I just learned to play DnD about five weeks ago. It's awesome. I have had more fun there than I can recall having anywhere else. And I actually feel like I belong there, which...well, I have a tendency to feel really out of place with anybody I hang out with. So it's a really nice change. ...And the story is really strange and amusing (okay, it's not always funny, but it usually is. We are ALWAYS cracking jokes. Oh, and the halflings are a running joke by now...they keep showing up, the little thieves. Oh, the stories I could tell...) and confusing...and long. Only 5 sessions, but they're each 5 hours long. The last one was 6 hours. If you don't want to read a really freakin' long story that doesn't concern any of you, hit the back button now. But it's fun, so why not read it anyway? :D

1st session: Beat the snot out of a bugbear. The rogue chops its head off and runs around with it on his sword. Hide from guards. Rogue gets arrested. The rest of us get invited to join Adventurer's Guild. The rogue (I can't remember his name) gets bailed out. Bribes the adventurer's guild people so he can join. Aramil throws the bugbear head at him. "GUARDS! HE DID IT AGAIN!!"

I don't but it sounds fun! Expensive, from what I've seen at Waldenbooks, though...

I'll give you that...it IS expensive. 30 bucks blown on that Player's Handbook. But that's all I had to buy. 'Course, if you wanted to DM, you'd have to get more books than that. Kevin, our DM, has like 15 different books...but when I need a different one to look stuff up, I can just borrow from him so it's all good. And dice are cheap...plus you can use other people's if you don't want to spend the money. That goes for the Handbook, too, but it's nice to have your own.

Ah, it's so much fun...I want it to be friday now. Yes, I'm aware that yesterday was friday, but I want another one! We only play on fridays!

I like the futurama episode where Fry asks what if he never went into the future and It starts all of this stuff so the Creator Of dugeons and dragons always rolls his 12 sided die to reply to someone. ha!

That is besides the point. I have never played but have always wanted to try it. I know of no one that plays so. So, your status is determined by the amout of books you have? That is the strangest bureaucracy I have ever heard of!

Well, no, but to be a Dungeon Master it helps to know as much as you can about the game, and having reference books helps...it's technically not necessary to have the books if you're just playing for fun, though I guess it does make things easier and more official.

I've played once or twice...it's okay. Paper and pen (or computer) roleplays are more of my thing...though it was pretty fun.

lol...the throwing-bottles...XP

I have been playing DnD (Dungeons and Dragons) with Knowles since I was six, Bill (Knowleses dad) is realy good at DM (Dungeon Master) My charicters useually follow along Knight's (Knowleses Brother) path. Such as, "Well, lets go kill that Dragon." "Um, sure I guess...long as I get some loot from it."

I've played it a couple times with Knowles. I'd have to say that it is very fun indeed. I managed to roll a paladin. w00t!

Yeah... no status is determined by books. It's just nice to have them if you can afford them. A friend of mine thinks it's boring...but then she told me the only time she'd played, it had just been her and the DM. So it probably has a lot to do with the group. The group I'm in is just...perfect.

Kevin's new to DMing, but he's played enough that he knows how to do it well. Anthony is in his twenties. We play at his apartment. I always wonder about his social life...I mean, he sets aside 5 hours every friday to have a bunch of teenagers over to play. He's been playing for years, and he knows just about everything about the game... ironic that his character was the first of the PCs to die. John is a friend of his, with this hilarious character. It helps that he's got a great sense of humor himself.

His character is an elf with a drinking problem, and orcish strength. He cuffed a halfling...he just wanted to give it a signal to stop being stupid...and it dealt like 20 damage and sent the little guy flying out of the building. *laughs* "Oops. Uh...come on, druid!" *grabs me by the arm* "We've got to go." And my character is, well, currently rather weak. Really weak. She'll be AWESOME when I get a few more levels on her, she'll be able to shapeshift. Right now, though...yeah. And she doesn't move very fast, so John's character keeps picking her up and running with her so she doesn't fall behind.

Then Jesse... I've known him since like 2nd grade, and he's kinda crazy but fun. His character glitters... it's a maenad... and people keep making fun of him for it. And Lee has a somewhat incompetent rogue. He's as new to the game as I am, and, er, gave his character high intelligence but low wisdom. So he's kinda scatterbrained. He's the one we use to check for traps. XD "Hey, rogue! You go first."

It's brilliant.

The game cannot have really much to do with talent, all you do is roll a die!

I would channel my energy to something more construtive.

Unconstructive for you, maybe. It's an exercise that helps you develop imagination and creativity, which would indeed be very constructive for people wanting to go into fields in which creativity is needed, such as writing or art. That's why I roleplay...because it helps me to get better at the skills I'm most likely going to need for later life.

Well, for people like me who want to be rich and not just creative. Go into engineering and such. Just think I might design the pace maker you will use one day. Your whole life might hinge on my intellligence. Think aboot that! So really creativity is not on the top of my list.

Well, I'd rather be at a job I like rather than one that requires sitting at a desk for hours on end doing nothing but staring at a screen, regardless of how much money I make. Besides, jobs like engineering require creativity as well, otherwise all of the products companies sold would just be small grey boxes.

I happen to enjoy engineering. Especially the "Engineering Post" club thingy at Alabama Power I go to. I do suppose that creativity is needed in engineering, but not this kind. An engineerer is defined as a person who fixes a problem with the materials around you. I enjoy solving problems and making things easy. At the Alabama Power Explorer's Post we rebuilt a generator and Built a RC Car. Although all of this is off topic, excuse me.

Although it may not sound like it, there is actually a lot of strategy and thought involved. Really, it's your mind versus the DM's. He/she gets you into trouble, and you have to figure out how to get out of it. It's not all rolling dice. It's storytelling. Just like what we do on this site. The dice are simply to keep things realistic; you will not always hit, you will not always succeed in everything you do. You build talents and get bonuses on the things you do well, and penalties on your weaknesses. That's all the dice are for. The rest is limited only by what you can think of, as long as the DM okays it.

I would suggest that you find something more constructive to do than criticize other people's hobbies. If you don't like it, that's your own problem, and you can just deal with it. This is not a debate forum.

That is just it, if you are lucky enough to get something good with the dice you just say you found a secert passage way that led you to a land of unicorns and sugar. If you get something bad with the dice well you are screwed and there is nothing you can do! This is not the agree forum either, but I will say, it must be good to have lasted so many years, and leave it at that.

There should be a Dungeons & Dragons club at school, don't you think Deathsong? I would join, because I'm pretty sure that if I were to start this game, I'd become hooked...

Hey guys (this is just directed to those of you who are a part of the group we're setting up), I mentioned the game to Kevin, my DM and the person who got me started playing, and he wants to join. He loves to play a character, but he usually gets stuck DMing instead. And he's willing to help your beginner DM, since he's done quite a bit of it.

Apparently he doesn't have the greatest opinion of sophomores. I guess it's up to you guys to change his mind.

I hope the first session isn't too dull. I want you guys to want to come back. So just know that every session will not consist of character creation and battling dust and cobwebs for the use of the basement.
