But I didn't reference it from a screen. :/ I had an old line art pic of this i made a while back, and decided to color it. And for the hair, I used different shades of blue, and tried to play around with it a little.

The whole "different shades of blue" would work...if shaded correctly. You have curves in the hair made by line art that carry no weight because the color's shading doesn't do anything for them. Thats the point of shading, it creating a more 3-D look. If you shade wrong it's pointless.

What I'm meaning is basically where the curve is, there should be darkness underneath because it would cast a shadow you know? The top of the curve would probably be bright because it'd be up getting more sun/light. Hope it helps.
