It is the year 2510 and a war between the known and the unknown had just caused the complete annihilation of a city. For days, you could hear the desolate cries of the residents who could not leave even with the thick smog and rubble littering the streets. Many people died especially the adults who sacrificed their own life to save their children. They heard of a place, a refuge to take their children. It was an abandoned warehouse, in the middle of the city – now known as the slums.
Among the massive amounts of children ranging from newborn to teenager were five special thinkers who could not bear the thought of ever leaving. All of them, somehow, were connected – mind, body and soul. Night after night, they would commune together in the hallway drawing along the paint chipped walls, with an old box of crayons, a vision of their future home would be. The buildings were taller, the homes more lavish and people of all races, all ethnicities, of all cultures would be welcome.
Ten years later … The headline on the Daily Metro read: Metropolis Cove, a city rebuilt, a society restored.

"It won't be this bad for long," he assured her. "Trust me."

"Okay..." Because I want to enjoy the dance with you. She held back a smile, excited for the event that was approaching slowly. She could already imagine him dressed for the dance and her cheeks warmed in anticipation.

Tre was already thinking about the dance. School started in less than a week, and the dance would be in that first week of school. He needed to get an edge-up.

In companionable silence, they walked slowly to the exit and Keziah glanced up at him. "To the bus station?"

With a nod, Keziah gripped the crutches and swung her legs in direction of the nearest bus station across the station.

After a few months of serious thinking and praying, Erina had finally decided to go ahead and try to have a baby. She'd weighed the pros and the cons of the decision, and the positives outweighed the negatives by a longshot. She was going to do it.
Erina sat on the examination bed, her bare feet swinging back and forth a foot above the ground. The room was cold and quite, and she could feel a chill traveling down her spine. Shavonne couldn't come with her because of school, and Mona was in Tokyo for a fashion shoot. And as for Jennifer and Camilla...well, she hadn't told them. Erina wasn't sure how she'd explain herself or whether she even wanted to.
The sound of the door opening interrupted her thoughts, and her gynecologist, Dr. Schneider, appeared with a wide smile. Her frizzy blond hair was packed in a messy bun atop her head, and her familiar gap-toothed grin almost immediately put Erina at ease.
"Soooooo," the good doctor began, propping herself up against the counter opposite the examination bed, "The results show that you're in excellent condition to get pregnant."
A breath of relief escaped Erina without her even realizing it. "Really? I am? she asked hopefully.
"Yupp. And it's great that you're doing this before your eggs dry up," Dr. Schneider giggled. "That was a joke. But it's true. So, how do you wanna go about this? Do you have someone in mind, or...?"
"Oh." Erina had no one in mind. She hadn't even thought that far. "That's not the only way, right?"
Her doctor's eyes widened. "What? In this day and age? Of course not! There are several other ways, but I'm a fan of dipping into the sperm bank."

Half an hour later, Erina left the hospital feeling overwhelmed. Dr. Schneider had given her a little booklet with the different donors and their traits listened.
Tall ones, short ones, fat ones, skinny ones. Black ones, Latino ones, athletic ones, intelligent ones. There were some who had straight hair, others with curly hair, and some with no hair at all. She had so many choices.
Tucking the booklet firmly beneath her arm, Erina headed out the doors to her car. This decision was going to take some time.
