"So what are we to do now?" Angelique asks Gaberiel.

Before he can answer there is a knock on the door. Rising, Gaberiel says, "Hold that thought my dear." As he goes to see who is at the door. Opening it, he smiles at the young boy standing before him, a package in his hand.

"This come for you sir." The young boy says, handing the package to Gaberiel. Gaberiel takes it and thanks the young boy for his good service, giving him a sizeable tip. The boy grins happily, "Thank you sir." He says and turns running down the stairs. Gaberiel laughs as he can hear the boy telling his father, the innkeeper, about his tip.

"What is it?" Angelique asks

Gaberiel shrugs his shoulders, "I don't know. It's from my solicitor, so it could be anything." He says as he opens up the package. Inside lays an old leatherbound journal, it's leather cracked with age and most of it's pages destroyed by what appeared to be fire. On the front is gold lettering with the name Mikhail Vorhis. Carefully Gaberiel takes the journal out of the box and opens it. "It appears to be a journal. Only one page is still legible."

A strange look comes over Gaberiel's face as he reads that page. Angelique goes to him, laying a hand on his shoulder, "What is wrong Gaberiel? You look as if you've seen a ghost." She says jokingly, trying to lighten Gaberiel's suddenly dark mood.

"If this journal is authentic, I think I've finally learned who and where the vampire that sired me is." Gaberiel says evenly, not quite sure how he felt about all of this. He had looked for so long, and never even had found a clue. Now in one fell swoop, he learns the identity and location of his sire. "But I think it answers your question."

"You don't mean..." She says, but before she can finish her sentence Gaberiel finishes it for her.

"We go to Atlana. I've never been there and we've nothing holding us here. I have the means to do so and it is what I wish to do. Will you accompany me?" Gaberiel asks.

Smiling warmly at him, "Atlana it is. Do you mind if I see it?" She asks gesturing towards the journal.

"Of course not my dear." Gaberiel says handing her the journal gently.

After Angelique reads it she hands it back to him. "So when do you wish to leave?" She questions.

"Well as soon as we can. We'll need to do a bit of shopping, and I've a few matters to attend to, and find a ship to charter...." He pauses for a moment thinking, "I'd say we could be ready by the end of the week. Does that work for you?"

"That is fine, I've nothing to keep me here any long." Angelique says sadly.

Rayak leaves the building, grumbling something about Ruby and her bossy attitude. The young girl had taken ill only the night before and now Rayak is being forced to retrieve some medicine for her. Heero had mysteriously stepped out only a few hours before, but Rayak has a feeling that the werewolf wished to avoid making any errands for Ruby.

So, Rayak is now fully agitated and in desperate need of a target to exert his rage onto. Sadly, there do not seem to be any muggers or thieves out in the daylight hours, the time in which the ancient vampire is stuck travelling in.

Rayak stays with the shadows of the buildings, not wishing to be noticed by the townsfolk too much and wanting also to avoid any chance of being slightly scorched. It isn't as though the sun would ever actually engulf the vampire in flames, but lately Rayak has not been feeling as strong as before.

It's probably due to my change in diet. I always took blood from helpless victims and anyone I felt like, but now I am only drinking from the vile humans that pray on the innocent. I truly am pathetic.

Rayak passes by a few stalls with mortals trying to sell fish and other food products, before he comes to a stop at the doctor's building. He pushes the oak door open and steps inside, thankful for some reprieve from the sunlight outside. Within the building are many racks containing medicine and a desk at the very end with a person serving an old lady. To the right of the desk is a door, which Rayak can only assume leads to the main surgical area. The entire place reaks of dead humans and herbs.

The ancient vampire crinkles his nose in disgust, but forces his senses to slacken so that he can reach the front desk without collapsing. The old lady pushes past him and Rayak stumbles slightly from the sheer force of the shove. He almost topples into a rack behind him, which has a lot of expensive looking jars on it, but he rights his footing and glares at the hag's back as she exits.

The man at the counter clears his throat and Rayak strolls all the way up to the desk and shoves a piece of paper under the mortal's nose, "I need this thing on the paper. Do you have any?"

The man picks the paper up and pushes the glasses further up his nose, "I think we do sir...who's the one afflicted?"

"How will that affect anything?"

He clears his throat again, "It would affect the strength of the medicine that I can give you sir."

Rayak folds his arms in annoyance, "She's some stupid, selfish girl. Does that help at all?"

The man pushes his glasses back up again, "I see. Then a small does should be all that is needed. If you'll wait one minute I'll get the bottle."

The man walks off and starts to sift through the different bottles on the racks. One minute becomes two minutes. Two becomes five and before long Rayak's temper starts to flare up again. After the tenth minute ticks by, the man heads back to the counter with the bottle which was actually only the second one on the rack.

He once more pushes the glasses back up his nose, clearing his throat at the same time. Before he speaks Rayak glares at him angrily, "If you do either of those irritating habits again, I will personally see to it that you never have the energy to even walk."

The man nods and hands Rayak the medicine, forgetting to even ask for a payment in the process.

With a smirk, the ancient vampire strides out of the shop and makes a speedy retreat back to the shadows. While he does so, he doesn't see the small form in front of him until he crashes into it. He growls and stands up, ready to yell at the stupid person who caused him to fall, "Watch where you're going, fool! Don't you have eyes?!"

The person in front of him is not what he expected to see when he looked though. Still sprawled on the floor is a young woman with dark hair, and an aura that makes Rayak think twice before yelling any further at her. In stead he just swiftly walks away, not even glancing back to make certain she is fine.

Whoever that was...she intrigues me and troubles me...

He makes a mad dash for the house he, Ruby and Heero share, but not before he collides with yet another person, dropping the bottle of medicine in the process. This time he knows instantly who he hit, "Gaberiel?!"

"Rayak! Why how are you?" Gaberiel asks, as he bends down to pick up the bottle Rayak dropped and glancing at it hands it back to him. "Who is ill?" He questions.

"You could watch where you are going you know." Rayak says snidley. "It is for that Ruby. The girl has fallen ill, and that Heero took off making it a necessity that I run errands for a little slip of a girl." Rayak says indignantly. "What are you still doing in town? I thought you and Angelique left right after the battle." Rayak questions.

"We are staying in an inn on the other side of town. We will be setting sail for Atlana tomorrow evening." Gaberiel informs him.

"Isn't that going to be an awful risky venture? How do you plan to hide from everyone during the day? How do you plan to feed?" Rayak questions with some sarcasm.

"Not at all. I merely chartered a ship to take us. We will have the whole ship to ourselves with a minimum of crew necessary to run it. As for feeding, you do know that ones as old as we are can survive quite some time without feeding if we are uninjured. But that shouldn't really be an issue. We will have no cargo on board so we should make excellent time. Well I must be on my way, Angelique is waiting for me. Please tell Ruby and Heero where we are at, the inn is the Lions Head and we'd like to say goodbye before we leave." Gaberiel says turning to head back to the inn.

"What am I a messenger too? But the Lions Head is one of the nicest inns in town, maybe I will deliver this message. It seems Gaberiel has more money than I thought." Rayak mumbles to himself as he hurries back to the safety of his room.

Back at the inn that Ruby, Rayak and Heero are in....

"Jeez! What the heck is taking that idiot so long? I sent him out for that medicine more than an hour ago!"

Apparently, the illness had not lessened Ruby's attitude. The door to the room opens and someone comes in.

"It's about time! How long did you plan on taking? I'm gonna kill you for making me-" She stops as she sees that Heero is the one entering. "Oh, it's just you. What do you want?"

Heero stays as far as he can from the girl in the bed and brings a box out of his backpack. "I found this while I was out. I thought you might like it." He throws it over to Ruby and leaves the room.

She looks down at it and opens it. Inside is a vial of some sort of liquid. 'What the heck is this thing?' She opens it and takes a whiff. 'Well, it doesn't smell like poison, so I guess that it isn't.' She has a sip. 'Doesn't taste like poison either. I guess that kid isn't trying to kill me then....wait a sec.....what's that feeling?' Instantly she gets up and rushes to the bathroom.

Five minutes later.....

'I'm gonna kill him......after I stop puking my guts out....'

Downstairs, Heero was sitting in a corner waiting for Rayak's great return. A few of the guests walk by, talking to each other about their lives, completely oblivious to the things in the world that could take their lives away in an instant. 'Sometimes I envy them. If only they knew about the creatures of darkness, then they'd talk about other things.'

Heero looks out of the nearby window and sees the sun setting. 'What could be taking him so long? She's going to go ballistic on him when he gets back.'

He shivers for no reason and feels cold, even though it's quite warm in the room.

'That's odd.'

As Rayak enters his current 'home' he feels the tension thick in the air, like some ominous cloak of impending doom. It's then that he realises the time. He has been out of the house for a good two hours and the afternoon is quickly starting to sink in.

The vampire takes the stairs at a leap and then strides swiftly to the room that Ruby is being kept inside. He carefully opens the door and sees that the girl is not in the bed like he had assumed. He steps hesitantly into the room and focuses his senses to try and smell for her. That's when he picks up on something so foul that he covers his nose with his hands in an attempt to mask the smell. No such luck.

He proceeds to where the vile stench is radiating from and comes to a stop outside the bathroom door, where a torrent of retching and curse words are streaming from within.

The ancient vampire clears his throat and knocks on the door, "Ruby..? Are you in there?"

A muffled "bugger off!" is his only response, so he assumes that his guess was correct.

He knocks again and calls a little louder and more harshly than before, "I have your medicine Ruby, so if you don't come out right now I'll throw it away!"

The boisterous girl yanks the bathroom door open and snatches the bottle out of Rayak's pale hand before he can even comprehend her actions, and then she slams it shut in his face.

Growling angrily about annoying girls, Rayak trudges back downstairs and only then takes Heero's pale form sat a chair. He approaches the werewolf and takes a seat next to him, massaging his temples to stem the on-coming headache.

"What took you so long Rayak? I thought she was going to kill me if you didn't get back."

The pale-haired vampire catches the panic in Heero's voice and laughs at the boy, "You were afraid of her? How pathetic are you?" He only gets a glare for a response. "Forget it. Look, it's nearly sunset and I will need to go out once again. I probably won't be back until sunrise with the poor luck I've had lately. There don't appear to be many villainous folk left in this town. I don't know how I'll fare if I don't find one tonight."

Heero makes no comment and Rayak just remains sat in the chair, watching the different kinds of people flocking to-and-from their rooms. He sighs when he recalls the new information he has to give to Heero and Ruby, "Before I conveniently forget, I met Gaberiel earlier today."

At once Heero perks up, "Where? How? Did he say anything to you?"

His brown eyes flick to the boy's own and then he stares out the window in the bright room, "I just near-collided with the fool on my way back here. He told me that he wishes to say goodbye to us all before he and his wench set off for bigger and better places tomorrow evening. So I advise you to go and see them while it's still light tomorrow. He said something about traveling to Atlana, the vampire homeland."

"Isn't that dangerous? How's he going to even get there?"

"I too thought those things, but Gaberiel assured me that he and Angelique knew what they would be getting into and that he had acquired passage on a boat in the evening. I would love to join them of course...but I lack the funding to do so."

Heero stayed silent while he thought over the new information and then he stood and went to tell Ruby the news. Which meant that Rayak would be by himself once more.

I do so hate it when they go away all the time. I can tell even now that I unsettle them both at times. They probably fear the day that I choose to kill innocents again, or if I were to not locate a wicked soul to drink from before I returned back to them. I have no doubts that I would probably attack them if the need arose...it isn't like I've never done such a thing before...

As the night came swiftly upon the townsfolk, Rayak exited the quiet inn and began his search for a twisted victim to prey upon.

A scream off to his right alerts him to yet another attack on a young human girl, so he dashes to where he can smell the fear the strongest.

What he finds is a young woman with long blonde hair, trying to defend herself from a drunken older man. The man attacking her doesn't feel evil or wicked to Rayak; he just wreaks of ale. Still, the woman is in some form of peril and Rayak decides that he'll be chivalrous for once in his unnaturally long life.

"I suggest that you leave her alone before I make you."

The drunk moves away from the woman for a moment, while she continues to cry and whimper. In his hand is a bottle of half-drunken ale, just as Rayak predicted there would be.

"What can you do to me kid? You look so scrawny! Run on home to your mum brat! This wench here was being a tease back in the pub, so she's getting only what she deserves!"

The words sounded slightly slurred, so Rayak had no doubts that the man would not know what he was saying or doing come the morning. In other words, this man was an innocent when compared with the lowlifes the vampire had eaten before.

He couldn't kill him.

But he needed to have some fresh blood or he'd probably eat Ruby or Heero during the night.

The man turned back to the frightened woman and smashed the bottle against the wall he had her cornered against. Rayak moved before anything else could take place, kicking the drunkard in the back and knocking him unconscious instantly.

In the process of doing so, however, the broken bottle slipped from the man's hand and smashed on the wall, creating small cuts on the woman's flesh. Tiny trails of blood oozed forth from the wounds and Rayak had to force his eyes away so he wouldn't give in to his cravings.

Unfortunately, luck was never on the vampire's side and the woman threw herself on his black-coated form and began to weep about how glad she was that he had shown up.

With his remaining pieces of rationality, Rayak pushed the woman away in anger, yelling, "Get off me wench!"

She seemed shocked and took a step closer to his pale body, but that step was what sealed her doom.

Rayak hadn't had a proper meal in a long time - killing wicked people was not the same as drinking the blood of an innocent human being. His eyes clouded over, taking on a deep red tint and he wrenched the woman's kneck to one side to have a better access at her kneck.

The ancient vampire - now consumed with his dark, blood cravings - sunk his gleaming fangs into the flesh of the petrified woman and greedily drank her life essence, her blood.

When he had finished, he dropped her to the floor in shock and disgust at his own actions. He turned his head away from the corpse - when before he would have reveled in the death - and his eyes widened in alarm when he saw the young woman from before. The one who had fallen over after walking into him. The one who had given him an uneasy feeling.

Only now she was holding a bow, which she pointed at his heart.

Lenne strolled down one of the main streets of Laurennon deep in thought. Night had already fallen, but that didn't bother her. On the contrary she preferred the dark. The irony that those she hunted preferred it too did not escape her. Yet she displayed no feelings of anxiousness, confident in her ability to defend herself.

As she rounded the next corner, a scream harshly cut through her train of thought causing her to spin around to her left instinctively. She clutched her bow and sprinted off down the dark street cursing her luck.

Lenne came to a halt at the end of another street, staring at the scene before her. A woman was being threatened by a drunken older man and the young man who had rudely knocked her over earlier that day was attempting to break it up.

She heard the sound of glass breaking and as she watched, the young man with the pale hair knocked the intoxicated older man unconscious with barely any effort. Surprise flitted across her features as she noted this. She felt that she had been far to preoccupied recently and sensed that she was missing something. Something important.

She shrugged the uneasiness away and started back down the street, annoyed at the intrusion. That was until she heard an angry shout and looked back automatically.

Horrified, she stood frozen in shock staring at the sight in front of her. As she saw the blood being drained out of the woman who had been very much alive a moment ago only one word seemed to penetrate her still stunned mind.

Vampire!

That word seemed to force her body into action. Silently she moved closer to the vampire who was so intent on his victim. Once she was in range she fitted an arrow into the bow string and pulled it taut. She only had seconds until the vampire realised she was there.

Too late!

Shocked crimson eyes met her own. They took her by surprise but she knew she couldn't hesitate even for a second. Brushing aside her momentary confusion, she let the arrow fly straight towards its target.

Unfortunately the vampire seemed to come to his senses just before the arrow hit so instead of it plunging straight into his heart, it struck his right shoulder. Irritated, the vampire glanced at the arrow embedded in his shoulder before facing her.

Lenne drew her sword, catching sight of the woman behind her as she did so. An overwhelming surge of emotion threatened to overcome her as that deathly pale face triggered memories of one night long ago.

No! Lenne thought trying to stop the onslaught of memories that flooded through her brain. The memories she had desperately tried to forget.

As a range of different emotions flashed across her face she wondered vaguely why the vampire hadn't attacked yet. Remembering the vampire caused her to settle for anger and she looked up, surprised to see he hadn't moved an inch.

Lenne wasn't sure what expression was on his face as she charged at him, nor did she care. All that mattered was that he was a vampire and in her mind that linked him to her family's deaths. The whole reason she hunted vampires was because they'd murdered her family.

Lenne swung at the vampire with her sword angrily but he dodged due to his superior speed. Before Lenne had a chance to react, she was knocked sideways into a wall and dazedly stared at the figure a few feet away. A mixture of anger and irritation was written across his face as he glared at her.

"Worthless mortal" he sneered and disappeared down the street, his outline quickly fading into the darkness.

Lenne sat in a confused silence for a few seconds questioning her memory for she was sure no vampire would just leave her alive. She had never made so many mistakes and felt embarrassed and shocked at how badly she had messed up. Normally the cost would have been her life yet she was still alive.

Lenne glanced in the direction the vampire had gone. Anger bubbled in the pit of her stomach and she tried her best to force it down. She couldn't follow him now, not like this. She would have to ask about in that general direction first thing in the morning. This was something she could not ignore.

Back in Gaberiel and Angelique's Room

Gaberiel opens the door entering the room quietly in hopes of not disturbing Angelique. He sees however, that she is sitting up at the window staring off into space. Turning to him she says, "Good evening Gaberiel. Did you manage to get things set for our voyage?"

"Yes I have." Gaberiel answers. "I also ran into our friend Rayak. It seems he was on an errand to get Ruby some medicine as she has fallen ill."

"Oh no, is she going to be ok?" Angelique asks with worry in her voice. She had come to like the young Ruby for her spunkiness.

"Most likely. I'd say she just come down with a small bug. The medicine Rayak had will make her feel worse for a while, but it should set her to rights rather quickly. Don't worry, I'm sure she will be fine in no time." Gabriel says with a smile. "I also told him where we were staying and that we were going on a voyage, so maybe Heero or Ruby will stop by later tonight to bid us farewell." He adds.

"Oh I'd like that very much. I shall miss those two." Angelique says wistfully.

"What, you won't miss Rayak?" Gaberiel says with a chuckle.

"Actually, yes I will. Even though he can anger me like no other, I have a feeling he wants to be better than he is. The problem is that no one has ever taken the time with him." Angelique answers truthfully.

"I think you are right. He was turned against his will at a very young age and had no guidance with the ways of an honorable vampire. I have hopes that they will come here as I'd like them to come with us on our journey. If nothing else to teach Rayak the way to do things properly. I sense that he wants that very much, but he is just too proud to ask for the help." Gaberiel replies. "Now why don't you tell me why you look so sad."

Angelique looks at him and smiles wanly, "Well I guess it's just I'm feeling kind of lost. I miss father horribly and wonder what he would say if he could see me now. If what I've become would make him turn in horror or if he'd be able to accept it. Plus as I said, I miss our traveling companions."

"If what you said of your father is accurate, I believe he would have no problem with what you've become. He is looking down on you and knows your true heart and can see that you are still his fabulous daughter." Gaberiel says with ease.

"I hope you are right." Angelique responds and stares out the window once again, lost in thought once again. Gaberiel comes to stand behind her and places a hand on her shoulder to comfort her.

"I am right." He says easily. "Looks like you may get your wish to say farewell Angelique. I can't be certain, but that looked like Heero, Rayak and Ruby entering the Inn."

Heero, Rayak and a very irritated looking Ruby enter the inn that Gaberiel and Angelique are staying in and sit down on some chairs in the main lobby. Rayak begins to fidget and Ruby and Heero give him a weird look, before paying attention to their own thoughts.

'I wonder how I can get him back for what he put me through?' Ruby tries to think of a way to get revenge on the "healing" drink she was given earlier. 'What wouldn't he expect?'

'I wonder how they're going to get there? By ship obviously, but which one and how are they going to make sure that they don't get discovered?' Heero loses himself in his thoughts and doesn't notice that the people he's thinking about are standing in front of them.

Rayak notices and immediately gets up, a scowl on his face upon seeing Angelique. She also has a scowl on her face at seeing him. Ruby stands and hugs her in greeting. "It's so great to see you again! I've missed you guys sooo much! I know it hasn't been very long at all, but I just couldn't stand it!"

The female vampire smiles. "It's nice to see you again also Ruby. It has been dull without you." Rayak begins to fidget again. A questioning look appears on her face and she looks to Ruby for an answer.

"Don't ask me. He's been like that for a while now. Kinda getting on my nerves too." Ruby notices that the other person to their little group has not yet said anything. She takes a look behind her and sees that the wolf-boy is still lost in thought over something. She kicks him in the shin to get his attention. He stands immediately and bows.

"I'm sorry. Please forgive me. I wasn't paying attention." Gaberiel and Angelique share a look, and then begin to laugh. He raises his head. "Did I say something wrong?"

Gaberiel shakes his head and stops laughing. "No, not at all. It is quite alright. I understand if you want to spend time thinking about things. That's how things get done. With thought. If no-one stopped to think, why everything would go to ruin."

Everyone looks at him, confused. Ruby begins to drag Angelique over to one side to discuss girl-things. At least, that's what the guys thought to themselves. They dared not say it out loud, for fear of their wrath.

Rayak sits back down and finally stops fidgeting. Gaberiel gestures for Heero to follow him outside and closes the door behind them. He looks back to the inn, before beginning his questions.

"Heero, you have noticed Rayak's odd behaviour have you not?"

The boy looks to the ground for a bit before answering. "I have noticed, but I do not wish to say anything of it. I don't want Ruby to worry about it. If she knew, she would probably run from here, which might cause her to get hurt by some random bandits or something like that."

Gaberiel nods. "Yes. I see what you mean. She would not take it well. I've noticed that she is still wary of being around you. Rayak feeding on innocents would not help the situation at all."

At that moment, Ruby comes out. "Hey! What the heck are you two doing out here? We're all back in there, so move it inside!" They hesitate. "NOW!"

In a swiftness that is unique to supernatural creatures such as themselves, they leg it back inside before she has the time to repeat the order. Ruby does a little twirl and follows behind them, smirking the whole time.

From a nearby alley, a pair of eyes catch the lanterns nearby. "This could be most useful......." The eyes vanish into the darkness again.

Rayak's nervousness around Gaberiel and Angelique lessens when both vampires move away from him, but he still cannot shake the feeling that at least one of them knows what he did.

I still cannot believe that I had done that, when I had tried so hard to stop taking the lives of innocents. It's impossible for me to do that! I'm such a pathetic fool! I don't even deserve to exist for as long as I have.

At that moment Ruby leaves the room and yells for Gaberiel and Heero to get back inside. Angelique walks back over to the seats and Rayak resigns himself to his fate: forever worrying about what they would think of him.

Once everyone is seated, Gaberiel proceeds to explain where he and Angelique are heading and what they plan to do. Rayak chooses to tune them out while he sorts out his own thoughts.

Why did I lose control so easily? Am I just a monster after all? And who was that girl?

Rayak stops his train of thought when he feels eyes on him and everyone has stopped talking. Since he had no idea what they were talking about, he just raises his head and glares at the others, "Cease staring at me fools."

Angelique, ever the hot-tempered person where Rayak is concerned, snaps back at the pale-haired vampire, "Maybe if you payed more attention to others rather than your own ego, we wouldn't be staring in the first place!"

Before anything serious can occur, Gaberiel cuts in, "Rayak, we merely asked you if you would consider accompanying us to Atlana. We already asked Heero and Ruby, who readily consented."

Atlana is the home land of the oldest vampires...maybe I could learn something if I went?

"Of course I will go. I would have to be completely stupid to say otherwise."

Gaberiel smiles in relief, "Excellent."

The conversation continues again, with more talk of the plans to leave and Heero and Ruby discuss what they will need to bring. Rayak once more ignores what they're saying, feeling as though his input would not be needed anymore.

Maybe I should tell them about that girl? No, there seems to be little point. She isn't a threat and I survived an encounter with her easily enough, even if my shoulder is a little sore still...

Unconsciously, Rayak rubs the shoulder where that girl's arrow had been embedded. It wasn't fully healed because to achieve that, the vampire would have needed to drain the blood of another human. Honestly, Rayak didn't trust himself to do such a thing anymore. For all he knows he could lose it one day and take Ruby's life.

Angelique notices Rayak rubbing his injury and at once becomes curious and slightly suspicious, "Something the matter Rayak? You've been very twitchy since you entered this inn."

The ancient vampire scoffs at her words, scared at how much she and the others had noticed, "Nothing is wrong, woman. And even if there was, what makes you certain that I would tell you?"

"I was only asking a question, you arrogant pig!"

"Yes, well...in future save your questions for someone who actually wants them."

And with that, Rayak abruptly stands up and storms outside the inn, intent to get away from the others until he can get his nerves under control.

A couple of hours after sunset, Lenne trundles down yet another street at a loss as to where the elusive vampire is hiding. Her plan from last night appears weak and pathetic now and she wonders if searching is a wasted effort.

Lenne casts her mind back to earlier when she searched what felt like every street but really she's not surprised she found nothing. She has little idea of where to look or what kind of place he stayed in. She knows that the idea was bad from the beginning but barely acknowledges the real reason she didn't follow him the previous evening. She cannot be consumed by anger or fear.

Lenne finally loses patience and sets herself on an empty crate, having found that her wanderings have led her to the docks. She stares out at the ocean watching the reflections dance across the surface of the water.

"Are you alright miss?" asks an unfamiliar voice behind her. Startled, Lenne twists sharply coming face to face with a man in his thirties who wore a concerned look on his face.

"I'm fine thank you" Lenne replies curtly and switches her gaze to the sea once more, a clear sign that the conversation was now closed. However, much to Lenne's irritation the man is not so easily swayed.

"You're not lost are you?" he questions.

"No" she responds, her back still facing him.

"Well, I don't mean to be rude but you don't look alright".

"Don't I?" Lenne says nonchalantly.

"Yes, and if you're-" He stops abruptly, a mixture of surprise and indignation on his face as Lenne darts off. Even in that dim light the familiar tuft of pale hair is unmistakeable. Eagerly, she watches from a distance as the vampire boards a boat along with a group of strangers, little more than shadows from where she is standing.

When the group are out of sight, Lenne edges towards the boat wondering all the while what to do. By the sound of it the boat is almost ready to cast off so she has to decide now.

This is stupid. I don't know where they are headed and for all I know the whole group could be vampires. On the other hand the vampire could be planning to kill a bunch of innocent people. I don't know what to think!

A couple of minutes pass before Lenne reaches her decision. She cannot abandon so many people if they are going to be slaughtered by that monster and as for them all being vampires that would be very unlikely.

Talk about an overactive imagination. Possibly there are two vampires at the worst. I don't know what I'm worrying about!

Lenne tries to reassure herself as she stealthily sneaks onto the deck of the boat just as it sets off. She glances back at the fast receding mainland and realises how reckless she has been.

The young woman can't help but feel a little afraid as she scans the area for a suitable place to hide. Crouching behind a barrel is certainly not a good idea for long. Biting her lip with worry, she hopes that she has not just make the worst decision of her life.

Gaberiel opens the door to his and Angelique's stateroom and ushers her in. Angelique looks around, stunned at the opulence of the room. "Wow," she says amazed, "I had no idea we would travel in such luxury. You really are rich aren't you?"

Chuckling a little Gaberiel answers, "As a matter of fact I am. If one has been around as long as I have been it is rather easy to amass a fortune. It only takes the use of ones brains."

"How long do you expect it to take us to reach Atlana?" Angelique asks, changing the subject.

"If the weather is good and we run into no problems it should only take a few days." Gaberiel answers.

"That is good. While I can see that Rayak is trying very hard to change, I don't believe he'd last long before killing one of the crew." Angelique says.

"Yes, I believe you are right. I know he wants to change, yet I fear that he won't. He wants to change because of Jan and when people attempt to change for reasons other than they themselves want to make the change, they rarely are successful. He has to want to change because he wants to, not because it is what Jan would have wanted." Gaberiel says solemnly. "Plus this ocean is littered with small islands. We could easily go to one and take blood from a few animals if needed. Why don't you rest, I'm going to go speak to the Captain. I'll be back soon." He adds.

Out on deck, Ruby looks out into the ocean. She can see the stars in the night sky reflecting off the water and is mesmerised by it all. She doesn't even notice the person that comes up behind her.

"Quite a nice view, isn't it my dear?" She turns and sees a young man dressed in rather wealthy looking clothes standing before her. "Some say that it can take you away into the realm of heaven itself."

Ruby turns back to the ocean. "That sounds soo romantic. I wish that I could experience that." The man moves so that he's standing beside her. "You can." She looks up at him. "All you have to do is die!" He makes to push her over the edge, but is stopped when he's thrown against the wall behind them. He looks up from the ground at his attacker and sees what appears to be a kid.

Said kid lifts him up with one hand and glares at him. "Try that again and you shall be the one to visit the afterlife. Do I make myself clear?" The man nods and the boy releases him. He runs off, leaving Ruby alone with her saviour.

"Did ya have to scare him that much Heero? I really could've handled that myself, you know?" She crosses her arms in annoyance. Heero smirks at her. "Sure. Whatever you say, 'my dear'." He walks off laughing to himself.

'Jerk. He got me again! What's it gonna take for me to get back at that kid?' She gazes at the stars, hoping for an answer. 'Help me out will ya? You guys are supposed to be all knowing right? So give me info already!' Giving up on them, she decides to retire to her room for a while.

Meanwhile, over with Heero....

'Maybe I should've just let her deal with the guy....yeah right. Like I'd do that. It's just not my way to let a girl get hurt by another guy.' He looks behind him and sees Ruby heading off to her room. 'It's rather generous for Gaberiel to have paid for a room for each of us and on this ship of ships no less. He must have more money than I first thought.'

Heero stops walking as he passes some barrels and sniffs the air. 'Odd. That smells like a human. Why would there be someone in a barrel?' He kneels near to them and looks at them closely. 'There isn't anyone in these barrels.....but there was. Where did they go I wonder?'

As Heero is puzzling this, he doesn't notice a girl moving in the shadows behind him. The girl heads in Ruby's direction and vanishes around a corner. Heero stands and continues on his way. 'How odd. Well, if I pick up the scent again, I shall have to ask them myself. I know that they're aboard this ship. It's only a matter of time.'

The wolf-boy decides that he's had enough fun for the night and goes to his room also. Before he enters his room, he looks around, checking for something. 'I could've sworn that I was being watched just now. Since there's no-one there, I guess it's just paranoia.' He closes his door and heads to his bed for some rest. 'I'll ask Gaberiel about it later.'

Lenne watches from the shadows as two figures split and go their separate ways, presumably to their own rooms. One of them she notes was referred to as Heero but as neither of them is the vampire she is searching for she had paid little attention to their conversation.

She vaguely wonders why that man had been running away from where they had stood only a second ago. However if there had been no vampire involved it was of little concern to her.

Thinking that perhaps if she follows one she may find who she's searching for, Lenne slips off after the girl all the while keeping to the shadows. As she rounds the next corner she sees the girl enter one of the private rooms that line the hallway. It is likely that the vampire inhabits one of the other rooms but she has no way of telling which room.

She feels that something isn't right about this. The ship is clearly an expensive one for one thing and she wonders who paid for it. Not for the first time she wonders where it is headed. She questions why the vampire would take a ship with a bunch of humans. Not that it matters much to her. He's still a vampire.

Lenne edges towards a door and places a hand on her sword. She is unsure of how to figure out the right door but maybe she could check all of them anyway.

Lenne sighs and shakes her head.

I just can't attack him on this boat. There are too many people and I'm in the middle of the ocean. If I kill him they might just think I'm a murderer! What would I do then?

As unhappy as Lenne is with this she decides that unless the vampire actually attempts to kill someone, she will wait until they are off the ship. She hopes the journey will not take too long as she is afraid to lower her guard for even a minute.

Knowing that she is unlikely to sleep at all on this ship, she enters the room in which the food is stored. Normally Lenne wouldn't steal food but she has little choice. Guiltily she snatches some from a shelf, intending to devour later and settles down on the roof of a cabin for what looks to be a long night.

Rayak lifts his head slowly and listens to the sound of someone's heartbeat. Someone who happens to be right outside his room. His eyes narrow and he waits while the person remains on the other side of his door. Then suddenly and without warning, the heartbeat fades away and footsteps carry the person off to another part of the ship.

The ancient vampire lets out a sigh and places his head back down on his pillow. It would have been the absolute worst thing if that human had entered his room. His control over his hunger was not at it's best right now. Even if Gaberiel had only hired a small crew for the ship, Rayak could not be nearby any mortal or he would risk exposing them all.

He could not help his cravings, no matter how he tried to quench the thirst. Which is why he had been given a private room so that he did not accidentally drain the life from Ruby or even Heero.

The vampire knew that night was upon the vessel and soon the sun would rise. With a great amount of effort, he sits up on his single bed and brings his knees up to his chest. He props his arms on the top of his knees and rests his head on them.

"I hate just sitting in this...room! It's depressing and boring!"

With a quick glance he takes in all the detail of the shabby little room he was provided with. Since he needed a private one, Gaberiel was unable to give the ancient vampire anything grand or expensive. In stead, Rayak was to remain within a small, 6ft by 6ft square room. The walls were not painted and there was no carpet. The single bed was tatty at best, with dark grey sheets and a white quilt. Overall, this had to be the worst place Rayak had ever had to remain within for a set period of time, but there was nothing he could do about it.

The one feature that impressed the vampire was the small square window the overlooked the ocean and allowed the pale-haired young man to watch the sunrise with a mixture or awe and envy.

"Only one more day of this..." He says in a voice that was not quite his own, as he gazes longingly at the sun that he loved.

The day passes by swiftly, with only one disturbance of Rayak complaining about the "cursed ocean and the blasted, infernal people running about the ship". Other than that, the voyage goes smoothly.

At least they dock at the port in Idona and everyone gets off the ship as quickly as they can. Ruby takes a look around before she spots something in the distance.

"Hey Angelique! There's a weapon smith! Let's go see what they've got!" And with that, the two women leave with smiles on their faces. Gaberiel turns to Rayak and Heero.

"I need to find some information on something, so I shall be heading off in that direction." He points east. "We'll meet up at the nearest inn to the port. Angelique already knows this, so she let Ruby know. I shall see you both later then." He smiles at them. "Make sure Rayak behaves himself Heero." As he leaves, Rayak yells several rude things to him, but he shows no sign of hearing them.

After he's finished, the wolf tunes back in, having also chosen to ignore the outburst. "So where would you like to explore?" The vampire turns to him, a serious look upon his face. "Anywhere except here. There is something I must tell you, but we must not be heard." Heero nods and they move away from the ship.

Back with Ruby and Angelique....

"What do you make of these shoddy things? I think they'd be better off as fence posts." Ruby judges yet another sword at the shop. Angelique walks over to take a look, but doesn't really see the problem. Out of earshot of the smithy, who is beginning to turn red with anger, she whispers to Ruby.

"Back at the dock, shortly after we left the ship, I had the feeling that I was being watched by someone from behind us. I checked, but saw no-one. I'm not sure if it's just me, but I wanted to know you opinion before I started a panic." Ruby looks thoughtful for a second, then shrugs.

"I didn't feel anything. Maybe it was just because you've never been here before? You know? Nerves and stuff." Angelique nods. "Maybe you're right. I don't feel it anymore, so it probably was just me being silly."

Rayak and Heero.....

"I swear to you boy that I was being watched!" Rayak hisses to Heero. "I do not imagine things such as that."

The 'boy' thinks for a few seconds, before he shakes his head. "I'm sure it was nothing. I felt nothing when I left the ship and neither did the others. If someone was watching you, at least one of the others would have noticed it also."

Rayak thinks it through. It was possible that he'd just been a little paranoid and imagined that he'd been watched, but it was also possible that he had been watched. Since the feeling's gone now, he doesn't see a reason to keep going on about it. Heero mentions something about finding that inn, so they know where to go to meet up with the others, but Rayak just points behind the kid. "It's over there. I saw it as we stepped off that infernal vessel."

Heero turns and sees it. 'Well at least we don't have to wander around looking for it.'

"Let's check in. They might have good rooms." Rayak snorts in disbelief. "As if a place such as this can even afford such a thing." They enter the inn and begin the process of checking themselves in.

Meanwhile, with the really angry smithy....

"Well I'm just saying that you could either try harder, or sell them cheaper!!"

"And I'm just saying, that if you do not leave right this instant, I shall have you removed by force!"

"Who's gonna make me? You and your army of 1? Don't make me laugh! I could make better weapons than this and make a nice profit out of them."

"Well if you're so sure of that, why don't you then?!"

"Fine! I will!" A door slams and Angelique is left in the room with the now very, very angry shopkeeper.

"I am truly sorry for my friend's behaviour and if there's any way that I can make it up to you-" Angelique gets cut off before she can finish.

"Keep your trap shut woman. I'm only interested in whether or not that girl can live up to what she says. If she can, then you need not apologise. If she doesn't, then you're gonna buy all of those 'lousy pieces of junk'. You hear me?" She nods rapidly. At that moment, Ruby returns from the back room with a sword in her hand. The smithy gapes at it, not knowing what to say about it. It's the most wonderful weapon that he's ever seen in his life. Ruby smirks and gives a thumbs up to Angelique.

"Ok pal, I've made the promised weapon. Time for you to start apologising to me." Ruby holds up the sword and the blade seems to shimmer in the light. "This is my best work yet. You've got some really good stuff back there. You just don't use it right."

Five seconds later....

"That jerk! He stole my sword and kicked us out! I'm gonna kill him!" Ruby tries to march up to the shop door, but Angelique holds her back and steers her away.

"I'm sure there are more shops that have much better things in them. One man should not be able to ruin your day." She scans the shops and finds a good one. "See there? That one has jewellery in it. I'm sure we could find something nice there, don't you think Ruby?" Ruby doesn't answer, due to the fact that she's already raced into it. The vampire smiles before following her.
