I live in Germany (Bavaria), but work in Brandenburg, (Berlin), we are now going through our 13th week of cold weather, all the lakes round here are frozen over and have been from before Christmas, reports are coming in of thousands of fish spotted dead in the lakes, some of these (Lakes) are very large, over the past few years some good fishing, with large carp being caught, I and my friends are waiting with baited breath on wether we will be able to fish this year or not...its hard to describe my feelings on this, I just hope some lakes have survived. what do others think over this, more news as the weather warms up.

Never did belive in Global Warming

I don't believe this global warming rubbish either !! I say its the circle off life and this has been the pattern for many years..instead of faking global warming and blaming humans for it all why not spend the money on preparing for extreme weather conditions which will happen again.

As for the fish we can only hope that enough will survive to reproduce and give you some good fishing.

all the best

Tend to agree with you Jester, Sad point is its just started snowing again, don't see any good coming out of this, lakes frozen over, covered in snow, no light, plants die, will go down to local tackle shop next week, and have a chat with the owner, have to renew my fishing permit anyway..... tight lines to you all

Just been to have a look at two fair sized waters we fished last year, still not completely free of ice, 4/5 still frozen, but the outlook on these both is bleak. The surface you can see is covered with dead fish, all types and sizes, on the other hand looked at one yesterday, still mainly frozen, but the grounds of an angling club are on part of the lake, and only saw one dead carp.

All we can hope for is nature recovering as it does so often, perhaps the owners are looking at restocking...if its down to cost perhaps a syndicate could be set up to help the process.
I hope for you there is more good news than bad from here on in.

all the best

Read a report in the paper last Wednesday, that Rangdorfer see, about 10kms away have reported removing over 23 tons of dead fish, its quite a large lake, but only up to 2 - 2.5 m deep. The pictures that were in the paper showed carp that looked to be over 30lb, also last weekend I took a trip to a collection of 7 lakes, the one we fish often seemed to be unaffected, but 3 others we looked at seem to have been hard hit.

here is a link to Rangsdorfer see

The report is in German but the picture and video tell their own story

Turns out things are not so bad, Yes Rangsdorfsee was hit badly, but the authoroties are looking into this as it seems to have been over stocked, have fished a few lakes since, they are still producing carp, no big ones though, but they, here are allways harder to catch....
