I have finally got to a place in this project where I feel very comfortable with the security of email storage and have decided to release the SJNet News Letter to the public.
I have been working on this for a few days now and have about 10 subscribers already and sent one news letter out successfully.
The idea behind the news letter is to keep the community informed, even the ones that may have not logged onto forums in a while but might check there email.
Norman had a great idea a while back called the ‘fslist’, this ‘Simmers mailing list’ was a well planned out project but relied on other simmers to contribute and this got slow so in the end it was decided to be stopped. I think I got this right, I am sure Norman will correct me if I have it backward. :)
Scott Washer also had a good idea; he created the FSMag or FishSim magazine, this also depended on simmers to come up with ‘news’. I think Scott just got real busy with life as he is a young man in school and probably chasing the ladies by now so the FSMag is not around any longer.
Well I am going to give it a try now and with the past events I am not sure if it will last long but what I have done is created a set of scripts (more like an entire web application) that collects emails and then a admin section allows me to create a post like this one and send it, it is sent to everyone on the email list separately.
In the first letter I mentioned the new FS Support forum that has just started up on the fishsim.net site. Not much but a start, so if you have a new match or a special match or even a new forum make sure it gets in the letter, the letter will not be a daily maybe not even a weekly thing and you can unsubscribe easily if you decide that you don’t need the News Letter.
Have a look on the Posting Board for more information…
