Infected Vampires still look the same way they did before they received the bite. However, Blood Vampires inherit traits from their parents and still look like a humanoid being, which is why Vampires are hard to identify. Please look at the previous appearance sections on the other races to understand what Vampires are meant to look like.

The Vampire Disease

Vampires are usually classified as a race because they are literally undead beings that are immortal and are capable of using magic (so they are connected to Martoq’s life spirit). However, they cannot survive without blood and their desire for blood is great, it can completely change their personality if they are in the presence of it or are deprived from it.

Vampires were first discovered during the Black Silence, at first it was classified as a contagious disease because the first Vampire (an Undead witch known as the ‘Blood Mother’) could transmit vampirism through a ‘bite’. The beings that were bitten and turned into Vampires were known as ‘Infected Vampires’. However, vampires could have sexual intercourse with their own kind or other races and give birth to their own children, a characteristic which is not common in the Undead species and is one of the main reasons why Vampires are classified as a different race. Those children who were born as vampires, instead of changed into one through a bite, are known as ‘Blood Vampires’ (even if one of their parents is a different race, the Vampire disease gene would be dominant and they would still be classified as a Blood Vampire). All Vampires are immortal and they age until they reach maturity, from them on, they do not age physically and it is hard to identify a Vampire’s age through their appearance.

Most people would think that Vampires would be a dominant race and would be numerous; however, they are hunted and usually shunned by the other races because of their blood-lusting trait which makes them a threat and not welcomed anywhere. However, this does not stop Vampires from entering large settlements to feed on the civilians because if they reside in a remote area for too long, they will have to hunt eventually and this usually forces them to travel to large cities. They are usually killed and any infected being that has been bitten by a Vampire is killed because there is no known cure to the vampire disease. Blood Vampires are killed at birth (if they are discovered but it is hard to discover a Vampire because they look identical to any other humanoid race). Vampires usually live in small communities located in remote areas. Although they can breed and give birth to Blood Vampires (born vampires), it is hard for them to conceive because of their undead characteristics makes them less fertile.

Vampires can die from magic, weapons or any other physical means. They are weaker in sunlight but they can walk in it and survive in it, however, they are usually dormant during the day. They can eat and drink but it does not provide them with much use, they usually drink and eat for the taste and pleasure benefits. Their main food and drink substance is blood, they cannot live without it. A vampire must feed every fortnight to survive.

Blood Vampires inherit features of their appearance from the race which they are descendants from. The appearances of Infected Vampires do not change (apart from the eye colour), they look the same before they received the bite. However, when they are in the presence of blood and are overwhelmed by the uncontrollable urge to feed on another person, their eyes will glow gold (if they are a Blood Vampire) or red (if they are an Infected Vampire).

The Vampire Disease can only be found in some of the races.
The Urik, the Maeáns, the Fairies, the Ackyeir, the Lost (because they are undead and Vampires are a separate race that evolved from the Lost), the Elementals and some Ancients (depends on the nature of the Ancient) are immune to the disease.
But, a Vampire can breed with any of the races (apart from the Undead/Lost).

If you wish to create a character with the vampire traits, you put Vampire/(your character’s original race) in the ‘Race’ section but if you have a Blood Vampire, you should type in Blood Vampire and a race which your character is a descendant of – because they must have some features of one of the races endangered to the Vampire Disease.
