http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/...11024133033.htm

In a nutshell, the article says that children receiving physical punishment are more apt to lie and are better liars than children who are disciplined without physical force.

I was a compulsive liar as a child. For years, I've said that the only thing the physical punishment I received was make me a better liar. Now I have scientific proof.

Next time my Mom tells me all Dylan needs is a good smack, I hit her over the head with a 2x4 with the study glued to it.

That's just makes sense. If a child is going to get smacked for relatively minor things, he or she is going to learn quickly how to do whatever it takes to get out of those punishments.

This is one of those studies that makes me want to say, well, DUH!

I do have a caveat - I am more than a little disturbed by the obsession with lying as the only remaining sin in American culture.

One often hears the statement, "It's not that you did X, it's that you lied about it", where X can range from adultery, to stealing, to destroying property ... not yet murder, but it's only a matter of time.

Lying about doing something wrong is NOT worse than the act itself.

Moreover, it is not always better to tell the truth. Sometimes telling the truth is self-indulgent.

Well said LFE! I agree, this is another one of those stories that make you realize how much money is wasted on stupid studies.
