It would be a very ambitious thing to attempt to organize but it would be a great thing to do if it could be done.
If there was enough genuine interest, like half a dozen players prepared to commit to however long it takes, then I do believe there are chess sites one can join and set up tournaments. One that I used a few years ago depended on exchanging moves by e-mail with a time limit of a few days per move which wasn't exactly electrifyingly exciting but...

Never having been to any chess event before apart from the few low-grade events I've been in, my most exciting day out this year was to Simpsons in the Strand to the Staunton Memorial event where I sat all afternoon only a few feet away from Jan Timman v Victor Korchnoi, two old warriors who used to challenge Karpov for the World Championship. So thrilling was it that I'm going back to Kensington Olympia on Dec 14 for the next to last day of another big tournament which includes future World Champion Magnus Carlsen.

But don't let me frighten you off. I'd do no more than survive in a local league B team and I'm struggling to get my rating up to 1300 on the FICS website (Free Internet Chess Server). Players who know what they're doing are rated a few hundred above that.
If there is sufficient interest in a league, we might sdee what we can do for 2010, perhaps?

Otherwise I'll have to get back on the pool table, steal my daddy's cue and see if I can take a game off Jane.

It's not taking a game off me that's difficult, David. It's living to tell the tale.

Poets and Chess? Okay, this is officially one of the wackiest posts ever on POF. While I applaud your ingenuity, let's try and keep it vaguely relevant in this section. But if you must get these things off your chess, try the Odd Stuff section.

That's fine, Jane. I'm very sorry about that. I only hope that if we ever meet and there's a pool table nearby that I'm at the top of my game and you've forgotten the rules.
In fact, would it be possible for you to re-dis-enable me from having access to the forum. It's great to read but I'd prefer not to be able to take part in it.
I've never seen such bereft lists of vacantly theoretical 'ideas' as those listed among the 'stylistic' aspects of poems that Roddy and those that answered his question managed to think of.
And, as ever, massive respect to the star of the show, young C.J. There will be a place for him when television eventually needs to find poetry's answer to Jedward, the clueless pop stars that provided cheap newspapers with headlines for a few weeks.
But I don't see how you differentiate between the odd stuff and the acceptable. I do have to say that however 'on fire', exciting and revolutionary some of you think you are, nothing that I've seen here makes you any more devastating than the mainstream you seem to want to despise.
So, please delete me, let me go. I'll be the more amused from the sidelines.

But, best wishes, Happy Christmas and everything to all. Please keep up the good work.
