Port Mercer began as a quaint, bustling port on the east coast of Georgia... quaint, besides its tendency to attract the wrong kind of attention. It was common knowledge that the docks, along with various establishments downtown, were infested with pirates. But something drove them out of their safe harbour and the town was left to languish for nearly a century, something the few townsfolk that remembered did not speak of.
Most from the neighbouring cities were still afraid to settle there, even with the pirates long gone. Then came the civil war, bringing it back to life- at a price. The town's strange reputation resurfaced once more, however this time it was from the talk of ghosts instead.
But prosperity was not to shine over Port Mercer forever. It was eventually overshadowed by the neighbouring town of Savannah, and fell into obscurity once more.

Eternity wandered into the books section of Gwendolyn's. In amazement, eyes widened, she scanned all the books and staircases. She'd never seen suge a huge store for just books ! She couldn't even imagine how long it would've taken to stock all the shelves with those heavy books ! Her eyes fell on a familiar figure by one of the shelves. She skipped over, "Hey you !" and embraced her in a hug from behind. "Crazy in here eh ?"

Heels clicking against the wood floor of the cafe, Riley continued deeper into the building, lifting her chin slightly with obvious determination. She had absolutely nothing to feel determined about, nothing to really do, and the realization, the truth of the matter, was beginning to grate against her final nerve. How could she have nothing to do? She'd always had something out there to occupy herself with. Always had work to do or tests to study for. A room to organize... Yet there was nothing now. One mistake and it was entirely over, her life left in shambles. Glancing briefly over the two girls, raising an eyebrow in slight surprise before stepping forward to glance over a selection of novels.

Amaya stumbled back into the book section. She found herself coming back from more. She loved this place more then words could express. Sadly it was one of her only friends in this town, ever since she rolled in. She walked over to a well known area of books she had piled on the floor. She placed the one in her hand back on the shelf. Bends down to read the labels on the books. Trying to figure out which one was next on her list.

"For sure," she said as her eyes focused on the novels on the shelf. Stephenie Meyer... Stephenie Meyer... Ah here we are. She gently removed one of the books from the shelf and began reading the back. "I keep being told to read the Twilight series. Ever heard of it?", still scanning the back. There wasn't much to read. It was just a short quote from the book, saying how someone was in love with a vampire who thirsted for her blood. That must be a difficult situation.. Sounds interesting enough. She shrugged and opened to the first page.

Riley glanced at the two girls out of the corner of her eyes before stepping forward to grab a Hemmingway novel. She'd read it in high school, but that'd been dissecting the work mostly. She couldn't remember the last time she'd actually read a book for fun. Or when she'd had the time to skim the back of a novel she wanted to read. Frowning, Riley leaned against the bookshelf and flipped briefly through the pages.

Amaya found what she was looking for in her stack. She sat down in her normal spot, placing her bag behind her, to use as a back support. She cracked open the page and headed back into her fantasy world. Looking up at a commotion with two girls she smiled and put her nose back in her book.

"Harper Lee," Riley replied quickly, despite the fact that the question was not directed to her. Her cheeks blushed lightly and she closed her Hemmingway novel before glancing at Nadine. "Sorry...I...didn't mean to eavesdrop or interrupt your conversation. Just..." Riley shifted her weight uncomfortably before tucking her hair behind her ear and opening her book again.

"Ah I see. How old are you anyway?" Eternity wasn't much of a romance reader either. She liked thrillers and suspenseful stories. She knew if she didn't at least give this book a quick read through, her friends would continue to get on her back. "Hmm... I don't believe I know that..." she glanced over at a few people who had entered a little earlier. "If you're really interesting in finding it, maybe we should ask someone?" tilting her head towards the two women flipping through their books.

"Sure," Riley nodded slowly, a bit relieved that the girl had not shot her an odd look for responding so quickly or responding to the question period, and rested her hand on one of the shelves, index finger running over the bindings of a few books as she debated which one to pick. She hadn't read any of them, a fact that was making her chore considerably more difficult, and she frowned minimally as she searched through them. "The movie isn't nearly as good as the book, but it's great as well,"

Eternity looked up at the woman who replied to Nadine's question. Although she'd never heard of that book either, she thought she should read that one as well. What a coincidence that both have read it, it must be good! she smiled, "What's it about ?" not directing the question to anyone in particular. She looked back and forth between them, biting her bottom lip and her eyebrows raised with interest.

"Thanks," she said recieving the book from her. She piled it on top of Twilight and looked back at the girl, "Yes, come join us!" Eternity smiled at the girl and followed Nadine with her books in one hand and using her other to brush the hair out of her face. She sat down in one of the chairs near Nadine and another woman, putting Twilight down and reading the back of To Kill A MockingBird.

Riley arched an eyebrow at Nadine's invitation before glancing back at Eternity and debating offering a brief smile in return. Amber's words - critiques really - seemed to echo in her mind - the horrid quality being serious apparently was - and she seemed to relent, smiling briefly in return before reaching for her book again and sinking down into one of the chairs, posture characteristically straight, almost painfully so, and one leg crossed over the other as she set her book down in her lap.

She glanced up to the a group of girls. Not noticing that she was half way done her book already. "Ohh, Hi. Uhm not exactly."[ She Smiled and put her hand in the book as her 'marker' and half closed it. "It's technically the cafe's. But since no one really comes to read, I've just made a stack of things to read. Rather then making a note that I'll lose as soon as it goes in my pocket." She giggled, then cleared her throat.

"Hello," she said to the woman with a smile, "Smart ! I'd probably lose it too," she laughed. "You come here often then?" she tilted her head, leaning back in her chair. She adjusted her position. Boy these are uncomfortable!
