Port Mercer began as a quaint, bustling port on the east coast of Georgia... quaint, besides its tendency to attract the wrong kind of attention. It was common knowledge that the docks, along with various establishments downtown, were infested with pirates. But something drove them out of their safe harbour and the town was left to languish for nearly a century, something the few townsfolk that remembered did not speak of.

Most from the neighbouring cities were still afraid to settle there, even with the pirates long gone. Then came the civil war, bringing it back to life- at a price. The town's strange reputation resurfaced once more, however this time it was from the talk of ghosts instead.

But prosperity was not to shine over Port Mercer forever. It was eventually overshadowed by the neighbouring town of Savannah, and fell into obscurity once more.

It was a perfect evening, the thick for was hanging heavy around town and Drake had his arm wrapped around his girlfriend's waist. Walking down the quiet Suffolk Row you could hardly see the smoke from his cigarette any different from the fog. "Hmm." He said calmly, looking around the dimly lit stone walkway.

"Dark enough for you?" Diya asked as she cuddled up against Drake. The fog was actually less thick in between buildings, so Suffolk Row (their new discovery) was perfect at this time of night. The very Port Mercer-like charm it exuded helped too.

"I think I'll be coming here often," she grinned.

Drake squeezed her as she cuddled closer. "Oh yeah?" He questioned looking down to her. "What do you plan to do here? There's hardly anything in this place." He asked curiously as he inhaled deeply and blew smoke toward the sky. He stared down to the rocky road ahead and let the remains of smoke seep out through his teeth as he tried to figure out how stable this road was, how likely it was that Diya or anyone else for that matter would fall.

Yes, the street did look a little worn, but Diya thought it gave the place 'character'. The vines growing all over the buildings and forming a canopy above them, the dim lighting and the old architechture made it feel like they'd stumbled upon something secret.

"Well, you like quiet though, don't you?" she asked.

"Yes. Quiet like safe quiet. Confined in a room without clothes quiet." He said reaching over and ticking her sides. "Or of course there's always just out in the open quiet. But not creepy alleyway quiet." He said shaking his head as he looked around. It was a nice place to be but alone he didn't imagine it would have near the effect on him as it did right now. He shook his head a little to get the stray hairs out of his eyes. He took the cigarette out of his mouth with his free hand and absentmindedly shook the ash, creating a small burnhole around the knee of his jeans.

"Your jeans!" Diya panicked a little as she spotted the burnhole and quickly tried to wipe off the ash with one hand, forgetting it was still a little hot. She quickly took back her hand not only because of the heat but she had also spread a bit of the now cold ash on the rest of his knee.

"I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry," she said frantically while rubbing the slightly sore spot on her fingers and wondering if she could wash the rest of that ash off his jeans.

"Diya! What the hell are you doing?" He said grabbing her by the arms and yanking her to her feet. "Are you crazy? Do you have any idea how common that is for me?" He lifted a brow and then threw the cigarette on the ground and unrolled the sleeve on his black shirt, "Look, holes all over the sleeves. This is why I push all my shirts up to the elbows." He informed her and then looked at her sore finger. "You really shouldn't have done that. They are just jeans." He said pulling her hand to his lips and kissing her hand softly.

Oh, Diya thought in her head as her face turned a dark shade of red. It was odd. They had practically seen each other naked yet little things like this could make her blush like mad. Drake made her feel like some Elizabethan princess.

"Sorry," she apologized again but looked on in wonder at the holes in his sleeves. Goodness, how could she have missed them?

"Not a big deal." He shrugged as they continued walking down the path. He pursed his lips together and inhaled fresh air and then slowly felt himself balling his hands into fists and chewing on his lower lip, signs that he needed more nicotine. He dug in his back pocket and pulled out the box and hit it against the palm of his hand and then pulled out one and poked it between his lips. "You know, my mother used to have a place kind of like this where she liked to take pictures of dead swans. There was a pond though." He said trying to draw back any warm family memories he could but he failed at that. Especially since a warm family memory involved death.

Grabbing his lighter he lit the fresh cigarette and inhaled, feeling a calm come over him as he slipped back into the walking pose they had been in before.

"Oh, so your mom was a...photographer?" Diya asked, wondering if she should delve further. He didn't sound like he had the most normal childhood, but hopefully it wasn't unpleasant- she wanted to know so much mroe about him. She had an odd childhood herself too, but thought she had done okay, finding Drake and all.

Winter walks down the street.

"I wonder if I could go to the Library to find information on my parents" she thought to herself quietly. She peeked to see if anyone was walking too.She noticed a man and a woman. But Winter was super shy she wouldn't even know what to say. So she just started walking fast to avoid conversation.

"Yeah. She originally wanted to be just like Dorothea Lange and change the world with her art of cold, hard truth but a lot of people thought her photography was a little too edgy and raw." He said with a shrug. "A lot of dark stuff that usually she was responsible for creating herself." He exhaled a cloud of smoke and pictured his drab mother with her sallow face and raggedy clothing, she looked like death most of the time he had seen her. The only time he could ever remember her looking decent was campaign season when his father would be running for a prestigious office and she had to put on a trophy wife facade.

"This road is longer than it looks."

Drake was right. They couldn't keep walking forever so she stopped for a bit. To their left was an empty store, and to their right one full of cupcakes and so pink it would probably burn his retinas out.

"Do you want go inside then?" she looked up at him and asked, not referring to any store in particular.

Winter Pauses as she walks.

"Ugh lost cellphone service" she screamed. she started moving around in circles to try to get service but sadly failed. She took out her ipod and started listening to her favorite band Paramore and started humming the lyrics to Decode. And fell in the grass. She badly scraped her knee on a branch. She laughed at herself for not being cautious but aleast her ipod wasn't broke.

"Want to check out what's going on in there?" He said refusing to even turn his head toward the bright cupcake store. "I wonder if there's anything inside." He said craning his head around to try and see inside.

"Oooh, okay," Diya answered enthusiastically, that sounded...adventurous, even if she was looking forward to cupcakes. "I wonder how strong that lock is," she wondered aloud, but paused as she heard someone scream behind her. The girl had fallen and then gotten up again, but looked like she was okay.

"Let's go in," Diya said to Drake and dragged him over to the store.
