CONTEST ANNOUNCEMENT

Portions of the following were taken from Scorchy’s walk-through of Knights of the Old Republic II.

http://lparchive.org/LetsPlay/KOTOR%202/Up...2014/index.html

Let’s talk a little about the Serrocans. Their planet was shared by humans and Sterebs, a kind of pink hairless wookiee-type alien. It was a major battle site during the Mandalorian Wars; naturally, they got their asses kicked by the Mandalorians and ended up scattered around the galaxy.

You meet them on Nar Shaddaa in the Refugee Sector . . .

... and you can eventually finagle a meeting with the leader of the Seroccan veterans ...

user posted image

They all have the Chinese-looking head models from KOTOR 1

Did you know you could get the Serroco thugs to attack the Exchange?

Serocco Leader: “I heard you've been looking for me.”
Exile: [Persuade/Intimidate] “Stop harassing the refugees.”
Serocco Leader: [Success] “Hmm... Then what would you propose me and my men do?”
Exile: “Why don't you deal with the Exchange? I know they're encroaching on your space here. I have a plan to drive them out of this sector.”

Serocco Leader: “Do you now? Suppose I were interested. What's this plan of yours?”
Exile: [Force Persuade] “Attack the Exchange now.”

Which is where you'd fail because the game was bugged. However, Darth Stoney has fixed the bug which allows this to happen:

Serocco Leader: [Success] “We'll go and make our move. Men, let's take them out!”

You could persuade them to attack from the north or south, or from both sides. Presumably they’d kill each other off and make it easier for you to move in on the Exchange yourself. It seemed like lot of the code for this was there, it just got cut at the last minute. Stoney has repaired the code and here’s where you readers could assist the project. Stoney needs a video (which he wil convert into a BIK file) that will show the results of the raid. I imagine with so many folks creating great movies on the boards here that at least some of you would jump at the chance of creating your own scene that would actually be seen in the game by many players. The maximum time of your video submission should be two (2) minutes.

Those not wishing to read SPOILERS should not continue reading.

Welcome back, brave souls. Let’s continue to the SPOILERS!

As stated before, the Seroccans got their asses handed to them by the Mandalorians (from orbit.) Needless to say, these Serrocan veterans won’t fare too well in the attack against the Exchange – no matter which way they attack the Exchange.
They won’t take out the Exchange leader – Saquesh (link: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Saquesh) – but they will wipe out a few Gamorreans and random thugs - generally making it easier for the player to deal with the Exchange in case you need to attack them. Heroic deaths of brave soldiers dying, perhaps some slow motion kills if you’re so inclined.

If you wish to use mods to make some of the Seroccans a bit different, that would be fine as well. (Perhaps altering some of their hairstyles or their uniforms a bit?)

All serious entries will be considered. The best submission will be converted from a movie file to a BIK file and played after above conversation fires in the game.

Interesting, this could be a good animation project to do in 3ds Max. Since I believe that's how Obsidian and Bioware did the Bink Movies.

I'll give it a shot when I have time.

Thanks for taking an interest, Ragnarok!

Hey folks, please note that I haven't posted a deadline here. I'll get one from Stoney to post here (and in the original post) as soon as I get it.

I will suggest a month as many of you have other projects going on.

Hmm, well I am interested, but does it have to be a bink movie like rag said, with 3ds max, or something like the ingame cutscenes?

I will have the format and size requirements on this thread - hopefully - by the end of the day. (Of course, I'll also add them to the initial post as well.)

You can render then in most any format you feel gives the best quality.(also filesize may be a factor) I can convert them to a .bik later(It's the only way they play ingame).
Which is a shame in that when converted they will lose quality and the game only plays them at 800x600 no matter what resolution they are.

Sounds interesting. I might take a crack at it, if I find time between the various other scenes I have to script...

Although on a related note, does anyone know how to properly use the CutsceneAttack action? I've never gotten it to work properly, but it's supposed to be able to control what animation is used and how much damage is done... anyway... if anyone knows, I'd be interested, I have a few suspicions of what I might have done wrong, though...

Anyway, sounds interesting. Are there going to be multiple videos, depending on how you tell them to attack?

The script will work like this . . . as shown in the pictures above, the player decides which way they'll make the attack. It will be scripted that you see the soldiers depart the Serocco compound in the manner you suggest. If you suggest they attack from the north, they'll leave from the appropriate exit. Then it would cut to the attack sequence that people will be recording. The location of the fight scene will be located the two purple outlined rooms on the left.

(The picture has now been corrected to show that either of the directions that the Seroccans will take to fight the Exchange. Remember, this part will be scripted - your video would show the aftermath [I]after[/] the Serocco veterans leave the ares marked "Start.")
