I may have in the past been accused of liking this board to be a bit too cosy, and I probably will again after this post.

This is getting fucking stupid.

The vast majority of people who post to these boards know each other for a good while now. Disagreements will often happen, we realise that, which is why we have B+M. while we do not want everything to be "nicey nicey" we would hope that people will still remember that our number 1 rule "Don't be a twat" still applies regardless of the forum.



The behaviour of some posters recently has been over the line, we have warned people and we trust that such behaviour won't happen again.


that said, there is a certain degree of petty, snidey, bullshit creeping into threads and other avenues from a number of people and if allowed to continue may very well turn our boards into something that will rapidly become a place that people won't want to come back to.

what has been said has been said, but I would hope that people would be grown up enough to sort it out, either on the boards, or by email like civilised adults without the Admins and the Mods having to sort it out for them.

We don't want to start banning folk (temporarily or permanently), so please don't force our hand on this issue.

I’ve missed out on most of this food fight (apart from having unearthed the erstwhile little known ‘Friends of Paul’ chat room group), but I do find it interesting that there’s more in-fighting here than on boards 10, maybe 50, times the size. I mean ‘pound-for-pound’ this is way out there.

Perhaps it’s more akin with a kind of family dynamic, that sort of thing but with an Internet twist. Maybe the Modding is more relaxed, maybe the group is unusually good at self-policing . . .

Anyway, I’d suggest the psychology and group dynamic is pretty different to elsewhere in Message-board Land, elsewhere I’ve been, anyway.

Any thoughts on why, or perhaps it’s not ?

Also, I would like to reiterate my point I made in the Hospital thread about driveby bullshit in B&M. If you haven't got anything to contribute to an argument, we don't need the same clever dicks posting zero content posts to pad their counts. IMO.

ok, none of the 'recent shit' bothered me particularly. I think some people are a little oversensitive about some things which I couldn't care less about but hey, that's life! We've already discussed my feelings about whether this is 'real life' or not...

I don't even mind being given an insulting and demeaning avatar cos, after all, it's a hilarious joke!

What you mods do about it is also, I've realised/decided/whatever, your business (as rule 3 makes clear)

I didn't lock the threads because they contained bitching and moaning, I locked them to try and find a constructive way to resolve the crap that was happening and that the issues in that thread were being dealt with (to death) elsewhere.

There is no ignore feature for our version of Invision. There was a Greasemonkey script (Greasemonkey being a Firefox extension), but it doesn't work with recent versions.

I'm not so convinced that no trace will be left behind. Some of what has been said from person A to person B has to colour person B's perception of person A. I know that things that people have said here in the past have led to me forming very negative opinions of them, which certainly don't just disappear. Why would they? I don't come to the screen each time afresh with a clean slate.

Seriously, what benefit was to be gained from leaving the thread I locked open? It's still there for anyone to read it, but I doubt anything can be added to it that couldn't be adressed elsewhere.

I don't really think it's anyones job. This is a forum. It has rules. The job of mods and admins is to keep the forum going and apply the rules. That's it, IMO.

I don't have any problem with the threads being locked on the basis that they'd been done to death - it's just the "find a constructive way to resolve..." stuff that I mildly object to.

While you're mildly objecting, feel free to mildly answer my question about who would benefit from an excessively nasty thread being left open.

Nobody has to benefit - I thought that was clear from my post.

If you're saying that you were closing the thread in order to enforce the "don't be a twat rule", that's fine by me. It's all this constructive resolution stuff I have a problem with.

He adopted a style you frequently use. Yeah, he was taking the piss and I can see that it may offend/hurt you for all of about 2 seconds, but to others of us it was quite funny. Sorry.

And as for the "blown over" comment, I'd have to agree. Except for one comment I don't think any more of it, and I give less and less of a shit about that one comment as time goes by. When the hell are we all next meeting up for drinks?
