QUOTE (chavs @ Sep 6 2010, 12:06 AM)
Other days having a group hug and then reading 'I'll Love You Forever' by Robert Munsch , really helps.

You must have the British version, because the American one is the creepiest, most frightening and horrifying book I have ever had the misfortune of reading. Seriously, the mom is psychotic, sneaking into her adult son's house with a ladder. <shudder>

... off to floss and pluck my eyebrows...

It's one of our favorite books, too.

Sneaking around to make sure he wouldn't notice her hugging him represents what the mother wishes she could do, because clearly, the boy would not want to be rocked back and forth any more.

"The boy grew, and he grew, and he grew".

Yeah, ok, I'm tearing up

and no, I'm not driving over to Gush with a ladder.

I always tear up when I read it, especially at the end. Alas it has started though, when I read it to Mendele I am not 'allowed' to say 'my baby' so I changed it to my 'big boy' you'll be.
Do you know the story behind it? I made me cry, its so sad. I heard him read it (online) and when I read i I use his tune to sing the I'll love you forever to.

Totally off-topic, but while we're on the subject of children's books that make you cry...

I totally love Shel Silverstein's "The Giving Tree" - I have it in hebrew, and ds1 knows that every time I read it I just bawl! I am a ball of mush when I read that book (but i can't seem to cry over "real" life!)

Wow, this is quickly becoming the Books Zeph Thinks Represent Completely Dysfunctional Relationships thread. blink.gif

That one creeps me out, too. And yes, I know what's it's called in Hebrew, but that's not really Nedivut!
Now if the tree used a branch or two to smack that boy upside the head and tell him to get over himself, I might have enjoyed the book. bonk.gif (<-- pretty close emoticon, no?)

What's the next recommendation? We Have Always Lived in the Castle?

There I'm with you, Zephyr. No room to read that one as ironic or humorous exaggeration, it's JUST creepy
