Port Mercer began as a quaint, bustling port on the east coast of Georgia... quaint, besides its tendency to attract the wrong kind of attention. It was common knowledge that the docks, along with various establishments downtown, were infested with pirates. But something drove them out of their safe harbour and the town was left to languish for nearly a century, something the few townsfolk that remembered did not speak of.

Most from the neighbouring cities were still afraid to settle there, even with the pirates long gone. Then came the civil war, bringing it back to life- at a price. The town's strange reputation resurfaced once more, however this time it was from the talk of ghosts instead.

But prosperity was not to shine over Port Mercer forever. It was eventually overshadowed by the neighbouring town of Savannah, and fell into obscurity once more.

Even for a gutsy reporter, this whole plague was stirring up something she hadn't felt before in a long time: Fear. The town was just about hysterical over the entire ordeal. She was told to make an announcement to settle the nerves. Essentially, lie to the public and tell them there was nothing to worry about. "We're live in 3...2..." The camera man pointed to her and she looked into the camera with as strong an expression she could muster. "Good evening Port Mercer," she began a little shaky, "This is Kat LaRoche bringing you the most current information on this deadly new virus dubbed 'Croatoan Syndrome' by the locals." Her voice was warming up now, and the entire studio knew this was going to be a good one. "30 cases so far have sprung up across the town, causing some areas to be quarantined by the local authorities. Among these places are Varnier Drive, Wensbrook, Suffolk Row, Drayton Street, and Greene Way. While there have only been 4 deaths, the small medical team expects a rise in infection. Thus far, it is unclear as to how the sickness spreads, but the initial infection seems to have occurred in Ala Cover, leading most to believe that it is spread through contact with the ocean." she licked her lips quickly and took a short breath. "Even further puzzling is how to tell who is infected. Symptoms range from that of a common cold to extreme dehydration. Medical personnel has yet to release any treatment plans, but they have requested that anyone who is capable report to the Daffin Memorial Hospital, and even are offering doctors outside Port Mercer full compensation to come and join their taskforce." she took another short breath and began again. "Citizens have been asked to remain in their homes and report any signs of sickness to local authorities. This sickness is very dangerous and what may be a minor cold to one may be a very life threatening sickness to another. Stay tuned for more information on this deadly outbreak."
