Port Mercer began as a quaint, bustling port on the east coast of Georgia... quaint, besides its tendency to attract the wrong kind of attention. It was common knowledge that the docks, along with various establishments downtown, were infested with pirates. But something drove them out of their safe harbour and the town was left to languish for nearly a century, something the few townsfolk that remembered did not speak of.

Most from the neighbouring cities were still afraid to settle there, even with the pirates long gone. Then came the civil war, bringing it back to life- at a price. The town's strange reputation resurfaced once more, however this time it was from the talk of ghosts instead.

But prosperity was not to shine over Port Mercer forever. It was eventually overshadowed by the neighbouring town of Savannah, and fell into obscurity once more.

The grating sound erupting from the hood was unpleasant. "Dammit." he yelled, slamming his hand on the dashboard. The window was down and it was rather hot in Georgia on today. He pulled over to the side of the road and put it in park, smashing the hood button. Fionne opened the door, felt the sun and shed another layer. His undershirt was clinging to his back. It wasn't summer heat or anything, but the car was black, and the sun was shining indefinitely. Mazzy walked to the front of the car, snatching up a piece of wheat and sticking it in his mouth like a cowboy. He just needed his kickers and a duster hat. He rubbed his hand over his forehead and pushed back his hair. I got no damn clue what I'm doing here... He leaned over the engine in mystery pondering how he was gonna get outta this mess.

Sena whistled as she drove down the Willowview in the red Honda Civic the Company decided to get for her. Cheap bastards. It wasn't all that old, but the paint was a little chipped in random places, the right door handle squeaked, and the bumper was dented on one side. The car itself ran fine though, and fast enough for her. Lost in thought, Sena was suddenly interrupted by the sound of something a few metres away. Some guy's car had broken down. She wasn't in much of a hurry though, the eclipse wouldn't be for another week or something, so she decided to stop the car.

"Your car," she said as she got out, still not sure if she wanted to offer him help yet. "You need a tow truck or something?" she added, making a face, assuming he was either having trouble fixing it or had no idea what he was doing.

"Naw," said Mazzy, his voice as smooth and calm, his accent thick and appealing. "I can handle it little lady. All I've gotta do is-" he was interrupted by his own voice screaming out as his hand touched something piping hot. "Goddamn it!" he swung his hand around in the air to cool off the burn but it only seemed to add to the sting. Mazzy clutched his hand to his chest and went to his car to retrieve his handkerchief. He took it out of the glove department and wrapped it around his hand. "I could use a little help here though." he said, holding out his hand to be tied off. His voice was suggestive, but only subtly. He flexed his arm ever so slightly.

Little lady eh? Then he put his hand down into the hood and ran off screaming. Sena raised an eyebrow as him run to his car and back with a handkerchief in hand, smiling to herself. She didn't miss that flexing of his arm and piece of wheat in his mouth. After all, Sena never missed anything visible to the naked eye (and more). She could also tell his hand was probably still aching.

"Might want to put some water on that," she said as she walked over to look in his car. Truth is, she had no idea what to do either. She just bent over, put her hand on a piece of metal or two and looked back up.

"Were you heading into town?"

The sweat that had once been wiped from his face had now re-emerged to sting his hand even more. He clenched his teeth and sucked in air. "Well, I was gon' go back home, but I think I'm gonna have to go to the hospital now." he chuckled, moving closer to her, checking her out. She was pretty. Nice skin and a nice body. Now, he wasn't making it obvious, but her cleavage was plentiful, and not too big either. His glance was hardly noticeable. "I'd fix the car myself, but seeing as my hand is all mussed up..." he played it cool. No self-respecting man could let a woman save him. After all, he wasn't even in distress really, it was just his hand. And he had convinced himself of that. "I'm Mazzy by the way. Fionne Mazzy." Perfect blend of southern twang and James Bond delivery.

"All mussed up...where you from?" Sena asked as she leisurely made her way back into her car.

"Get in," she waved with her hand out the window as she watched him in the side mirror. "I'm heading into town."

"Uh, Georgia, ma'am. Born and raised." he said politely, slightly disgruntled at the fact that he would have to be a passenger in the car. His chauvinistic attitude unfortunately often got him worked up about having to do thingy that weren't masculine by his fathers standards; something in todays world looked down upon, he was only doing what he was taught, and acting how he was raised. "Thank you kindly Ma'am," he cleared his throat. "Oh!" he said quickly, with a boyish, dopey look on his face. "Almost forgot mah keys." he opened the door, took the keys out of ignition, rolled up both windows as fast as possible, and then grabbed up his shirt. "Why ma'am, you have me at a disadvantage I believe." he said, bowing his head slightly. It was just about now he really wanted a duster hat to tip at her like a fine gentleman. He was resting his arms on top of her car, head peeking into the window with a grin on. Although young, Fionne often acted a bit older, but inside he was still a young man, hormones and all.

Now that was new. "Bowing...Everyone in Georgia like that?" Sena asked as she put in the key and turned around to push down the lock on the back door. Yeah, that was broken too. Damn. Then she went back to thinking about why she was here in this dead little town again- they were scouting out areas where they'd seen or caught evolved humans in the past. Port Mercer had been quiet for a while, but the upcoming eclipse could change that. A lot, and she wondered what it would have been like for her to find her ability like that. Probably the same, it wasn't like she could spew acid or explode. No, her power never hurt anyone unless she wanted it to, and she was thankful for that.

And Mazzy, was likewise thankful for not being able to read her mind. Because, had he, it may have served as a cockblock. And he couldn't have that. As far as he was concerned, nobody could resist him, it was only a matter of time. And she was awful cute. He liked her nose. Mazzy shook his head, finding his mind wandering. He knew that nothing was gonna be happening to his member tonight. He started thinking of ways to make sure they met up again though. "So what brings you here?" He figured she wasn't at a name giving base.

"Mercer seems kinda dumpy for a lady like you." Not that he disliked home.

"Dumpy...yeah, not too dumpy for my car though. I'm here for work. I'm assuming you live here?" she asked him. Now that she thought about it, she indirectly suggested he was living somewhere dumpy. Oops. But then she was sort of too lazy to correct herself, so whatever.

"Not right here, I mean in the city, downtown or waterfront," but on the other hand she didn't like being vague either- unless it was about the Company. Then as vague as humanly possible was the best. God forbid anyone tried to concern themselves with her business!

He was a little bit too dim to pick up on her indirect insult. "Oh, I see," Not the talkative type eh? He lifted his undershirt to wipe the bit of oil from the car off of his face, obviously and purposefully showing off his defined abs. Guess she's more of a visual gal...

Now, he looked somewhat like a grease monkey, which he had heard was very attractive to women. The slightly stained shirt, sweat bears on his face. He thought he couldn't look more appealing if he tried. Well, tried any harder. Because he sure was trying. Even a subtle glance outta the corner of her eye. "You mind droppin' me at the Chip n' Dale joint? I got work soon and I may as well just get my shower.." he said chuckling. "Naw I'm just joking..." After he said it however, he thought she wouldn't appreciate the humor, and his grin faded pretty quickly into a glance out of the window.

Sena, on some deep, subconscious level she would rather not acknowledge, happened to like them a little dimwitted. Him not picking up on the insult was entirely to his advantage. The abs too. Grease? Okay. And it was true, Sena wasn't the most talkative. She wasn't the raised to be. Speak only when you are spoken to, give orders, take orders, one of us, one of them. Things like that. Mantras they recited to her, over and over. She wasn't raised to be normal. But she knew how to fake it. But fake it well? Not so sure.

"Seriously though, where do you want a ride to? I'm probably getting off at the hostel," she said, rolling up one sleeve and hanging one hand out the window, leaning against the side of the door. The wind felt good against her hand.

"Actually," he began thinking for a moment on how close the hostel was. "You can just drop me off there. It's pretty close to my p- Uh, my auto shop." Which in reality was his fathers auto shop. He thought however, it made him sound more adult, and in turn more appealing. GO FIGURE, more appealing then he was presently. "This ain't so bad anyway, I don't needa hospital." he began to unwrap the already healing burn, grazing his finger along it. "I just gotta get the ole' tow truck and bring it on back to my car." Which in reality meant his father would have to drive him out and find out what the problem was. He didn't find a problem with embellishment. It made life more fun.

"Say, I still didn't get your name..." he pressed. She'd have to give it up sooner or later...he gave her a sheepish grin as a little extra.

"Sena. Just Sena," she replied, steadily keeping her eyes on the road ahead. Far, far ahead. "You?" Sena added out of courtesy, turning her head aside for only a split second, which probably looked odd to most people, they didn't see things like she did, but then again she was driving and that was a good excuse. 'Course it was. She drew her left hand back into the car and dug into her pocket. It was a habit she still kinda had after quitting smoking. New York already seemed like such a long time ago. But four years was kind of long, she guessed. She kept her hand in her pocket, wondering if the guy sitting beside her had been in this town his entire life.

Forgot that quick? No bother. He'd probably forget her name too after he banged her. "Fionne." Irish mother and a straight up Georgian father. He grinned fiddling with his fingernails trying to think of some small talk. "Mighty pretty name ya got there." It was obvious she wasn't from here so in his mind he guessed where she could be from. Heaven he joked inwardly, grinning to himself. "So, where ya from? I don't think I asked that yet..."

Actually she sort of did remember, but Sena tended to do these kinds of things. Awkward as child, being sheltered and indoctrinated by the Company only made things considerably worse. It was that movie she watched in that tiny hotel in New York one night, a rerun on HBO, they'd called the girl- 'cold, hard, plastic'. That was Sena. Okay, not in the same context, she wasn't in high school anymore, but you get the gist of it. Straight to the point. Always had to take time to think, think about what to say next, because she usually wasn't sure, especially when someone was being genuine with her and she wasn't trying to talk her way into or out of something. Make regular, small talk with people who couldn't kill her.

"Thanks. Where am I from? All over, kinda...born in New York." That was true, but she didn't spend more than a few years there after she was born. Didn't remember much of it by the time she got back a few years ago.

"Nothing like Port Mercer," she nodded. "Is it this quiet everywhere?" she wondered aloud.

"Sure is." he chuckled. And it was, but there was the underlying murmur of everything a larger city had. It was all there just muted and hidden beneath layers of retiring old people. They reached his fathers auto-shop and he hopped out of the car, closing the door and leaning into the rolled down window. "See ya round, Sena."
