Port Mercer began as a quaint, bustling port on the east coast of Georgia... quaint, besides its tendency to attract the wrong kind of attention. It was common knowledge that the docks, along with various establishments downtown, were infested with pirates. But something drove them out of their safe harbour and the town was left to languish for nearly a century, something the few townsfolk that remembered did not speak of.

Most from the neighbouring cities were still afraid to settle there, even with the pirates long gone. Then came the civil war, bringing it back to life- at a price. The town's strange reputation resurfaced once more, however this time it was from the talk of ghosts instead.

But prosperity was not to shine over Port Mercer forever. It was eventually overshadowed by the neighbouring town of Savannah, and fell into obscurity once more.

Cedar couldn't help but grin from ear to ear like a teenage girl who was finally allowed to go out on a date with her long-lost crush. As they exited the cab, she still held onto his hand and peered up at him. "Well, this is where I live..." she said dumbly.

"Charming," Matt said as he stopped in the centre of the courtyard and looked up. Sure, he had heard this place was pretty old but the atmosphere made up for it.

"It's really nice," he added as he slowly wrapped on arm around Cedar's back.

She shivered involuntarily, feeling slightly warm in his arms. Somehow, she hadn't expected him to embrace her without asking. Not that she minded. Cedar found herself leaning against his chest and peeking up at him from lowered lashes. "Yeah, it's a bit grungy on the outside but I think it looks romantic, don't you agree?"

And Matt didn't expect her to be leaning against him either. "Definitely. So are we going upstairs? Or do you live on the first floor?" he asked and took her hand again.

"All the way on the third floor. That's where I get my exercise," she mumbled, leading him to the front door by the stairs.
