Word Count Status, How is *your* word count coming along?

Okay, so I thought I'd put this here in this forum, because word counts can go either way (though I'm hoping that everyone gets to the 50k mark in the end, of course).

Last night, at 0:00 a word war started for those of my region (Europe: Netherlands & Belgium) that were interested.

(For those of you unfamiliar with word wars, a word war takes place at a predetermined time, for a predetermined duration. In our case, we held it from midnight to 1 am. The objective is to write as many words as you can during that time, competing with every other participant in the word war.)

Initially, I intended to join in the effort, but during the day before I had no real idea of what I was going to have to write, and decided not to join (after shamefully not working on my story ideas all day).

However, at 0:10 or so, I joined the IRC channel we use and got inspired. I decided to join. So, at 0:15, I started writing like a madman and joined the word war!

And, surprisingly, things just sort of happened. I wrote, and wrote, even though I had no real idea of what to write things pretty much worked out.

So, at 1am, my word count stuck at 2,199. A fine beginning of November!

So, what are your word count statuses? Keep us all updated on your word counts, and perhaps offer some kind words of inspiration or motivation to those whose word counts aren't quite what they could be.

Holy crap! That's a lot!

I started at midnight and finished twenty minutes later with 525 words. As soon as I have finished the play I have to read I'll continue my writing.

Believe it or not, the winner of our wordwar got about 3500 words in those 60 minutes

I now have 1915 words and I'll probably add a few hundred tonight before going to bed.

Wow, that's really impressive -- all of those word counts! Getting anything down in writing is impressive, in my opinion.

Thanks for explaining about the word wars, Athi -- I had heard the phrase before, but didn't know how it worked, with a time limit like that.

I wonder if we should have one for those of us on this forum sometime -- such as pick one hour during the week when you want to time yourself and use whatever word count you end up with -- you can't do it again, just the one time, some time during the week. Then, we can share results! Since we're in different time zones, that might work better than trying to get everyone to write at the same actual time.

I am sadly stuck on 8,737 words. There is just TOO much coursework to be done right now. This may actually *sobs* be the first year I won't make it.

Well, I'm still stuck at my initial word count. I'm going to be continuing to write from today, though. The past week and a bit has been extremely hectic, a lot of things flying about my head as I'm trying to manage my position as chairman. The foundation for which I work has it's 20th anniversary at the end of this month and there's a crazy amount of work to be done to get everything in place .

But I'm trying to be optimistic.

Good job on getting to 10k, and on the 8.7k! Be sure to work and increase those word counts so we can get to the 50k at the 30th!
