Clearly neglecting my kids to be here this much Group: Members Posts: 1,636 Member No.: 146 Joined: 3-July 08 |
Grrr!
I just can't work with my kids around! Sometimes, when I have a deadline, the kids are home, and dh isn't, I just need to get some sewing time during the day. But, I keep making mistakes, some of which I can't fix, and it ends up frustrating me and also costing me (for every item I mess up that can't be fixed, that's another one that can't be sold but that I already paid for the materials). I really want this business to work - it is so much better for the family if I can run my own business and work from home. But, if it doesn't start to bring in some income soon, we're going to have to reassess, because there are school fees to pay, and next year we will have 3 in full-time school. Also, there's a limit to how much money I can pour into the business before I make a profit. I usually try to do the computer stuff and planning while I'm watching them, but I need to find a way to be able to sew while they're around, too. I've tried letting them play on the computer, but it doesn't last long, between fights and boredom. What works for you? |

Videos? Pay the older ones to entertain the younger ones?
I know what you mean about mistakes - I used to work for some time in the afternoons after ds would come home, and he'd watch Dora on my laptop while I worked. I was able to tune it out, but I would find many more mistakes than otherwise. |

If my hat thing starts to sell, I'm going to be facing this as well too. I think the truth is that you need to calculate into your costs childcare is part of the cost of production. Thats the only realistic way. And then you have to assess whether this will drive the price of your products up too high. I'm considering asking local kids, too young to babysit (so cheaper) to come entertain kids while I sew.
