The door squeaked as I entered the cold, lonely Gym. It appeared as though the hadn't been a challenger for some time. The door made a loud crash as it closed behind me and I stood, alone, in the dark, silent Gym.

"Hello?!" I yelled, hearing my echo a number of times. "I am Rachel. Leaders, I wish to challenge you!"

I stood in wake, waiting for a response.

After a long wait, a female trainer revealed herself. Carrying a single pokeball, the trainer made her way to the opposing end of the arena.

‘My name is Flaire,’ she yawned, pausing a few moments to regain her breathe. ‘It’s been a while since we’ve had a challenge; I hope you will be worth the rude awakening. You can make the first move; you’ll need it against my Flareon.’

Flareon erupted from her pokeball, causing the entire gym to reignite with life, warmth and light. Flareon moved in front of her trainer and took a battle position, ready to take on anything you threw at them.

I took a few steps towards the arena. I reached to my belt and withdrew none other then my white Horsea.

"Have you ever seen one of these before, Flarie?" I began. "This is my trusty, white Horsea."

Remembering that Flarie had yawned when se greeted me, I assumed she hadn't had a battle for some time. Either way, we were here and we were ready to pounce.

"I hope you haven't become scruffy in your battle style," I teased, before actually focusing on the battle. "Okay Horsea, let's start it off with your Focus Energy, then a Bubblebeam attack. Increase your chances of a critical hit, then hit it where it hurts. Let's go!"

"Well, I hope you will entertain me, Flareon use your Sand Attack followed up with a Bite!" Flaire said yawning.

Your white horse cried out "Horseeeea" and pumped itself up, at the same time Flaire's Flareon kicked up some dust from the ground lowering your horsea's accuracy.

Horsea then managed to pull out with a bubble beam, but due to having sand in its eye it only hit the side of flareon doing a little damage. Flareon counter attacked with a bite dealing some damage.

Both horsea and flareon were ready for more!

"Good job Horsea," I continued. "I know you're accuracy is down, so try to focus. Use two more Bubblebeams. If Flareon tries any fire attacks, try and block the attack with your bubbles! Heck, try and keep Flareon from using physical attacks by knocking it back with the bubbles. Let's go!"

The battle was on!

"Horsea, Horsea!" Horsea nodded as he turned Flareon, ready to unleash a barrage of bubbles.

"Not a bad start, that's for sure. And your Horsea has a lot of spirit. Let's just hope Flareon doesn't dry him out!" Flaire winked as she flicked her hair back. "Now then, Flareon use Sunny Day followed by Flamethrower!"

As Flareon began to increase the power of the sun, Horsea began to take a deep breathe before unleashing a tonne of bubbles. Combining both Bubblebeams into one attack, the bubbles shot forwards in the thousands. The Sun began to get brighter, emitting heat and reducing the power of water attacks. But it was too late, the bubbles began to pound against Flareon who wailed out in pain. The bubbles burst against her lush fur, doing critical damage. Flareon fell back, she couldn't stand. The attack had thrown her off, she needed a moment to rest.

(If I switch out, can I still use two attacks, or does the switch out count as an attack? I'll only use one attack for the moment, because I'm actually not sure.)

The new weather conditions didn't seem to work Horsea's favour. The main use of Horsea was to weaken it with super effective attacks, but with its accuracy down and the water attack's strength lowered to half, I felt it would be best to switch out for the moment.

"Okay Horsea, take a little break," I began, holding out a red and white Pokeball that Horsea disappeared into. "I may need you later" I thought.

With that, I reached to my belt and pulled out another Pokemon. When this one opened, shining sparks revealed themselves as an oddly coloured Arcanine.

"Flarie, meet my shiny Arcanine," I introduced, before following up with Arcanine's first command.

"Okay Arcanine, let's start off with your Body Slam attack!"

I knew that Flareon's "Flash Fire" ability would abuse Arcanine's fire attacks, but at least the weather wouldn't be as effective in this situation.

Flaire smirked at your Arcanine. "You do know the old expression 'Fight fire with fire' is a bad idea, right?" Her smug attitude changed as Arcanine barreled headfirst straight into Flareon, knocking it backwards and off it's feet. "You little-! Flareon, get up now! Hit it with a Sand-Attack, then follow up with a Bite!"

Arcanine's intimidating presence made Flareon hesitate for a moment, but it then turns around and kick up clouds of sand and dust, scattering it through the air to lower Arcanine's accuracy. With that done, the little pokemon leaped, then landed on Arcanine's back with a vicious bit attack. This battle wasn't over, and it wouldn't be for a long, long time.

"Arcanine, I began, hoping my commands would be effective strategically. "Try and shake the sand out of your eyes! Then, use Howl to build up your strength, then dive in with a Body Slam for damage and a possible paralysis!"

The battle was igniting. The two fiery foes were really heating up the battle.

Arcanine instantly took to shaking her head in an attempt to get the small grains of sand out of her eyes, yet she seemed to be having no luck at all in accomplishing this goal. Nonetheless, as her head came to rest once again, the proud Legendary Pokémon raised her head skywards and let out a wonderful howl from within...

"Quite a beautiful howl," Flaire replied, for she had heard many howls throughout her life and this was definitely one of the better ones. However, she couldn't take the time to listen this time. This was a gym battle, and it was her responsibility to give this trainer a battle worth fighting.

"Flareon, fight back with Quick Attack!' cried the Fire-type gym leader, watching as her Flame Pokémon dashed towards the large yellow, black, and cream colored target. It was also at this time that Arcanine ended her howl, bounding forward to hit Flareon hard with Body Slam. The two Pokémon raced to see who would get the first hit...

Flareon crouched for no more than a second before launching herself upwards, hitting Arcanine in the chest for a fair amount of damage. However, there was nothing that could be done to stop the shiny Pokémon from falling, therefore crushing Flareon beneath her body and giving her own fair bit of damage. When the two seperated, it was clear that paralysis had yet to kick in.

The battle seemed to be going well, for the moment, but things could still change.
