At the moment it's the only non-game product of Doug's mind that I own. (Hopefully I'll be able to buy a few more graphic novels eventually)

Anyone else read this? I think it's incredibly charming, in spite of all the blood. And several times I laughed out loud at it. Great stuff.

I love "Gear". It's great. Especially considering that I found it mostly by some hilarious accident. My parents mocked me for wanting to get it so badly, but "screw heritage", right? wink.gif

Hehe. I would point out that you're not supposed to emulate the evil guy, but I ended up guilty of that.

It was nowhere near an accident for me to get it - I had to practically drag the thing away from Amazon.

Oh, don't worry, I still hate Pago for what he did to Gear. angry.gif

I walked into Barnes and Noble and saw it just sitting on a shelf, then bought it. I didn't even know it had been re-released.

What der hell are you guys talking about? I've never heard of any of this.

Could somebody please explain to me what's going on? Or at least a summary?

Oh and "you shouldn't try to emulate the bad guy"... Guilty as charged.

Okies. Gear was Doug's first graphic novel and it's about a world where cats, dogs and insects are fighting wars against each other. There are giant fighting robots and the factions fight each other for control of the robots, so that they have more power. The main guys are four cats called Gordon, Waffle, Mr Black, and Simon, who were named after Doug's real-life pet cats. There's also a fabled power so great it would give whoever used it total dominance, called the Forbidden Mechanism, but people are of different opinions about where it is or whether it even exists.

The Forbidden Mechanism turns out to be a robot called Gear, who looks a lot like a robotic Neverhoodian and he's dumbtarded, but has holy powers and stuff.

The characters from Gear were adapted later into the Nickelodeon cartoon, Catscratch.

Really. I mean, whatever happened to Simon(yes, he died, but you see his spirit or whatever a lot)?

I just got an awful feeling that the relationship between the Neverhood game and movie will be the same as the relationship between Gear and Catscratch. ohmy.gif
