>The Story of Annwn

For fifty years, the world has licked it's wounds. It has breathed easy.

And yet, Marik's son, born of both the Mornthay and Malshleth lines, has met an untimely end, and the child of the son, ascending the throne, dreams of a united Annwn, a new Kingdom of Andios, under his banner. The tribes of the steppes whisper of the second coming of Kitar. The Elves have rebuilt their army, and their navy stands strong as ever. The Dwarves have hammered weapons of war in the silence of their mountains for fifty years. The great kingdom of the Northmen has been quite for far too long, and the Merendi Coast fears another Great Migration. Dark things, better left undisturbed deep below have begun to stir.

The Great Archmagi of Meridyl, and your predecessor, Elquestor, through his syght, told of the 4th, and final Age. The Age of Apocalypse. Many scholars of history and religion now feel, the Age of Might may well have ended with the shattering of the Blood Sword.....

Getherodi Yar, the sovereign king of the elves of StarDeep, sat wearily upon his throne. He cursed the impatience in his bloodline.....moreso in his daughter....on his grandmother. She had dallied with a human, and that had produced his mother, the former Queen. His father had been good elven stock. Nicknamed 'Stalker', by his brethren in the Ever Rangers, it was only through his blood, and the efforts of the Northern Knights, over half a century ago, that had seen Geth fit to rule. His wife, and his only partner, was full blooded elven. From a family who'd long dreamed of holding more power. Their marriage had been one of convenience for both families. The Yar's remained on the throne, despite blood imputities, and his wife's family gained substantial influence.

As such, Geth's daughter had still an eighth of her blood human. And the impatience showed.

Her newest desire was a dragon egg. Geth knew this could only lead to bad things. But he'd, sadly, never denied his only daughter anything. (thank the Gods he had a son....)

So, he'd asked some advisors to find a few stalwart elves to go on a quest.....

They'd selected three fairly new members of the Ever Rangers.....but they seemed proficient.

Based on some good advice, though, he'd chosen to send his daughter with them. She'd either grow up, or remain spoiled and give up the idea. Either would be a victory.

His senechal alerted him that the three rangers had arrived, and that his daughter was waiting for his call in the next room...

Kai walked up towards the thone, up through the long room that it was in. He wasnt exactly sure what was going on, he had only been given his summons by the king and noting more after he returned from patrol. As he approached the throne, he didnt quite know what to expect.

He went down on one knee as he was in front of the king. He lowered his eyes to the floor. When he spoke, he spoke in the elvish tongue.

"You summoned me your majesty?"

Aeglin followed Kai as the walked through the throne room. Kai was his senior in the ranks by a few years, so Aeglin allowed him to be at the head. When they got to the king Aeglin followed Kai's lead and bowed. In the fleeting glimpse Aeglin caught of the king he felt that he was serving a man who was just and fair. The king was very regal looking, and every bit deserving of royalty.

Aeglin waited for the king to tell him the reason why they were summoned. He stared at the floor, but the stare was blank. He was thinking about possible reasons for them being...none of them good.

The eyes gazed down from the pedastal. "I did indeed, worthy Ranger. I have a job for you and your friends. One I am assured you are worthy of."

He walked slowly down the steps.

"My daughter has decided that a dragon egg is of some use in her mystical studies." A lie, but they didn't need the truth... "I have selected the three of you to go along with her on a quest to recover one. Your primary mission is to keep my daughter safe....your secondary mission is to help her procur an egg."

"If you are successful, each of you will recieve 100 gold, and a special gift from your King. Are you worthy of this task?"

Kai stood up but continued to look at the floor in a sign of respect. A quest to retrieve a dragons egg? That would be difficult, dragons were not beasts to cross the wrong way, he would have to be prepared for anything in order to do this task.

"I am your majesty, I will go with her to retrieve this egg, and I promise she will come to no harm. My only request is some time before we leave to prepare, organize and gather supplies, so we may be at our best in order to finish this task."

It was a fairly small request. He only wished to be ready, well trained and prepared. The last thing he wanted was to be caught unawares by a dragon. It would be imperitive that they planned this out well before setting off.

Aeglin listned to the quest the king had given them. It would be hard and very deadly. Aeglin wondered why he had been one of the ones chosen to go on this quest. He thought over all of the other able Ever rangers who could go in his stead. He was also worried about dragons, they were beings of great power, the quest could easily go awry, and everyone would die. Aeglin did not want the princesses life to be in his hands, and on his head.

However the quest had been accepted, so Aeglin thought about what he must do to prepare...

"Your majesty it would be no greater honor then to protect your daughter and aquire the egg she needs." He was excited, patrols were one thing but a royal quest and condsidering none of them were high in the ranks yet would be interesting. Well interesting or a quick way to a horribly painful death, either way was an adventure. They could be prepared and gone before too long, and if successful this would certainly help them in more ways than one.

"You may have one week to train, and equip yourselves as you are able. Then you will escort the Princess Celebrost to locate and procure a dragon egg."

The king nodded briefly, indicating he felt the interview was at it's close.

Kai bowed low again before beginning to walk backwards out of the presense of the King.

"Yes your majesty, I will not fail you or princess Celebrost on this quest. "

When Kai was a good distance away, he turned around and walked out the door at the end of the room. He thought ahead, a large amount of preparation would need to be done. He had training to do and supplies that he needed to purchase before they left. All in all, he had to get started right away.

After following Kai out of the room Aeglin looked at him, "Will you help me train? I think it will be more fun if we add some friendly competition. What do you say?"

While waiting the response he turned to walk towards the store. "I have to get some supplies, I shall await your answer back at the barracks," he told Kai. With that he entered the store to purchase items useful for their quest.
