New FS2 Series Script
http://www.steviejack.net/fishsimxp/fs2series.aspx

I’ve been working on a new script for a while; this one is a result of the ideas that accumulated during the last 2 unfinished projects, it’s a series of matches that are based on your 5 biggest fish.

I have released this one a little slower than the last 2 projects because the others didn’t get finished, I wanted to know that this one was a competition I could get behind and stay excited about.

It has its own point system and does not overlap CEA3 although it does share some key components behind the scene.

The points are as follows, 1 point for joining, 1 point if you win and 1 point for every angler under you in the final results, so for example you have 10 anglers fishing, if you win you would receive 11 points.

There are ways to lose points, 5 fish are required for every match, for every slot left open you lose 1 point, you also lose a point for not having any weight.

If you join a match and do not catch a thing you would lose 5 points.

Scenario, you fish a match all alone and do not catch…
No fish – 5
No weight – 1
Joined +1
You must have weight above 0 to be considered a winner
Your point result -5

Scenario 2, 10 angler’s fish and you place 3rd with only 3 fish caught
Join +1
-2 for the two missing fish
+7 for the anglers under you
Your point result +6

You can move in and out of matches as long as time is left on the clock, this means you can fish many matches at one time…

A few new features are planning to be added such as a way to keep up with your active matches, and a better match result page.

I also did a quick silly You Tube video that can be accessed from the FS2 Series page, this was only a test, and I may do a weekly video to make notes on changes, and to basically keep things interesting.

Enjoy,

Stevie

Before I head out to work I wanted to make a note...

You will see that only around 8 matches will be active and only around 30 matches will be listed total including the results, this can be any number but I felt this was a comfortable number.

Match 1000 has just been removed from the results, when they reach 9999 it starts over at 1000, this keeps the match ID's the same length and easy to click on.

Every time a match moves into the results a new match is created.

I see now I am going to have to do a top 10 in the standings then have a separate page that lists the rest, I can do this pretty easy but it will be later after work or tomorrow morning.

have fun,

Stevie

Well, I got some looking to do, you can see a few things went a miss with the scores and placing of the winners.

The matches are sorted by points which should be sorted by weight, not sure how I missed that, the points seem to be off too though.

I didn't have this many while testing so things are different, sorry about this, will get something sorted asap.

:)

Another look at the point values, there were a few things that were wrong in the logic, I was able to straighten it all out (I hope), also I have had to think about ties, this flows all the way down to the last angler, it also now ignores giving points to positive weight anglers based on no weight anglers under them, example, if there are 20 anglers fishing a match but only a few with accumulated weight, points will be based on anglers with weights only.

'FS2 Series Official Rules'
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
If any rules change they will be edited here, visit frequently for updated explanations
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Positive Point Values
+1 point for joining match
+1 for winning a match or tied with winner
+1 point for every angler under you that has a lower weight than you, tied anglers receive same weight based points, no points for anglers under you without any weight, if 10 angler’s fish and 9 of them tie, the last place angler is not considered 2nd place but rather 10th and points will be given as such.

Negative Point Values
-1 point per open fish slot (up to -5 if missing all fish)
-1 point for no weight (this is automatic negative 5 for the match, +1 join, -5 no fish, -1 no weight)

*Edit* June 26th 2012
If you fish a match and you are the only angler you do not get the extra point for winning, with all 5 fish you only get 1 point instead of 2 if fishing alone.
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

It’s a little more complicated on the code side of things than I first anticipated but I hope it’s now working properly.

Consider This
It is sometimes going to be just as important to catch all five fish as it is to get the best weight, if you win the match with only 1 fish you could have less points than others in that same match.

Strategy
It’s all strategy, there is a lot of risk here and that was the intention, you can lose points faster than you can accumulate them if you’re not careful, make sure your venue is downloaded and can be downloaded and installed without errors before joining a match, don’t jump in matches that have a January ‘Sim Month’ unless you think you can catch fish in that month, and look at the match duration and the time left, you wouldn’t want to join a match that has 10 minutes left that was 10 hours long with 15 anglers already fishing.

Finally
I can’t change the match files that were already processed, I can however sort the match weights properly but the points are final, most of these were done wrong and after I know the new points work I can reset everything.

I have also added a ‘Match Finalized’ in the results so that you can better judge when a match ended…

Alright, if you read all that great if not maybe you skimmed it, the new series is not off to a great start but I hope you give it a chance; there might be a few more errors, none this big though I hope.

Thanks for your understanding,

Stevie

Everything seems to be fine after 24 hours of testing the new settings so a reset has been done.

There is an unused setting for the series to be over that's set to 1 month, this will be finished sooner or later so that a series winner will be declared and automatic resets can be performed and maybe a series league table, also Ive added a style setting, this could be used to force fishing styles in matches, it's not currently used but it may be implemented to regulate difficulty.

Good luck,

Hey Andy, I’d have to know all the checksums to peg names to set that up, would be a good idea but it’s not done, this means you can fish any peg you like, the check sums are saved though, in the match results there made known to the public.

So the answer is, all matches are any peg

The system randomly chooses a venue from all the venues inside the CEA3 database, these have the ref and venue name only…

I have wanted to collect data like sea, river lake etc… including the peg to checksum and difficulty, using user votes and input, maybe someday I will do this

Good Luck!

I have added a 'Peg: Any' and a 'Fishing Style: Any', I may use the style one day, thanks again for the question, I sometimes look at things so long I do not realize how it it may be perceived to others.

Ive redesigned the FS2 Series page to work with HTML 1.0 Transitional, this means that it looks better in IE, if you were put off by the way it looked in Internet Explorer when it was designed in HTML5 give it another look.

FS2 Series

P.S. Looking for ideas about the points, I guess they can just keep accumulating, in the past Ive done point splits to keep everyone tight in some competitions, this keeps the lead angler in the lead but tightens everyone up so the leader dose not run too far away, that's a possibility.

The fishing style has been implemented in the matches; the style will not always match the venue, select matches carefully.

I implemented this late at night because all another times someone was always fishing, I still caught 2 anglers in matches, sorry guys, but it looks like you got lucky with ledger though.

If this is absolutely hated I can remove it, but I think it adds a bit of skill to the mix, those 5 fish just got a little harder. I have mentioned doing this a while back, 2 posts up. :)

Alright, so it's a no go I guess, just thought I'd try it, I was just fixing the page for internet explorer and thought I'd put it in to see, it didn't take long and admittedly it put me off I already lost 5 points :(.

I got an email about it too, thanks for the feedback...

Ive been looking into some changes but there going slow...

Ive changed the match times to be as long as 5 to 7 days, this should give plenty of time to fish when you have the time without chancing the -5 penalty for no fish.

I have also added a 'Strength of Anglers' (All Match Anglers Series Points Averaged) to the match results, this setting is being tested and may be used to aid in points distribution.
