Fine Arts Fest 2008
Fine Arts Fest is the month all students look forward to as well as the townspeople. It is a time for students to perform and show off their work from the previous year. Artists put up their work all over the hallways and even in some places downtown like The Bean and Pasta Inc! Writing students publish their work in a literary magazine, and all performing arts students put on a show. It is truly a magnificent site.
Students are running around handing out fliers for their shows, trying to make the most eye-catching flier and sell the most tickets. Art students are darting from person to person asking for them to vote for their paintings for “Best In Show.” Writing Students? Why, they’re flying from person to person asking those they crash into to read the literary magazine. Student-designed t-shirts supporting specific fine-arts or simply Fine Arts Fest overall are being sold at all performances and during lunch hours in the cafeteria.
Each fine art student has some form of representation of their fine art on their door. Dancers will tap paper dance shoes to their door while actors out up drama masks. Each student’s creation is different but is a special show if their art and what they love about it.
Then, on the last day of the month, students go parading through the town. Dancers dance in the middle of the road. Singers stand outside restaurants and sing for customers. A lucky few get booked at the Bean, usually seniors. Actors perform monologues for people in the park. Artists take sidewalk chalk and draw up and down Main Street. Writers post their poems and short stories all over shop windows. It is absolute fine arts mayhem but it is a day everyone anticipates, the students and townsfolk alike.
Students crave Fine Arts Fest more than any other school event. It is the pride of Owen Academy.
