[+] PERSONALITY
Personality Description;; Charlie is a no nonsense kinda woman. She doesn’t take kindly to people mucking up her workplace either. And by mucking up I mean organizing. Her clutter is her clutter for a reason, she knows where everything is. This goes for her life too. She seems harried and her schedule is hectic but she’s happy, she likes being busy and on her off days ends up coming into work anyway because she just can’t sit still for the fear that something will go horribly wrong if she’s not there to just watch them.

It’s not that she’s a perfectionist; she just takes her work to heart and hates it when it’s only a half ass job. It it’s going to be a bad job it’s because she fell asleep trying to fix it the night before and didn’t quite drink enough coffee. She can usually be seen talking to herself about her latest project or going off about the price of equipment and supplies around the city.

Charlie can be incredibly stubborn but on matters that you’d never understand why or how, like why something is the way it is, or how something works. She’s not a very physical person but can talk her way out of most fights or confrontations; she’s pretty eloquent for a 23 year old. Her mind is always firing off ideas and sometimes she drives her employees and friends up the wall when she starts talking about something. It’s not that she’s talking, but she’s usually going to fast for them to follow the conversation which ends up with a frustrated and upset Charlie.

Her projects, are her life. She talks to them as she would children and takes very good care of them, nearly to the point that those around her often thinks she’s loosing her mind. She’s quite clever, and hell, she’d have to be to do half the crap she does, she’s also very smart, though she doesn’t like to show it off to people in ways any different from her projects and odd-ball inventions. She’s a peculiar person, no doubt about it, but all that she does is connected to a deeper, darker side of her life that she shares with no one, because no one would possibly understand.

History;; Charlie started out as any normal little girl would, she was born, and doted upon by her family and grew to be a happy, bouncy, clever little girl. Instead of playing with dolls like her sister Rose, Charlie preferred puzzles and coloring and even tinkering with some of her brother Paul’s models. As she grew older she was one of the smartest kids in the class and of course that didn’t surprise her parents at all, but they were a tad bit worried about their daughters suffering social skills.

Charlie wasn’t a fighter and she wasn’t shy, she was just uninterested in playground politics and generally avoided people and played by herself, or was off studying a caterpillar or other life form in a corner. She never understood why people acted the way they did but she supposed that that was just the way that they were. Even as a child she was oddly observant.

As Charlie grew older, she got smarter and eventually became very involved in her various shop classes and studio sessions, inventing and sketching and generally amazing her teachers, not because she was smart, or that she was a girl but that she was so passionate about this strange hobby she had picked up as a child. She was an inventor at heart and while none of her inventions ever really came to light she enjoyed building them and making them work, even for a short time. But even as she grew older still and teacher after teacher praised her exceptional ability’s and talents she began to think that there was something else she should be doing.

All throughout high school this strange feeling nagged her till one day, the day after she graduated; it hit her like a semi truck. The night of Charlie’s graduation, she and her parents were driving back from their grandparents house in the suburbs when a semi truck came screaming around the bend and slammed into the SUV. Charlie’s parents died instantly and so should have Charlie, but something happened that even she could not explain.

As Charlie watched the grill of the semi truck barreling inwards she felt the world slow around her and she had only enough time to scramble from the backseat of the car out onto the side of the road before the truck and her parents went over the cliff. Shocked, dazed and nicked by bits of asphalt, glass and metal, Charlie could only sit in the middle of the road, clutching her mother’s jacket wondering just what the hell had happened. That’s when a hooded figure approached her. She thought that this was surely the end, that Death had come to claim her.

But even as the figure inched closer to her she realized that the jacket she held in her trembling hands was pulsing red. With a shriek she dropped the jacket and found that the hooded figure seemed to be studying her intently. Then the figure withdrew from its cowl a large book and dropped it unceremoniously at her feet and vanished into the shadows. Charlie reached out and took the book just as a cop care came careening about the corner and almost ran her over, stopping inches from Charlie’s shoulder as she huddled, waiting for the end.

She was never able to explain how she ended up on the side of the road while her parents and the trucker were dead in the ditch but no one brought it up considering how absolutely lucky she was to be alive. Charlie hid the strange book in her mother’s jacket after it became apparent that no one else could see the eerie red color it emitted.

Throughout the next six months Charlie’s life was a blur of activity that kept her from the red jacket and the strange book within it. However whenever Charlie was out she could see glowing red objects and to be honest it freaked her out. She would have become a recluse entirely if not for her brother and sister who were very understanding and caring at the time, knowing that their baby sister was almost taken away from them too.

Eventually after Ralph and Darla’s estate was settled, Charlie found herself with a small bookshop her father had owned and enough money to put her through college. Rose came to own another business her mother owned which was a laundry and tailor shop, as well as taking custom orders. (Rose was always good at making clothes and runs this business on the side as she peruses her career as a costume maker for a Broadway production company.) Paul took his share of the estate and funneled it into wise investments and later bought both buildings that his sisters own so that they would not have to pay rent anymore. He then took part of the money and opened a small restaurant and is living happily with his wife and baby son.

Since Charlie had no idea how to run a business, she relied heavily on her brother and sister to show her how it was done (both having experience from their parents). Eventually Charlie learned the ropes and began to run it herself, between classes and at night when she worked the register. Since her life was so busy she forgot all about the book in her mother’s jacket till she found it exactly a year after she had received it.

(This part of her history is the RP Sample)

After reading the strange book Charlie threw herself whole heartedly into her work and converted part of the shop to handle some strange second hand bric-a-brac that began showing up here and there. The employees were instructed to sell only one per person, no exceptions as she read up on death and all the things in religion that concerned it. She became quite learned in methods from the Far East which explained that a person’s soul is always their soul, they just have to find themselves in a new life.

It was all very confusing but Charlie was getting the hang of it. For almost two years she collected as many souls as she could, estate sales, scanning obits, everything, for a while her employees thought she might be a serial killer of some sort till they realized that even a smart girl like Charlie couldn’t get away with THAT many deaths.

But like other jobs, there is a definite downside to Charlie’s if she fails to gather the souls before the Agents of Hell, not only is a soul lost forever but the darkness gains ground in the mortal realm. Once, while retrieving a soul object, Charlie was beset upon by a demon that almost killed her if she hadn’t beaten the crap out of it with the baseball bat she had taken with her.

Charlie is not psychic, not is she able to read minds or control people, she doesn’t even know when a person is dying. She is a Death Merchant, a Soul Protector, someone gifted with the ability to see the souls of the departed and to guide them to their next incarnation.

It can be a dirty job, but someone has to do it.

Currently Charlie is studying anything to do with mechanics and business, she’s even picking up a few tips from the store owners around the city. She still loves to tinker and invent and keeps trying to think of new ways to do her other job….

[+] ANYTHING ELSE
Sample RP;; Charlie held the book in trembling hands, envisioning the cuts and blood that had decorated them exactly a year ago as she sat in the middle of the road and held this book, given to her surely by Death Himself. As she slowly sat on a worn leather couch, her fingers running tenderly over the raised brass decorations she found herself silently sobbing at the memories she still held.

When her tears finally dried themselves she found the latch on the large black cover and neatly flipped it open. Dust rose from the yellow pages, painted with ominous pictures in dull colors that proclaimed: “Now you are Death, here’s what you need to know”. Charlie wanted to put the book away and never read it again, but those words were mesmerizing and soon she had read the entire thing cover to cover, once, twice…almost ten times before she put the book down and took a deep shuddering breath.

She wasn’t death…she was something different, something better? Or something worse? She didn’t know. The book said that it was her job to collect all the glowing red objects she found and pass them off to their rightful bodies. Because the glowing red jacket wasn’t just a creepy pulsing reminder of the night that her mother died, it was her mother’s soul. She was a soul transporter, but the book called her a Death Merchant, someone who took the soul of the dead and protected it till it could be given to it’s next incarnation.

It had several suggestions for how she should go about her new job and all of them made perfect sense and as strange and unreal and crazy as it sounded, Charlie knew that she had to get to work before any more souls were lost because of her.

Other Info?;; YES! This idea was taken from the book called: “A Dirty Job” by Christopher Moore, I finished reading it recently and thought that Charlie would be a great addition to the site (and I just realized that I accidentally named my character after his main character…crap…) ANYWAY the idea if Death Merchants and Souls in material objects is COMPLETELY and UTTERLY his idea and his idea alone. And if you get a chance to read his fascinating book please do because it is a GOOD book!
