I propose having a consistent monetary system, the net worth of specific characters will of course be left up to them, but currently there doesn't seem to be a way to tell if that gold piece you toss to the barkeep is enough to buy a dozen rounds of the finest elven wine to everyone in the bar, or just enough to keep him from spitting in your mug of grog before he lazily slams it in front of you.

Things to consider defining
Average unskilled labour wages:
Average tradesman wages:
Average proffessional wages (Alchemist, falconeer, doctor, etc.):

Currency sets including various denominations, either by location, or universally.

Approximate value ranges of trade goods, most notably;
Foodstuffs
Spices
Precious metals and stones
fabrics
dyes
housing
slaves (this may be determined as part of a projection of how much labour can be gained from them)
animals

Some ancient currency concepts to consider are, seashells, beads, lengths of rope (I kid you not, I've read of such currency existing), precious metals, coins and sections of coins (a bit is literally a piece of a coin ussually measuring about one eighth of the coin, hence the piece of eight), spices and herbs were often interchangable with currency, scales of large beasts, that's all I've got at the moment.

Something also to consider is licensing requirements to deal in such wares, and the presence of tax collectors and coin changers.

Finished goods are easy enough to figure out, just add double the wages to the price to the amount of theoretical time it would take to make the finished good.

Some other things to consider, though these would probably be difficult to assign values to.
Medical supplies
Spell casting items (spell books, scrolls, the tutalage of an elder etc.)
Magical weapons
Other miscellanous magical equipment
Parts of rare or mystical creatures

--------------------
Need a monster to slay?
A guardian to protect that magical item?
A drunken slob to start off that bar-brawl?
A toadying imp to deliver a message?

PM me if you have a creature that needs a soul, I prefer to make my own to fill the particular situation, but will happily meet any conceptual requirements. Check my character profile often for character updates.

I would most definately agree... if you put it together and get things sorted out I will help you implement it.

Put it together, me? surely I am unworthy of such a task, and certainly I cannot act without the aproval of mighty Tekar Nayr.

Though if that great lord of Keehrr were to assign me the task I would most certainly add my humble and ultimately worthless opinion, if it should please. ((and by add my ultimately worthless opinion I mean do all the work and take none of the credit))

((I am going to have to wait either way Gale, as it is up to Tekar Nayr how he wants to do denominations and whether there is a universal currency or one for each, or a combination of nations))

Another good point, but I'm sure he would approve... So we should ask him, but you might think some about it first to give a solid foundation. I don't know....

I was actually planning on doing something like this. If you, or anyone else, for that matter, want to create some kind of monetary system, that would be fine. However, it should probably be by weight, some of the coins from different countries/continents are heavier or worth more than ones from others. If you think up a system I can approve of, we will use it. smile.gif

That does make exchange rates a lot easier, are currencies generally to be made of precious metals then?
I would still like a definate ruling on which nations have their own currencies and who the minters are, and whether or not segments of coins have value, and whether or not defacing them is a crime.

We could eventually have new sections in each nation under the world information section.
Marketplace (Details a list of trade goods, their value, imports and exports, employment rates, etc.)
Government (Details the type of government structure, how they derive their power, and (possibly) who the current people in power are)
Law (Details any laws specific to this nation, who enforces them, and possibly what the penalties are for breaking them)

For now I will simply use the following standard currency marker $, i.e. a chicken is worth 20$, we will decide later what $ is.

Wages
Boys:6-12$ weekly
Girls:4-8$ weekly
(Those are for tasks normally assigned to a person of that sex, and age)
Unskilled labour: 15-25$ weekly
(These ussually mark apprentice positions, or swampers and go-fers)
Skilled Labour: 100-800$ weekly
(Tradespersons to mercenaries, these are the wages of a seasoned proffessional)
Exotic Labour: 1000+$
(Exotic skilled workers that typically only nobility can afford (and in often cases would want to afford) exotic beast tamers, viziers, renowned alchemists, assassins, and the like)

Drinks:
the first value is by serving the second by pound if purchased in bulk.
water (crystal clear, highly variable price) 0-5$/0-1$
Grog (Water with a touch of rum): 0.5$/0.1$
Beer (Ales, and other non-fine alcohol): 1$/0.1$
Cheap Wine (See Beer)
Spirits (High proof alcohol, and fine beers often unnavailable in bulk) 8-20$/0.2-2$
Fine Wine (Non-denomination vintage wines of common quality) 10-50$/1-8$
Exotic Wine (The very finest, generally not available in bulk) 100$-priceless/unavailable

Foods:
the first value is by serving the second by pound if purchased in bulk.
Dinner (A prepared meal at an inn or cantina) 10-20$/unavailable
((I might have a mind to establish prices for the following in time))
Loaf of bread
A whole pie or cake (Divide price by piece numbering)
Common Pastries
Exotic Pastries (Suitable for royalty)

The following are listed by pound and are generally unavailble by serving
Grains (Rice, wheat, barley, rhye, etc.)
Local Tubers (Potatoes, carrots, turnips, etc.)
Local Beans and Peas
Local Small vegetables (Tomatoes go here)
Local Small fruits
Local large fruits and vegetables (Squash, pumpkin, watermelon)
Local Berries
Foreign vegetables
Foreign fruits
Exotic Fruits/vegetables
(Meat prices vary by cut)
Raised Poultry
Raised Pork
Raised Fish (If even eaten)
Raised Other (Everything from rabbit to beef)
Wild Bird
Wild Pork
Wild Fish
Wild Exotic
Wild Other (Elk, mountain goat, etc.)

Livestock, and other animals (A trained animal is generally worth more, for purebred animals multiply by 5-10, for exotic, assume purebred and multiply by 5 as well)
Chicken $20
Duck
Cat
Dog
Horse
Mule
Donkey
Heiffer
Bull
Pig
Fish

(Predators and combat trained animals are a lot more valuable)
Other small birds
Other small mammals
Other small reptiles
Other large birds
Other large mammals
Other large reptiles

And the list goes on when I get a chance.
