Songs were used to whip up patriotic fervour but were ridiculed as JINGOISM by enlightened workers. During the American War of Independance some 23,000 sailors absconded whilst blockading American ports! Press-ganged ! With the abolition of the Press-gang other means were brought in an attempt to draw in the gullible to false patriotism ....i.e. CANNON FODDER. |
