Life: It is told that Life was forged of Narvia's rage and Lodemi's tears. Narva's rage caused Volcanoes to spill their liquid fire and from the magma Holv was born. Lodemi's tears filled Narvai's empty crevices creating the salty seas of which Renoris was born. Together the four gods made the planet inhabitable, and together they forged the template for life on Narvai. Narvai made the body, Renoris made the mind, Holv made the spirit, and Lodemi made the soul which bound the other three parts together.
All life consists of these four parts. The body is physical part of the being. The mind is the part of being responsible for memory knowledge and other mental activities. The soul is the immortal portion of the being which holds close bonds with he mind. This bond outlasts death, but has been known to degrade over time after death. The spirit binds all four parts together and is said to be the animating force. Most planar outsiders have unique souls that die along with the body. There are means of over coming this fate but most involve grasping the attention of a deity an obtaining a miracle.
Death: The spirit is destroyed in death of the body, though in some cases a destroyed spirit results in the death of the body. When the body dies mind and soul depart for the afterlife through the astral plane. Where the soul goes depends largely upon one's deeds, alignment, and the will of the gods. Revival is possible through the use of magic, though it is not commonly used. In order to return a being from death several conditions must be met. The being can not have his sentience in the form of the undead, The being can not be punished by the gods, and the soul can not be trapped or destroyed. Animating sentient undead works similarly, though true life can never be obtained. The soul is often forever scarred in the process. It is not entirely understood what happens to sentient undead that are successfully destroyed but it is presumed that Lavelo keeps their souls as payment and punishment for their incompetence.
The Planes
Material Plane: The Material Plane is normal plane of existence. Natives of other planes are referred to planar outsiders.
Astral Plane: The Astral Plane touches all planes of existence and often is used in interplanar travel. Souls travel briefly through this plane when moving on to Limbo.
Ethereal Plane: Also known as the Spirit plane, the Ethereal Plane is tangent to the Material plane and holds an awkward relation to it. The material plane can be seen and heard from the Ethereal Plane, but it's blurry and distorted. Force magic can effect the Ethereal Plane from the Material plane, but no magic of the Ethereal plane can effect the material plane in such a manner. Incorporeal Undead are between the Ethereal Plane and the Material plane allowing them to be effected by either plane. Spirits inhabit this plane, though little is known about them. They seem phantom-like, yet are neither living nor dead. The commonly resemble animal-like forms, but lack substance. It debated whether spirits are the remnants of the spirits of living creatures lost through death, or if they are they imagination of the gods not yet born.
Elemental Planes: The Elemental planes are the planes of the four elements. Each is under the care of of its specific deity. The majority of the inhabitants are elementals, which are reborn souls selected by the elemental Deity of the plane. The process wipes memory but unlike similar processes the soul can continue to be reborn so long as the elemental dies within it's own plane.
Fire: The Fiery plane of fire has a burning landscape and seas of magma and is governed by the god Holv. Generally the most dangerous plane for mortal travelers as protection from fire and heat is required for and wishing not to die from the elements.
Earth: The enclosed plane of Earth is system of tunnels within endless earth and is governed by the goddess Narvai. The gems found here are exquisite, though many creatures found in the plane are quite dangerous, with their ability to see and pass through earth as if it were not more than water.
Water: The Oceanic plane of water is endless water with various earth-like masses drifting inside and is governed by the goddess Reynoris. Those without means of breathing underwater drown.
Air: The stormy plane of air is endless air with plenty of clouds and weather effects and is governed by the god Lodemi. Without the gift of flight a traveler could be trapped in an endless free fall, at least until one of the local creatures decides to take on the easy snack.
The Outer Planes
Limbo: Limbo is where all souls go for judgment by the gods. Judgment is handled by the favored Deity or the Deity whose personality is closest matched by the soul. Living and undead creatures can not travel to Limbo. It is believed that those who forsake the gods will be condemned to wander the bleak landscape of Limbo for eternity.
Heaven: Heaven is the plane where beings of good go when they die. It is also the home and origin of all angels, which are merely reborn souls that have preformed exceptional deeds that caught the attention of the gods. This process sometimes wipes out old memories. Heaven houses Celestial and Energon.
Celestia: A special area within Heaven for lawful souls. Angels born here are referred to as Celestials.
Energon: A special area within Heaven for Chaotic souls. Angels born here are referred to as Archons.
Tatarus: Tartarus is the plane where beings of evil go when they die as well as several punished and captured souls. It is also the home and origin of all fiends which are merely reborn souls that have preformed exceptional deeds that caught the attention of the gods. This process sometimes wipes out old memories. Tartarus houses Hell and the Abyss.
Hell: A special area within Tartarus for lawful souls. Fiends born here are referred to as Devils.
Abyss: A special area withing Tartarus for chaotic souls. Fiends born here are referred to as Demons.
