Here you can post bugs, glitches and shortcuts in Mario Kart 64
Unlock Marty:
Marty is the green thwomp behind the bars in Bowser's Castle. NOTE! THIS GLITCH IS VERY HARD TO DO, ONLY A FEW PERSONS IN THE WORLD HAVE DONE IT, I THINK.
1. Play as Bowser in Time Trials, Bowser's Castle.
2. In lap 1: Drive to the fire breathing Bowser statue and drive 3 laps around it counter-clockwise.
3. Drive the track backwards.
Use 3 mushroom up the stairs, this is the hardest with the glitch, but it's said that there is a glitch spot you can hit and get beyond the stairs. If you hit it, Lakitu will put you on the narrow bridge before the stairs.
4. Drive 3 laps around the fire breathing Bowser statue in the beginning again, but this time clockwise, not counter-clockwise.
5. Drive to Marty. You'll hear a 1up-sound when entering the castle.
6. Wait to the bars rise.
Lap skip in Frappe Snowland:
When starting the track, drive backwards to the bridge and turn to the right front corner (left in Mirror-mode). Jump off the bridge and out. NOT in the river. Don't touch the main track. Drive forward. It's important that you cross the starting line. Drive out of bounds. Do this 3 times. Afterwards, drive forward onroad and cross the line.
Royal Raceway warp:
You need a mushroom or a star to take this shortcut/glitch. It's much harder if you use a star.
When you drive to the end of the water, lokk for dark spots on the mountain wall closest to you at left side (right in Mirror-Mode). Aim for dark spot no. 2 from the right edge. NOTE! It may fail if you start off-road. It's best to start with the mushroom/star on the road. If you have a star, to make it easier with the acceleration, press A three times fast after aiming to the spot. To make it easier to find the right spot, the right spot is splitted in two parts.
See the start menu twice at once:
In the tracks which have a screen as you can see yourself on, as Luigi Raceway and Wario Stadium, press start. If you do it in mirror-mode, the start menu on the other screen will be mirrored too. This can be a little bit funny.
Drive to Peach's castle:
In Royal Raceway you can drive to the Super Mario 64 castle. After the bridge and the long jump you'll see the castle. There is a path which goes out at the right (left in Mirror-Mode). There you can drive. But you can't enter it.
Another Royal Raceway warp:
Drive to Peach's castle and drive out in the water outside the castle. Lakitu will pick you up and put you down far from there you fell out.
Wall jumping in Wario Stadium:
You can use any of the four bumps in the beginning to get over the wall. This skips half the track.
No speed boosting things are needed, but a mushroom or a star is helpful. This works also several areas in the track.
Fastest route in Yoshi Valley:
When you enter the maze, the shortest route out from the maze is right, left, right (you'll drive over a narrow bridge) and left.
Shortcut in Kalimari Desert:
NOTE: YOU NEED A STAR TO DO THIS SHORTCUT. IT WILL NEVER WORK IN TIME TRIALS. WORKS ONLY IN LAP 1 AND 2.
Drive there the train crosses the track for second time. Then drive left (right in Mirror-Mode) and follow the train's track. Use the star right before entering the tunnel. You are now where the train crosses the track for first time... in next lap.
Rainbow Road shortcut:
In the beginning there is a shortcut on left side (right in Mirror-Mode). Just jump over the fence and "fly" over to a lower track. NOTE: It doesn't work in 50CC, but it works in Time Trials.
Fast Items:
Once you have an item and it is scrolling to decide which one you get press ''Z'' a few times and the scrolling will stop so you get the Item twice as fast!
This glitch works in every Mario Kart game. I've tried it on these games: MK64, MKSC, MKDD and MKDS.
