he would roll his Karma check and Super Joe Personal Karma and Joe Schmoe Personal Karma would be added together)!

People who only know one of the identities would only use the appropriate karma for the appropriate identity (i.e. people who only know Super Joe would only recognize Super Joe Karma).

Every time a character does something contrary to his/her mission, they have a chance to lose Karma of the appropriate type.

Super Powers:
If you have super powers, you use your points (such as combat points) you first need to decide how powerful your super power is.
Can you fly? How do you fly? Is it automatic like superman? or do you have to use power and jets to fly like Astro Boy? How fast do you fly?
Make a little pro/con sheet, and list that sheet and then decide if it's a medium advantage or a very big advantage, and purchase that advantage!
Some powers can be increased!
Some can't. If you purchase a power that can't be increased, their cost is divided in 1/2. But after you make your character, you can't ever increase that power!!!!!

I will tell you how you can increase your powers later ^_^

You decide and post, and I will try to make it look right if it doesn't ^_^

When you purchase a power, after you decide if it's Weak, Medium or Strong. You gain 2 points. You can purchase 2 more points for the same cost as the initial power cost. A weak power costs 4 points to gain 2 points. A Medium Power costs 8 points to gain 2 points. And a Strong Power costs 12 points to gain 2 points.

Now, I want everybody to come up with their character! IF you don't know how to fill out all your information then just make sure you give a good background description and I'll help you make up good skills ^_^

Potato - October 21, 2007 07:06 AM (GMT)
 I don't understand. :apathetic:

can i make another RP thread but with a much simpler setting? Role Playing is meant to take on the character out of something, and act as if that character is in normal everyday life.

Marshmallow - October 21, 2007 07:14 AM (GMT)
Just try to make a character potato :D in the very least, make the background and tell me what kind of powers you want, I'll help you with the rest :D

Potato - October 21, 2007 07:41 AM (GMT)
O....k? well, my powers are all the ones everyone would want, ability to fly, invisibility, ability to drive a car without crashing into the wall, immunity against disease (and anything else dangerous) and eternal youth. Not to mention being able to breathe underwater. :)

I'm stuck at the name bit though. :apathetic:

Ludak - October 21, 2007 11:39 AM (GMT)
I do not get it.

Marshmallow - October 21, 2007 04:41 PM (GMT)
Ludak, do what potato did, think of a good hero, and then try to make a background. See, the trick, Ludak, is to take it One Step at a Time ^_^

Potato, you got the right idea! Now, you gave me a place to begin!

Ok so potato, now that you gave me a basis to work with you, let's begin filling out the character sheet:

Name: Potato's Character!
Age:
Sex:
Weight:
Height:
Secret Identity (if you have one):
Super Identity (if you have one):
Initial Points: 12

Background: (who are you? what do you do? what do you want to do?)
Points gained from Background
Medium Educated Medium Physical background - pretty much what an average schoolkid or college student is today: You get 5 points in general knowledge, and you can claim (make up) 5 different types of combat or physical oriented skills or advantages.
General Knowledge: 5 Points
Physical/Advantages/Combat: 5 Points

Disadvantages:
Points gained from Disadvantages:___

Advantages:
Points spent on advantages:___

Powers: (do you have any?)

Stats: 12 Points
Physical
Mental
Spiritual/Power

Populace Karma
Personal Karma
(repeat if you have secret identity)

Skills:
(You can have 4 more specific non combat skills because you have a Medium Education Background.)
Skill 1: Drive a Car (you're a very good driver)

Things you Own
Social Status (Poverty Wages / Medium Wages / Rich Wages - see the Advantages section)

Now you said:
well, my powers are all the ones everyone would want, ability to fly, invisibility, ability to drive a car without crashing into the wall, immunity against disease (and anything else dangerous) and eternal youth. Not to mention being able to breathe underwater.

ok the first thing we need to do is look at the Skill you have listed. You said you want to be able to drive a car without crashing into a wall.

This is a normal skill that everyone with a Medium Education should have :D

So because you have a medium education, and are probably a character from the 20th century (or beyond) you know how to drive a car :D So if you notice, I put Drive a Car in your skill's section.

Now let's look at your superpowers:
1. ability to fly
2. invisibility
3. immunity against disease (and anything else dangerous)
4. eternal youth
5. breathe underwater.

All these powers will be kind of expensive, because you have SOOOOOOO Many powers, You need some Drawbacks to make them cheap :D

"What do you mean by drawbacks, Kevin?"

I'll tell you what I mean. A drawback is something you make up for your character. For instance. you said you want eternal youth! For a human, this is an expensive power. But for a Robot, it would be normal. IF you gain the Robot Drawback, then you are automatically Eternally Youthful. But, when you assign a drawback you need to decide how SEVERE it is.
If you are a Robot who looks very human, or are a robot in a world that accepts robots, then you only get a Low Drawback.
If you are a Robot who looks only somewhat human, or are a robot in a world that doesn't really accept robots, then it is a Medium Drawback.
If you are a Robot who barely looks human (such as XJ9 from "Life of a Teenage Robot"), or are a robot in a world that hates robots, then it is a very bad Drawback called the Achilles Heel!!

However, you said you want to breathe underwater so you're probably not a robot right?

There are other ways you can go too. For instance, the soul reapers in the cartoon BLEACH are almost always forever youthful and immune to disease. But, they have a drawback - They can't be seen by normal people unless they are in a special body. This can cause them major problems.

People like from the movie "Highlander" have a major drawback - many people do not trust "Highlanders". As such, they have been driven out of towns, and they must keep their real identity a secret! They are also immune to disease.

Anyway, you have to tell me more about your character before we can proceed. But you have a good handle on who you want to be!

Also, are you a regular superhero? Do you have a secret identity? That's a drawback as well!

How rich is your character?

Does your character have a dark past or is your character upset about your past?

Finally, How strong, smart, and spiritually powerful is your character? We need to fill out your character stats.

Physical
Mental
Spiritual

Remember, you can gain a drawback to gain more points for your stats.

You have 12 points you can divide any way you see fit among your three stats.

A score of 4 is "Average Human"

So an average person would look like this:

Physical 4
Mental 4
Spiritual 4

A bank robber might look like this:

Physical 6
Mental 3
Spiritual 3

A superhero like Nightwing (the original Robin, from the Dynamic Team of Batman and Robin) might look like this:

Physical 9
Mental 9
Spiritual 6
(he'd have gotten 12 extra points from Drawbacks such as : Achilles Heel -Witnessing both his father being murdered. Achilles Heel - Witnessing his mother being murdered <= which would've given him 16 points, but he spent 4 points on something else.)

IF these points confuse you then just type it like this:

Physical : are you Super Strong? Very Strong? Medium Strong? Average Strong? or weak?
Mental : are you Super Smart (super fast computer)? Very Smart (einstein)? Medium Smart (a rocket scientist)? Average Smart (college grad)? or kinda slow?
Spiritual : are you super powerful (Yoda)? very powerful (Obi-Wan Kenobi/astro boy)? medium powerful ( Luke in Empire Strike's Back)? average Powerful (Luke or Han Solo in Star Wars)? or kinda weak spirited (someone who doesn't use their spirit or believe in it at all).

Maybe this will help you out :D

Marshmallow - October 21, 2007 04:49 PM (GMT)
I will show you guys how to make characters by making my own character when I get back from eating breakfast, ok? :D

DoctorWhoArtist - October 21, 2007 05:30 PM (GMT)
... okay, I'll play, but I am SO making another one for us creative ones who only need one sentence to write off of. Kay?

Marshmallow - October 21, 2007 08:41 PM (GMT)
^_^

Oh and guys I can't make a char right now I need to rest, not feelin so good. bbl ^_^

Marshmallow - October 22, 2007 12:44 AM (GMT)
Ok Guys, as I promised, here is a character I'm making just to help you learn :D

G.I.R.
G<something> Information Retrieval

Background: This robot, with many attachments and attachment ports (this is a medium advantage), is a bizarre, dimented creature (achille's heel), who will disobey orders (achille's heel), and suffer mass delusions/hallucinations (achille's heel). Should any of these programming issues be "corrected" he acts upon his mission parameters with an extremely fatal obsession - this obsession gives him a noticeable tick in his left eye, and will eventually cause him to outright disobey any order given should the order be seen as an obstruction to his mission in anyway possible. (this is a failsafe to make sure the achille's heel is not overridden).
G.I.R. is also very stupid (Low Educated High Physical background)
G.I.R. is very strong, and has the capacity to be indestructible (provided he doesn't self-destruct). This basically means he can always be repaired. this is a High Advantage (Strong Power).

1. Medium Advantage (Gadgets)
Points Spent ................................................................................8 (+10 to a roll to determine if he has the gadget).

1. High Advantage (Strong Power - Indestructibility)........................12 (2 points of Indestructibility. Multiplies his Physical stat by 2 against any attempt to dismantle or completely destroy him).

3. Achille's Heels bizarre/demented, disobey orders, suffer mass delusions/hallucinations.
Points Gained...............................................................................24

Low Educated/High Physical Background + 3 general education + 7 physical skills or advantages.
***I am allocating + 6 from the Low Education High Physical Skills Background + 6 more from Drawbacks to purchasing his power.

Total Points already allocated:
+ 8
+ 6***
-24
------

10 points left to allocate anywhere.
1 point left to spend on physical skills.
3 points in General Education.

Character Sheet-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Name: G.I.R.
Age: Unknown
Sex: Male Programming
Weight: 80 Pounds
Height: 3' (I think)

He likes to think he has a secret and public identity, by putting on or taking off his Green Dog Monster costume. But only people with a mental of 2 or less can be fooled by this change.

Education : 3 points
He knows basic grammar school, or well, he acts like it. Apparently he knows computer programming, however this tends to represent itself as a high Spiritual/Power rating more than anything, as he doesn't exactly program so much as his deranged will overpowers any electronics with which he comes in contact.
He loves to Dance, watch The Scary Monkey Show, and his rubber Piggy and Moosey.

Physical :
1 Known Skill - a combat technique called "What's this do!?" basically he starts pressing all kinds of buttons until the item he's messing with breaks and falls apart.

Disadvantages:
He has 3. Achille's Heels bizarre/demented, disobey orders, suffer mass delusions/hallucinations.
Points Gained...............................................................................24
Points gained from Disadvantages: 24

Advantages:

Points spent on advantages: 20 total.

Powers: Strong Power - Indestructibility Multiply his Physical Stat by 2 points against any attempt to dismantle or completely destroy him.

Stats (22 Points to allocate):
Physical 10
Mental 2
Spiritual/Power 10

Populace Karma... 0
Personal Karma.... 0

Skills:
He can interface with any known computer system through any one of his various ports.
He likes to think he is a good disguise artist (notice his green Dog Monster costume), but his disguise is only good enough to fool those as stupid or stupider than he is.
He can cook waffles and pancakes.
He's a kick butt dancer and very popular at the dancing scene: user posted image

Things G.I.R. Owns:
A rubber Piggy
A rubber Moosey

Potato - October 22, 2007 05:58 AM (GMT)
*fart* can you just make my character for me (and make up a nameż)

Marshmallow - October 22, 2007 06:02 AM (GMT)
:sigh: potato, I really wish you'd tell me exactly what you want as a character - what would you like to rp as ^_^ is it a she or a he, is it a robot, an alien, a human, a super hero? what do you want? :D

Potato - October 22, 2007 08:04 AM (GMT)
I'd like it to be a robot who looks like an 8 year old girl.

and the character has to have a form of transport (like a hover disc or something) when the ability to fly has been taken away by enemies.

:cowsleep:

Marshmallow - October 22, 2007 04:02 PM (GMT)
Ok potato I am going to add some disadvantages/drawbacks for you ok? :)

Name: Potato's Character!
Age: She Looks like she's 8 Years Old
Sex: Girl
Weight: Unknown
Height: 8 year old girl height
Initial Points: 12

Background:
Points gained from Background
Medium Educated Medium Physical background - pretty much what an average schoolkid or college student is today: You get 5 points in general knowledge, and you can claim (make up) 5 different types of combat or physical oriented skills or advantages.
General Knowledge: 5 Points
Physical/Advantages/Combat: 5 Points

Disadvantages:
Potato is just your average 8 year old girl, if your average 8 year old girl was a ROBOT MADE TO SAVE THE WORLD!
[color=red]In her down time, Potato has to go to school, and do her homework (Achille's Heel - 8 years old)
, and whatever other gilrie things 8 year old girls like to do. But when Duty Calls, that's when it's her time to shine!
Even so, Potato can't be active for too long doing too many things! Otherwise her power cells drain too fast! Every 16 hours of normal use (some crime fighting, some playing), Potato has to recharge (Achille's Heel - Power Source).
Potato is afraid of the water because not only can she not be able to swim (she sinks like a rock if she doesn't have enough power to start her booster engines), but water has a chance to short out her circuits and cause rust! (Achille's Heel - Water Damage)

Points gained from Disadvantages: 24

Disadvantages list: 8 years old. Power Source. Water Damage. All three Achille's Heels.

Power Source Point System.
This point system determines how fast Potato's Power Drains.
Points...... 960
Each minute of normal operation costs 1 point.
Each minute of exertion (using a special power) costs 2 points.
Straining yourself (using all your special powers at once and at maximum power) costs 4 points.
When Potato reaches 0 points she shuts down!

Advantages:
1. High Advantage (Strong Power - Invisibility) - Cost 12 Points. Turns completely invisible. 2 Points in Invisibility. 2 x Mental against any attempt to detect Potato while she is invisible!

1. High Advantage (Strong Power - Ability to Fly) - Cost 12 Points. Allows Potato to fly very fast! 2 points in Flight. Has 2 points in Flight. 2 x Physical against any attempt to catch Potato while flying!

Points spent on advantages: 24

Powers:
Invisibility. Multiply Mental stat by 2 against any attempt at detection.
Flight. Multiply Physical stat by 2 against any attempt to catch her while flying.

Stats: 12 Points + 4
Physical 8
Mental 4
Spiritual/Power 4

Populace Karma
Personal Karma

Skills:
General Knowledge: 5 Points.
Skill 1: Drive a Car (you're a very good driver)

Things Potato Owns:
A few toys/built in videogame system.

Social Status : School Girl

Because you are a robot, potato, these three things are naturally assumed:

1. immunity against disease (and anything else dangerous)
2. eternal youth
3. breathe underwater.

Plus you don't need to eat :D
