Port Mercer began as a quaint, bustling port on the east coast of Georgia... quaint, besides its tendency to attract the wrong kind of attention. It was common knowledge that the docks, along with various establishments downtown, were infested with pirates. But something drove them out of their safe harbour and the town was left to languish for nearly a century, something the few townsfolk that remembered did not speak of.
Most from the neighbouring cities were still afraid to settle there, even with the pirates long gone. Then came the civil war, bringing it back to life- at a price. The town's strange reputation resurfaced once more, however this time it was from the talk of ghosts instead.
But prosperity was not to shine over Port Mercer forever. It was eventually overshadowed by the neighbouring town of Savannah, and fell into obscurity once more.

Unbearable heat was his thing. Being a firefighter and all, he had grown accustomed to being in a hot suit. And on top of that being in a constant, blazing heat wave. Without his gear, he felt like it was winter practically. The rest of the people however seemed a little less tolerant. He kept a smile on for the first few vendors, but after not having it returned he quickly bought a couple things, paid, and hurried along. In between vendors however his grin returned, goofy and toothy. He felt like little red riding hood, his bright red shirt and shopping bag thing. He paused for a few moments, looking at groceries, and at the vendor whose smile was frighteningly white, blinding almost. My my, what big teeth you have his mind entertained. He stopped behind a young woman looking through the pitas. He saw his goal, whole wheat multigrain loafs, and moved up "'Scuse me ma'am," he said, his southern accent evident and as pleasing as ever. He stole a glance down, noticing her face. And naturally her chest. What nice boobs you have his mind pressed but he shook it from his mind. His mother taught him not to be degrading, or shovanistic, and so he tried not to be.

"Mhmm." She replied, stepping aside without placing the random Pita's she had in her hand back in the basket and moving toward the Wines, she thought that cooking with wine was probably tasty but figured she would much prefer just to drink the bottle rather than try and mix it in with some other kind of dish she would probably never eat. Her loud, red hair flew over her face as a gust of wind came up behind her, pushing her light, lavender colored cotton dress against her and stinging her calves. She winced slightly at the ever so familiar pain she had gotten throughout the day and cursed under her breath wishing she had worn jeans out instead.
She leaned casually against a table with the wine bottle and pita bread in her hands, unsure if she needed either of them and considering if she should spend her money here and go home or wander on a bit more. As she stood there she felt terribly uncomfortable and stuffy now that the area was occupied by another beside her and the vendor. She folded her arms under her chest and pursed her lips together, not wanting to rush the man but trying to find a way to place the unwanted pita back in the bowl. "Uhm." She began, scrunching her face as she glanced at the ground feeling like an idiot. "I just need to..." She inched closer and slid by him and dropped the pita in the bowl and then backed out again, blinking uncomfortably, shaking her head trying to justify her ridiculousness to herself as she gave a few bills to the vendor to pay for the wine.

He was busy buying what he wanted to notice her trying to get passed him. The vendor was trying to deal with two customers at once and was failing. He backed up, trying to get behind the girl so that he could pay after her, but instead knocked the wine bottle out of her hand clumsily. He heard a shatter and squeezed his eyes shut. "O dear!" he said panicked. placing the bread on the counter and setting his grocery bag on the ground. He looked at the mess he caused. "Ma'am I am so sorry." he knelt down quickly and started picking up the bigger pieces of glass and assembling them in a pile. He looked over his shoulder at the wide eyed vendor. He was seldom embarrassed but this proved to be one of those moments. He shut his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose. "I'll buy you another one." he said wondering if it was even necessary. He picked a more expensive bottle up, one more aged and gave the vendor money for the bread and wine. "I'm so sorry." he bowed his head at the shellshocked young lady.

"It's the least I could do," he said in reply to his 'being too kind' But when she mentioned lunch, he found himself smiling again, the blood from his cheeks now circulating through his body again. "Well, I do believe if ya hadn't asked me I'd have had to ask you myself." he nodded still grinning. He looked around and picked up his grocery bag, and bread. "Wherever we go" he began, getting a better grip on the bag. He was very lucky today. Not only did he have the day off, but it was a fine day, and now he was given the pleasure of such a fine lady's company. It was good to know he was in good standings with whoever was above. "It is my treat." Even though she assured him it was alright, he was not going to accept her forgiveness until it was earned twice over.

"Pasta sounds great!" he said enthusiastically. "I don't really know where this place is though, so you'll have to lead the way." And frankly anywhere would have been fine. Not only was he starving, he was in need of a feminine presence. After all, the firefighters, while they were great guys, were not the type of people he would usually associate with. "Can we make a quick stop at the fire hall?" he asked. "I need to drop this stuff off for the guys." he said making a funny face hoping this was alright with her. "I'm Nolan by the way." he said laughing that he was now going to lunch with a stranger. An attractive one, but a stranger nonetheless.
